  1. I have read lots of positive reviews on cave tubingin Belize but we were extremely bored. We were in a group of 8 linked together by legs under armpits and the guide pulled us through the water. We expected a current. Maybe it was the time of the year but the water was totally flat.

There are AI resorts in Roatan that loos like fun and good deals. I have heard mixed reviews about some of the cozumel ones. If you are considering doing and AI anywhere,,it is helpful to see what other ships are in port because if there are a lot you can count on it being overcrowded. They say they control the number, but their definition of too many is probably different than ours.

Depending on whether you like to drink or that scene, there are some pretty fun bars in Cozumel and your 17yo would have no trouble getting in.

Zip lining is fun if you have never done it. The one in Belize is fine. Not horrible, not great. Not sure about any of the others in those stops.

  2. If it's a 7 day cruise, typically the formal nights will be the second night and the second to last night. Unless there is a holiday then that is usually a formal night. If it is a late night in a particular port, they may move the formal night to another night.

  3. My son is allergic to nuts and shellfish. In my experience on any ships and most recently the Liberty, it's hit or miss in all dining rooms. THe MDR is better, but we still had to remind our waiters and ask questions on certain dishes.

It is harder in other dining venues because sometimes they don't speak English and I am never sure whether they understand the question

  4. My son and I went diving in Princess Cays in late December. Here are my thoughts:

    1. It was COLD! Too cold for my son and I both, and he rarely gets cold. We were wearing shorties but both had toes go numb because it was so cold.

    2. The dive boat was small, crowded, and we had to drop off and pick up the people from the deep sea fishing excursion on the way to and from the dive site.

    3. The boat ride was about 25 minutes along the shoreline to the dive site to the "hole" which was salt water and fresh water mixing according to the divemaster. The hole itself was too deep to see the bottom, and maybe 6 feet wide.

    4. We did not see many fish larger than a foot long - mostly smaller fish and coral and seaweed.

    5. There was "miscommunication" according to the divemaster regarding the BCD and wetsuit and tank sizes onboard. My 12-year-old son and I both had all three items mentioned above too big for us because they did not have any tanks but full size, and I think only 2 small BCDs, no extra-smalls, and the shorties were loose fitting in the legs so they didn't help as much as good fitting ones. In their defense, it was the 2nd day of the cruise, but we did fill out our required paperwork by dinner with this information and you would think they would have smaller sizes anyway.

    6. There was one divemaster only who dove with our group of 9. He was very patient with my son who for the first time ever had trouble with his ears.

    7. It was about 40 minutes of diving.

    8. The internet said it was $160, but for whatever reason we were charged $110. Still a lot for a single tank dive.

Conclusion: I would not recommend this dive. There are so many better, more reasonable dives.

  5. Disposable cups for mixing drinks in rooms and leaving on-deck when you are done. Clear ones work best since they are not so obvious....

Of course, you have to smuggle drinks on board, which we do one of two ways... 1 - plastic bottles wrapped and stuck in our suitcase that the porters take and hope immigration does not find them. or 2 - disguse them in bottles with liquids of similar colors (barcardi-water bottles, whiskey - apple juice bottles), etc.

We also bring several 12-packs of soda in a carry-on and snacks. Partly because we are cheap, and partly because diet coke on board tastes different.
