One of the things I like to do when I'm researching is to look for festivals in the places we would visit.  I found one for Aomori, Japan.  We would be there on April 29, 2024.  The Cherry Blossom festival there runs every year between  April 23rd and May 5th.

    Hirosaki Sakura Matsuri
    Where: Hirosaki Park, Aomori Prefecture
Summary: Cherry Blossom Festival featuring 2,600 cherry trees on the grounds of Hirosaki Castle and along the castle's moat in Hirosaki Park.

"Near the end of April every year Aomori Prefecture becomes pink with the blossoms of cherry trees. As one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites and one of Japan’s Top 100 Sights of People and Nature, the cherry blossoms at Hirosaki Park are famed as one of the best cherry blossom sights in Japan. Hirosaki Park is a home to 2600 trees with over 50 different types of cherry including Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, Shidarezakura (Weeping Cherry), and Yaezakura (Double Layer Cherry). Over 2,000,000 visitors visit the park during the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, which is held annually between April 23rd and May 5th.

Starting with the Sakura Tunnel (cherry blossom tunnel) on the west moat, the cherry blossoms of Hirosaki Park enchant visitors with a variety of displays throughout the viewing season. Visitors can paddle a small boat to view blossoms reflecting off the moat, come at night to see the trees illuminated, or see the grounds carpeted in falling blossoms. "

Today the ship excursion options appeared for San Francisco.   One of the included excursions is a combo of Alcatraz and Sausalito.  It's a 5 hour tour beginning at 10:00 am with a walk to Pier 33, the ferry to Alcatraz for a self-guided look-see, ferry back to San Francisco, bus to Sausalito,  bus back to the ship.  We booked it thus ticking two boxes from @Deckhawk's wonderful list.  Only fly in the ointment might be the return time to the ship.  The pre-cruise gala dinner for the World Cruise part of our adventure will be held that evening.   We are hoping to attend.   We will need to arrange something with Reception prior.   And if we would need to leave the ship before the return time for the excursion we will just do Sausalito on our own and cancel the excursion booking.  All good!

Hi. Where did u see the S.F. tours. None I could find on Jan15, 2024. Thx.

An email from Barbara Muckermann arrived just now announcing that from March 1st all guests travelling on a Silversea Cruise will require a booster COVID shot.

Once again she trots out all the so called scientific background that constitutes their Healthy Cruising, but says nothing about the multiple Omicron outbreaks, onboard quarantine and ejections for land based quarantine that have occurring in the last few weeks.

Having a great time on Silver Whisper, stop complaining.

All is good aboard the Whisper.  About 220 guests onboard for this leg.  Capt is relatively new to SS.  HD is Jimmy Kovel & CD is Adam Wright.  MDR Maitre’d is Ricardo Gonzalez.  Tender beef Rossini with seared foie gras for last night’s formal dinner.  It was excellent.  First night main course was Mahi Mahi.   It was very good.  The MDR was pretty sparse last night as most folks must have opted for the Grill or La Terrazza.  Many familiar crew faces on board and we ran into Norman during checkin.  The starboard section  of deck 4 (suites 421 thru 435) has been partioned off for quarantine rooms.  About 225 guests are currently booked for the full WC.

Ratko Jeremic is the executive chef and he is onboard for the WC.

Hi, how did you find out about the number of passengers on full WC?

Anyone else see the notice from Barbara M (Silversea) about delaying the final cruise payment for WC2022?

FOR OUR GUESTS ON WORLD CRUISE 2022:
I just wanted to let you know that we are monitoring very carefully the news on the Omicron variant.
Still we remain fully committed to operate the WC 2022!
The team is working on the following:
    1. You will receive an email notifying you of an extension of the imminent final payment deadline
    2. The itinerary team is working on a plan C (guess it is C but lost count) skipping South Africa
    3. As soon as we have 2 you will receive a proposal to stay on the (third) version of the WC 2022
Hope this helps, please bear with us for a couple of days to work on the above (among everything else).
Happy sunday to all of you!
