    I just finished reading the Setting Sail Guide.

    On page 8, it suggests we pack an international adaptor.  Why?  Don't the outlets accommodate standard US 2-prong plugs?

    Formal nights -- my cruise will have 2.  How can I find out which nights are formal nights on my cruise so I can make restaurant reservations accordingly?

    The formal nights are indicated with a bow tie in the My Silversea activity planner. Here is an example (Tue 29 Jun) from the second Moon Greece cruise. On this cruise, there is only one formal night.

  2. Hello

    The modified Moon itinerary following the cancellation of Israel has created a bit of mess in the My Silversea excursion planner. On the second sea day and while in Rhodes, excursions are offered in Israel, and Agios Nikolaos shows excursions in Rhodes etc.

    When can we expect the excursions to be updated?

    Will excursions already booked automatically be transferred to the day according to the new itinerary, or do we need to rebook all excursions?

    Good morning,  I imagine the Israeli stops will be cancelled going forward for an undetermined amount of time.

     I have just been informed that Israel has been removed from our cruise departing on June 28th, and the itinerary is now very different.

    I was looking forward to visiting Israel for the first time, but staying safe is obviously the highest priority.

    The excursions still haven't been updated in My Silversea.

    Dear Esteemed Guest,

    We are contacting you with important information regarding your upcoming voyage aboard our beloved Silver Moon.

    Due to the escalating unrest in Israel and the region, we have cancelled your voyage’s calls in Ashdod and Haifa—as a precautionary measure, with your health and safety in mind, as well as that of our crew.

    We are pleased to inform you that we will instead call in the charming Greek destinations of Katapola (Amorgos), a gateway to the ancient city of Minoa, and Nafplion, regularly cited as one of Greece’s most romantic towns.

  4. According to the web site, the timing is as follows:

    “Included Shore Excursion Programme”

    On all voyages of Silver Muse., Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, Silver Spirit, Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow, a selection of shore excursions, will be offered on a complimentary basis (within the limit of one per guest/port/day), depending on availability and starting from this sailing date:

    Shadow > 24-May-22

    Whisper > 22-May-22

    Spirit > 31-Mar-22

    Muse > 19-May-22

    Moon > 30-Mar-22

    Dawn > 1-Apr-22

    • Thanks 1
  5. In this tour programme all the excursions start at 10 am (a few at 2pm) and last at least 4 hours (many up to 8 hours), so it is technically impossible to do more than one excursion per day.

  6. With regard to the upcoming Moon Greece cruises, only private car excursions come with a price tag (USD 400 -1,000). All other excursions are free. As shown below, people must pay if they want more than one excursion per day,  which wouldn't even be possible on the Moon Greece cruises due to the timing/duration of the excursions.

    This is what is mentioned in MySilversea:

    SHORE EXCURSIONS PROGRAMME

    On all Classic Cruises of Silver Muse, Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, Silver Spirit, Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow, selected shore excursions (one per guest/port/day), if available, will be offered on a complimentary basis.

    Shore excursions will be bookable at least 180 days prior to sailing, on “first-come-first-served” basis, although a pre-sale period will be dedicated to Venetian Society guests. Shore Excursions may require minimum participation levels to operate so it is recommended to sign up as early as possible. The deadline for booking Shore Excursions on MySilversea is 2 days prior departure date.

    The “Shore Excursions Programme” is subjected to shore excursions availability in each port and guests’ first choice may or may not be available. The first shore excursion booked in a single day/port, among the shore excursions bookable and available within the Programme, will be considered included, while additional ones will come at full fare. Shore Excursions Programme does not apply on the embarking and disembarking port.

    In case guests’ first choice in a single port is waitlisted, Silversea recommends guests to choose an alternative option, which will be considered confirmed should the first choice be confirmed as not unavailable. Guests will be notified about the status of the waitlisted tour and they will have the option to make their final choice on MySilversea about the tour they want to include in the programme.

    More excursions are available for purchase at full price. Capacity is limited on all shore excursions including shore excursions available in the Programme and guests’ first choice may or may not be available. Shore Excursions may require minimum participation levels to operate so it is recommended to sign up as early as possible. Silversea strongly advises booking shore excursions as soon as they are available, usually 180 days before the voyage departure date, to avoid disappointment. The deadline for booking Shore Excursions on MySilversea is 2 days prior departure date.

    Silversea reserves the right to cancel any excursions including free shore excursions. No credit or other compensation will be given if free shore excursions are unavailable, cancelled or not utilized. No shore excursions will be offered at the disembarkation port/day. All shore excursions including those offered on a complimentary basis are operated by independent operators over whom Silversea has no control. All advertised fares, savings, offers, programs and itineraries are correct at time of printing, are subject to availability and may change at any time. Other restrictions may apply.

    For Expedition voyages, shore activities are fully included as compulsory component of the product.

  7. Just booked the 10-day Moon cruise departing on June 28.

    Dinners, massages and excursions are booked, so ready to go 😃

    Excursions are included in the package. No excursions currently offered in Ashdod (Jerusalem), but I assume they haven't been finalised yet.

    Surprisingly, this 10-day cruise ended up being only marginally more expensive than our cancelled  7-day Moon cruise, which was supposed to depart on June 14.

