  1. As you say Mrs W we younger children are more familiar with video as a tool. Actually when I was at art college the flying head editor we used to edit between 2 sources took up a whole room. I now have thousands of times the power in my MacBook :)

I think editing up a video whilst I board is quite a good pastime. Probably not on a short cruise of a week but on longer trips it fills in the time nicely and has the added benefit that if you are unhappy with any of the rushes you filmed it may be possible to re film them.

In many ways it's like painting only not as messy and you can put it down as and when you've had enough returning when you feel like it.

Even the kids still need to learn some basic skills which the iPhone doesn't teach. I saw plenty of video cameras capable of turning out good work when on Sojourn and even lots of guests with DSLR cameras more than able.

Just a though, part of the Seabourn Enrichment programme and something with a fairly broad appeal.

    Henry :)

In the classroom we use 3 cameras (for angles and shots) maybe its different down under but a key part of our English program is learning and understanding the role of angles , closeup, focus etc.to impart meaning in the text. This is done with 10/11 and 12 years olds

The kids then need to meld these together to come up with their film..

This is one of the many outlets they can then share their film at..

    I agree with your thoughts….

  2. True Cat.

The only face images were staff or if you knew someone on the cruise was wearing lime green snow pants.

Maybe its a generational thing but IME most apple generation can do a very similar job… photographic eye and iMovie. Kids in Aus have media studies as a compulsory component in primary (elementary) visual arts.

Yes there might be an option but realistically its the type of thing best done after the event.

The lecture on the Tome was really interesting and the process to get it to press also quite unique. leather for the cover is hand chosen from a particular equatorial goat due to the hair and the reject leather is sent to gucci!

All proceeds go to an Albatross foundation so Keoghs get nothing….

The Jnr Waldos weren't planning on doing the "show" it was just that many pax had asked and they had the skills to put it together… and yes they did help a lot of others with their editing and compilation.

I guess I'm really not being as clear as I'd like to be… SB was quite concerned about the kids helping others.. apparently quite a few of their cruisers go Gaga (get my drift) if they have anything posted that identifies them as being on SB ;)

  3. Ahhhh,

but SB has a policy of no passenger images to be posted

Miss and Master W did a 'story" from antarctica for pax (using submitted photos) etc but it was clearly stated that "NOTHING" was to be shared….

Pat and Rosemary Keogh did an awesome job capturing images and teaching photography

I'd loved to have shared the footage we have here, but an agreement, albeit verbal, needed to be adhered to

Plus there is the issue of using music which needs to have rights paid for….

  4. Just to update. The whole of the Exhibition and Conference Centre buildings on the east side of Darling Harbour (Cockle Bay) is being demolished and that area is now a dust bowl. The Harbourside shops remain though as does the National Maritime Museum and Pyrmont bridge. Western side is untouched, where the Aquarium etc is.

I think you have your East and West mixed up ;)

  5. She's lucky her laundry didn't wind up on Ebay.

I wouldn't have gone that far.

I'd have delivered it to guest services for her…

it would have been returned to her suite that way, all nice and washed and folded perfectly or on hangers,,,,

  6. Have not used the laundry room on board in a while( the free laundry is a nice loyalty perk) but I do remember once years ago when a few of us disgruntled ladies were hanging about the room (while our DH's were out on deck enjoying the sunshine) we used the house phone to call room service and had champagne delivered!

Sent from my iPad using Forums

    What no caviar

  7. Astonishing!

Laundry War spills over to Seabourn CC Forum!

The $50 bag is great value and even better when free thanks to the Seabourn Club Benefits. Only venture to the Laundry room to press the odd garment (even that can be fraught....). Do your smalls in the wash basin and hang to dry over the tub (or drape over balloons according to the Lady From Texas).

    hahaha June too true

I avoid the laundry like the plague but sometimes when things smell like guano you need to use the machine;) or sleep with the stench

  8. Agree with you Pop-I. Stick it in before dinner, take it out later or AM. Love fresh cleaned clothes every day. And I really don't like people touching our delicates.

Well if you leave them in the machine for an excess of time you can be sure I will put them in a basket if i need a machine and none are available…..:D

  9. Ahhh a whole new form of entertainment on SB

    Laundry Wars

    Poor Miss W

We braved the laundry and after 2 hours of a wet load at 6pm sitting in a drier no one returned. Assumption was that someone had picked it up from the washer and put in the the drier. Now Miss W would never turn the drier on for another person. What if she was to select the wrong cycle.

So after seeing the clothes sit for 2 hours in the drier she bravely placed them in a basket only to be given a dress down for touching someone else's laundry

Me i put someones Y front on for them 3 times….. only to be dressed down because I had removed the drier clothes and not left it as one load

So,,,,,,, moral is for gym clothes I throw them in the bottom of the shower and use the stomp machine and hang over the tub..

the rest goes in the bag…. 50+ item = bargain

  10. To stay on the reef you have the island option of Heron. It's a bit fiddly.

The other option is Lizard which is not a coral cay and VERY pricey.

Lady Elliot often also comes up in conversation but it is not as commercialised so trips are not as good and the snorkelling does have some issues.

My suggestion would be with 5 days to head to Port Douglas (north of cairns) and go out snorkelling with Wavelength

If you want to dive, look at Poseidon

  11. Apparently Seabourn listened to last year's clients that Puerto Chacabuco was not enjoyed as they have canceled this port and added an additional day in Antarctica. WOO HOO!!!

We are so excited to be sailing to Antarctica on Seabourn.

but only because we endured Chacabuco and our tour was cancelled. Seabourn could provide no alternatives so we effectively just wandered around in the cool and occasional drizzle.

Glad to see that took my (and obviously others) comments on board about it being a bad choice of port if tours were cancelled.

  12. Do NOT use a shuttle company in Sydney.

If unsure why read trip advisor and you'll soon see.

Depending on time of arrival (early am is particularly bad) etc the taxi may cost as much as $60 so don;t think you are being ripped off.

  13. MrsWaldo we did a cruise leaving Sydney 20th Feb to New Zealand and then back to Sydney a couple of years ago with another shipping company and had magic weather for the whole 2 weeks. Not a cloud in the sky. But we always bring the good weather with us :)

    Yes, I know you do!

(My reply was for the North of Aus)

Can't beat the West islands in Feb!

  14. Deb,

We are staying at Meriton Apts. on Kent. Hope we get a high floor with a view of the harbor.

    Barb

Not from there sorry. The rooms are Darling Harbour View, no Sydney harbour view. So OK for the Aussie day fireworks but you won't see either the bridge or opera house from them

  15. We had equivalent on Quest in January and the only time we could hear one another was when one person used a hairdryer.

I wouldn't choose the suite again because it may have been we had quiet neighbours.

It really would depend on what other choices i had though
