  1. We were on the Grand this month to Hawaii, and our friends noticed that the envelopes they were preparing for tips ( that they had placed under books, etc.,) had been gone through, and the cabin steward took his, even though it was buried under a lot of other papers.

Another friend noticed her clothing had been looked through.

  2. We just returned last Saturday from a BTB Hawaii then up the coast to Vancouver. We had a Caribe balcony , and the blue mats indeed had been replaced. We were very happy with our cruises, and if a person looked hard enough there is off course things that need updating, but we certainly were not bothered by it. The staff were fantastic, and we really enjoyed everything.

The only thing that seems to be a consistent critique is the lack of a central staircase above deck 7. We were fully prepared for this before the cruise, so it did not come as a surprise, so it did not really bother us. I would sail on her again without hesitation,

    Have a wonderful cruise :)

  3. can you tell me if there are robes on the grand ? we have a balcony

We were in the Grand last week, and had robes. We asked the cabin steward the first day and they were there the next morning ( they have a lot to wash on turnaround day )

They are quite skimpy , ( many folks find them useless) luckily they fit us just fine. We did the Ultimate Ship's Tour and we received lovely thick plush ones.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  4. I have severe food allergies, and in my cruise on the Grand ( just returned last weekend) the heads waiter would bring me the next days menus for lunch and dinner, and I would choose. That way, they would prepare the meals in a separate part of the kitchen to avoid cross contamination, and I had many more choices that way. We had trad. dining for dinner, but for lunch we would sit anywhere, let the waiter know my cabin number, and all was good.

  5. I am also so sorry you went through that experience. We were on the same cruise, and also the Hawaii one prior to that, and our group of 11 did not experience anything negative.

I did use the safe for valuables, but can certainly understand how people on holiday relax and could easily let their guard down.

What deck were you on? We were in a Caribe balcony.

  6. Hello secret castle, we met a few days ago at the CC M&G.

We too were in a Caribe premium balcony and our bed had some sort of mattress topper plus an egg crate topper. Don't remember asking for either. Felt really comfortable that first night but my hip got progressively sorer over this short four day cruise. Almost like the mattress was hard but sinking a bit in the middle of my side. DH can sleep on and through anything so no problem for him.

Wish they would have some consistency, even with same ships.

Welcome home!!! Hope your disembarkation went as smooth for you as ours did.

I think DH and I are lucky because we do not have any back problems so we can be comfortable almost anywhere :)

Did you see all the funny signs my friend put up on my cabin? The last night she put up a " for rent" sign:)

  7. Thank you for the positive report. We just booked two cabins on the Grand yesterday. I look forward to sailing aboard her to Alaska

You will have a wonderful cruise :) I truly believe a lot has to do with a positive attitude. We are a group of 11 and we have had a wonderful 3 weeks on the Grand. My only negative would be the passengers who are rude, but this has nothing to do with the Grand Princess or her staff.

We are just waiting here , ready to disembark soon.

    Cheers

  8. We are also on the Grand right now, and have been on since April 28th doing the Hawaii run first. There are safety inspectors from Bermuda aboard doing standard inspections so they have been testing things like emergency response, thrusters, etc.

We are just about to dock in Nanaimo.

I have spoken to many people who have done the coastal

segment in the past and it sounds like Astoria gets missed more

often. One man told me he has missed it 3 out of 3 times.

We have had a wonderful time on the Grand, the staff has been amazing, food has been great, etc.

They even enforced the dress code and sent a very rude and unkempt young man back to his cabin to change when he showed up in inappropriate attire for the dining room.

Enjoy the Grand, we sure have!!!!!!

  9. We loved our Feb cruise on the Grand- I will say we were surprised at how "creaky" it was in the bigger waves- not a complaint (we actually kind of enjoyed the "soundtrack") just not something we had experienced before!

Yes, we experienced that a couple of nights ago, was a bit rough on the night before we came in to Ensenada. We will be in SF tomorrow, and if am lucky to be staying on for 4 more nights to Vancouver.

    :D

Everything and everyone has been wonderful so far!!

  10. Yep, that is exactly what my closet looks like :) caribe balcony, new mats, great cabin. I did bring about a dozen wire hangers and this helps to save space in the closet rather than asking for more wooden ones.

Honolulu was lovely we did the dolphin encounter, then Ala Moana, Waikiki beach, ultimate deck party, etc. tomorrow is Kauai and we are renting a car there.

( Sasha's mom - we were we you on the 2007 panama cruise, what a great group we had!)

    Cheers!

  11. I have not seen any leaks or water dripping, and the only thing that I noticed that took a bit of a shuffle is that the closet is very small. I knew this in advance thanks to the folks here, so I picked up some "ebags" and use them on the shelves to keep everything organized.

The staff is wonderful food is great, entertainment is top notch, my biggest problems are deciding what to order from the menu, and what activity to pick.

Aloha! ( we are just pulling into Honolulu Harbour right now )

  12. I am not getting much chance to be online ( way too busy) but wanted to check in and say that we are on the Grand to Hawaii right now and everything is wonderful. There always seems to be comments going around about wear and tear, etc., but we are not noticing that at all, and are having great food and service everywhere!

    Aloha

  13. We are doing a Pacific coastal cruise this fall and I am researching excursions. It's our first time with Princess so maybe they operate differently from other lines (?). When I click on excursions it only shows things for Vancouver and Victoria. I can find things to do at the other ports, but I wanted to see what might be offered through the ship. Nothing? No wine tours or city tours of San Franciso or LA or anything? Am I looking too early? Perhaps some experienced Princess cruisers can advise me here.

    Thanks!:)

For our coastal it was about 3 months later that they released the excursions for one of the ports. Keep checking, and when it is closer to the cruise time they will probably have them up on the site :)

  14. I am wondering if Princess will allow a small group to borrow space I. The wedding chapel or? for short periods of time when it is not booked for anything else. I direct a small choir and I am traveling with some of my members, and if possible we would like to rehearse a few numbers once or twice. We will be performing the day after the cruise ends and are hoping to get in some practice.

    Thank you :)
