We figured we wanted to do the laundry.  We drink more than wine, so I figured the beverage package was a wash.  And we have a new dog/house sitter so I wanted to be reachable.  Once we factored all of that in, the all-in made sense.

I do like having the drink package as I can try things I would not normally have and not feel guilty if I don't like it.

Yeah, we booked our 1.5 years out.  The cheapest date happened to coincide with our 15 year anniversary, so it was a no brainer.  Some of those prices on the flora though...  😳

Enjoy the Flora!  She looks amazing.  The cruise is really about the nature though.  We were more than happy with the Xpedition.  We looked at the smaller two as well, but decided that we wanted something slightly larger.  My wife said that was the only trip where she cried because it was over.

Hello all,

We head out on the Windstar Pride next Saturday from San Juan.  This is our first time cruising with Windstar.  However we have probably 15 cruises under our belt across many different lines and sizes of ships.  We also cruise out of SJ quite a bit on the Celebrity Summit.  We were also on the Celebrity Xpedition a year ago, which is even smaller than the Pride.

Some questions / clarifications:

• We have not received our electronic tickets yet, but I just hit up the TA for those.  But it does not sound like there is an issue if we don't get anything.  I will have a copy of our invoice with us.
• I am guessing we are sailing out of the Old Town pier given past cruise reports.
• We purchased the All-In Package
  • How does the laundry work?  We are actually pretty excited out this so we can pack lighter.
  • Where can you get alcoholic drinks?  Looks like Sky Bar and maybe Compass Rose?  Does the Yacht Club also serve drinks or just sandwiches?
  • Everything in the mini bar is included?  Can we make requests?
  • Is there a dollar limit on the drinks/cocktails?  Looks like the wine by the glass is included.
• Sounds like we need to make reservations at Candles the first night.  Is there any day that is different?  It appears that the menu is the same every night.
• Do we need to sign up for anything on the Sports Deck or is just first come first served?
• No set time for AmphorA?  Just show up.

We got it from our TA last night and we are sailing Feb 29th on the Star Pride.

I found a couple of travel agent's sites with some menus.  The above lines up with those lists.  I just find it odd that a luxury cruise line offers moderate brands.  Oh well, as I said before, that will certainly keep me satisfied.

And my cruise will be in Tahiti, not the Caribbean, so the drinking will be less of a factor.

Would it be wrong to bring my copy of "Cocktail Codex"?  😂

Yep!  That is why I was surprised about the Woodford comment since it is < $30.

It would be nice to see a list.  But our cruise is a year away, so I have plenty of time.  I understand if they don't offer Pappy's or JW Blue.  But Makers, Woodford, etc.  are all sub $40 if not sub $30.  I think I can pick up Laphroaig 10 for $29.95.

Is there a list that is published?  Woodford is a lower to mid range whiskey.  I wonder what types of whisk(e)ys they are offering.

The last thing we got from Regent was a full Sears catalog.  I had to hold on to it to show my wife.  😂

The two sparkling wines that are generally available under the premium package are:

• Chandon Brut - a decent California sparkler
• Montaudon Brut - a nice true champagne

We generally go for the Montaudon if it is available.

We have been on the Summit seven times, once after the edgification.  Overall, it is a lovely ship and we very much enjoy it.  Despite the refresh, she is older and is not going to have all of the items you find on the newer ships.  She is also smaller, so I think some of the specialty restaurants are not there, but we generally don't do them.

We are leaving on our first Windstar Cruise in a month and was kind of shocked at the prices the were charging for their excursions. We have been to many of these Caribbean islands before and even some of those same excursions (St. Martin America's Cup).  There was definitely some markup going on there.

It must depend on the ports...

I like the double oaked, but I tend to go for more flavor in my whiskeys.  I would prefer Knob Creek over the others if drinking neat.  But I have not seen any in quite some time on the ships.

Bourbon doesn't have to come from Kentucky.  However, the bulk of it does.

From wikipedia:

The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits state that bourbon made for U.S. consumption^[21] must be:

• Produced in the United States^[22]
• Made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn^[23]
• Aged in new, charred oak containers^[23]
• Distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume)^[23]
• Entered into the container for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume)^[23]
• Bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume)^[24]

Jack meets the standard bourbon. Jack is also qualifies as a legal variant of Tennessee whiskey (which is a whole other political mess).

If you are lucky you can get some mid tier bourbons.  I have seen:

• Woodford
• Woodford Double Oaked
• Wild Turkey 101
• Maker's Mark
• Jack Daniels
