  1. And I am and I did. RCL is the first Ive seen with a 9 day Norwegian Fjords and I did feel I needed to jump on it. Now I can take a breath and continue with my search to see if I find other possibilities. However I’ve heard nice things about RCL and would like to try them although I don’t want a mega ship with 3K+ pax.

  2. This is what the breakdown looks like. As someone else said it’s really not a sale. It’s a marketing ploy to advertise and create a sense of urgency to book a cruise. By advertising in this format they can raise or lower the price at any point and as long as they offer one guest the 50% off rate they can call it a sale. I base my decision on how much I am willing to pay per day. PS I can't figure out how they come up with a Bogo savings of $1278. Must be that new common core math.

Yeah, that’s what I expected to see with my attempted booking last night. When you say 50% off there is an expectation that the customer will see an actual reduction in the price.

    I’ll keep trying.

  3. Check SBP Tours and Alla Tours.

A lot of people take their evening excursions to the ballet or concerts.

I did that on my first evening in StP but I purchased my tickets directly from the Mariinski Theatre Box Office and the CD arranged for a taxi to and from. We were on a river cruise and had three days there though. It was AMAZING if that interests you.

And, those two tour groups may have other types of tours other than theatres.

  4. I took the booking all the way to putting in my CC# to pay the deposit. I should see the discount broken out on the second passenger page.

I think I’m going to have to break down and do it the old fashioned way and call RCL. I’m just one of those people that hates making phone calls

Or maybe I’ll call a TA.

If this cruise sold out in one day, strictly because of Oprah/Gayle, these pax will be celebrity seekers, they are not HALs base.

The overwhelming majority will never return to HAL because they’re more the Carnival audience.

“This cruise sounds amazing!” Who said that? Sounds like a nightmare to me.

  6. This is call CruiseCritic for a reason, people come here to point out everything wrong with Cruises, otherwise it would be called CruiseCompliment!

I certainly hope that you made this point using the SARCASM font.

  7. Are excursions part of onboard spending? If so I bet that $50 per port is encouraging more people to book excursions directly with NCL. On my last cruise I met two different couples who said they were using NCL only because of that credit. That made me giggle as their excursions are often so over priced that even with the credit you are paying more. I know that there are other advantages of using NCL for excursions but doing so only to not "lose" $50 credit was funny to me.

Not necessarily. On a recent cruise I did 5 NCL excursions. Three were HOHOs that were payable entirely by the $50 pppd credit. The harbour cruise in Cabo was $39, again covered in full by my $50 credit.

My DIY in Victoria to Butchart Gardens was going to run me $50 taxi and $25 admission. Then at the last minute NCL added a 4.5 hr excursion to the Gardens for $129. Take off my $50 credit and add the extra of a guided bus tour, and once again I was breaking even.

Yeah, I giggled too over getting my 5 excursions for $79 total.

You can’t just assume you can’t get a deal using the NCL excursion credit because you can make out very well.

  8. First cruise. A few terminal hiccups.

We are Platinum Plus, so I know what you’re asking. I did not see where the priority boarding seating was. I looked. I didn’t see the banner-up. There was a single priority entrance to the checkin line. And we were in line when we heard them call Group 1 at 10:45. I did not hear them call priority boarding, but that is sometimes done with an escort from the waiting area.

After checkin, we waited in the boarding line and the agent asked for our Group card. I showed her my key and said that we were Platinum members and could board at any time. She looked at us like we had two heads and got upset. She said she never heard of platinum status. We just kept walking.

Checkin ran out of boarding group cards, so the late comers were all swarming the boarding line before the early arrivers. There are 4700 passengers on this cruise (vs 4000 capacity).

They ran out of cards on opening day of the cruise season in Seattle. That was on April 19th for Sun’s repo to Canaveral and there were only 1768 passengers.

    Boarding took hours. And hours.

I’m kind of gobsmacked that the Port of Seattle and NCL haven’t resolved this yet.