    Next question: Dress "code". We have been to Greece in August--so hot! DH is not enamored of the more formal dress code on the Moon. We've only done Silversea Expeditions so not so formal. Can he get by with a sport coat and collared shirt? I just can't picture a suit and tie in the hot weather climate.

    The "rule book" is on the SS web site. On these 10-day cruises there will be 2 formal nights, 5 informal and 3 casual nights.

    You can escape the formal nights by dining in La Terrazza.

    Due to this silly dress code policy, we have so far chosen Regent over Silversea. However, we are so eager to start cruising again that we now happily will comply with SS dress code.

    Clothing Suggestions – Shipboard Attire

    Shipboard attire ranges from casual to formal. Casual wear is appropriate for daytime aboard ship or ashore and consists of standard sports outfits as worn at five-star resorts. Shoes should be flat or low heeled for deck activities. Evening attire falls into three categories: casual, informal and formal. On casual evenings, pants, blouses, skirts and casual dresses for ladies; open-neck shirts and slacks for gentlemen are appropriate. On informal evenings, ladies usually wear dresses or pantsuits; gentlemen wear jackets (tie optional). Appropriate formal evening wear for ladies is an evening gown or cocktail dress; gentlemen wear tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits. Tie is required.

    On formal nights, guests may dine in La Terrazza and choose to dress informal; dresses or pantsuits for ladies, jackets for gentlemen (tie optional). This option also applies to Seishin and Stars on board Silver Spirit. Dining at The Grill is optional casual
    all nights. Following dinner, all guests are free to take advantage of any or all public spaces, however, jacket is required. Sailings of 9 days or less typically feature 1 formal night, while longer voyages usually have 2-3 formal nights. Details will be provided in your final cruise documents, but the chart below provides a basic guideline to assist in packing the proper attire.

    Please note: On 7 day sailings in the Baltic, Mediterranean and
    Alaska, formal night is always optional; guests may choose to
    dress informal, a jacket is required for gentlemen.

    Evening Dress Code*
    Number of Cruise Days -> Formal -> Informal -> Casual
    4 -> 1 -> 2 -> 1
    5 -> 1 -> 3 -> 1
    6 -> 1 -> 3 -> 2
    7 -> 1 -> 3 -> 3
    8 -> 1 -> 4 -> 3
    9 -> 1 -> 5 -> 3
    10 -> 2 -> 5 -> 3
    11 -> 2 -> 6 -> 3
    12 -> 2 -> 6 -> 4
    13 -> 2 -> 7 -> 4
    14 -> 3 -> 7 -> 4
    15 -> 3 -> 8 -> 4
    16 -> 3 -> 8 -> 5

    Itinerary we're booking attached

    image001.png

    Do you happen to have the other dates as well? I initially thought  they would repeat this itinerary continuously throughout the summer. However, that doesn't really add up. If they start this 20-day itinerary on June 18, it would end on July 8, and then there are only 10 days left until July 18.

  10. We did three wonderful Ponant in August/September last year and opted for the €23 premium drink package on all cruises. Whether it is worth the money obviously depends on what and how much you drink. We appreciate a good gin & tonic, and are not keen on the Gordon's gin included in the standard package. The premium package will give you access to better brands such as Hendricks.

    During meals, the premium package makes no difference, but you get access to better wines and champagne served in the bars.

    There are also a number of premium cocktails priced at +/-€10, which you get for free with the premium package. However, premium cognacs are not included.

    We basically take the premium package for the convenience of being able to choose whatever we want without having to pay each time.

    Currently booked to go on Le Bougainville in the Seychelles on March 29 2020. Australian government has advised not to travel.  The Seychelles has closed its waters to ALL cruise ships as of 12 March . Ponant refuse to accept Le Bougainville is a cruise ship and say it is an Expedition Ship and will be leaving as scheduled  No communication from Ponant at all Bitterly disappointed in Ponant particularly as they seem to be looking after new bookings  Our cruise has been booked for 14 months and they have had a very large chunk of our money for a large part of that time Come on Ponant it is time to look after your loyal clients  now or when the cruise market returns as it surely will in the future your ships will be empty and floundering at sea  as they deserve

    We are booked on the same cruise, and we also find it unacceptable that Ponant doesn't offer some kind of flexibility. We live in Europe, where the situation constantly is getting worse, and we simply cannot take the risk of flying to the Seychelles and possibly not be able to return due to cancelled flights and/or closed borders. At the same time I find it very difficult to accept losing all that money.

    We do not necessarily want a refund, just the possibility to reschedule.

    This would be our first Ponant cruise, but I honestly don't think that we will book another Ponant cruise considering the way they treat their passengers.

    For those of us in the UK, there is a 2 part documentary on Channel 5 starting on 23rd August at 9pm:

    'The World's Most Expensive Cruise Ship'

    'New series taking a look on board the Seven Seas Explorer, revealing the secrets of the floating six-star hotel.'

    Don't know if has already shown in USA?

    Thanks a lot for this information. I have set our Sky box to record it, and I am looking very much forward to watching it.

    It seems to be a series of four episodes (1 hour each).

    I think I am tracking with you TC. An excursion in Bali before some really long flights might be uncomfortable. We haven't flown Air Emirates before but gotta think that their VIP lounge would be pretty nice.

    Bali is a wonderful place, but the airport lounges are not. Emirates use the Premier Lounge in Bali, which is not a place you would want to spend much time. The lounge is used by many airlines and is often crowded and too warm.
