  1. No signs of construction so far, guest services says no plans to until dry dock

Hopefully there will be no wet dock for you. It’s hard to imagine who at NCL thought that was a good idea for the Sun, and hopefully that “Lesson Learned” has been really learned and that judgement in error will not occur again.

  2. I’m subscribing. Im interested in this planning journey. I’m looking for post retirement but unfortunately am needing to delay till age 70 so earliest is 1/1/21. Although I think 2022 might give me the time I need to prepare.

I think I’d prefer an eastbound from the US east coast, but those seem to be rare. I’d like to do the Cape and the Suez. I’d rather see a few ports in Japan, China and Korea vs French Polynesia. I want Aus and NZ. Don’t mind skipping the Caribbean but would love to do some of SA and the Horn. Mustn’t overlook those penguins in Antarctica. I know I won’t get it all but I can dream.

As a solo traveler I think Im leaning towards Cunard with their single stateroom option.

The thought of paying a 100% supplement gives me anxiety.

If I could find a like minded solo traveler I’d be willing to share accommodations. Well I would think about it, anyway.

Looking forward to “talking “ with y’all during this journey. I’m busy reading all the WC blogs I can find right now.

  3. While I agree with you the current system is wrong and we as guest should remove and tip as we see fit to do. No one has the right to tell me how and where to spend discretionary funds.

But, I would ask you not to be to hard on the other side (Pro Auto Gratuities) as they have fallen victim to the PR of the cruise industry. It is never right to blame a victim, gets because these poor fellow cruise guests have fallen for this con shell game from management because they are victims.

We cannot and should not attack them or post negative towards them, for a couple of reasons: no personal attacks allowed on the site, and they are victims of a system designed to exploit these poor uninformed guests. Attacking them is wrong, feeling sorry for them is human.

I just threw up in my mouth.

  4. Just saw on one of the Star roll calls that ncl assures the passenger there would be no construction on the TA cruise before dry dock but did admit they would do “wet dock” on the PC cruise departing tomorrow (we are on it), surely they will not be repeating this debacle?

  5. China is a HUGE market and the Chinese middle class is thirsty for travel and adventures. They are swarming Europe and have replaced the Ugly Americans as the most annoying tourists. Regardless, if you’re the CEO of a cruise line and you’re not reaching out to the Chinese market, you’re derelict in your job.

  6. Enjoying this already and looking forward to the rest of your week.

So sorry about your Good Friday drive. Exactly the same as mine on Good Friday in 2016. The only thing you could do differently another time is leave TN at 1 am.

I’ll wait patiently to hear about your drive back last Saturday. Hope it was a little better, but if I had to wager, it was as bad or worse?!!

  7. Yet again you support NCL can you come out and declare your interest in the company. And as of last night it share price is down 2.17% on the day a huge daily loss

The share price if you research it has fallen over the last three months and it is trending downwards.

Had you wished to make an informed comment for once rather than simply refusing to hear anything bad about your NCL you would have seen the recent sell off by the board and Apollo of their shares. For once try and be unbiased.

Anyway if it was only 100 people why have NCL given a 100% credit to all people on that cruise.

Sorry mate but this time NCL have got it wrong big time and the shares are affected. As a fund manager I would be watching very carefully the results over the next twelve months as they are getting bad press and lower yields.

    Just a tad over-dramatic, don’t you think.

  8. I think ....

The OBC will be refundable ....

I am still waiting to have confirmation from someone who actually paid for the shorex before cruising and had the $50 credited to their account that the excess was actually refundable. Not had that done so far.

Why would someone pay for the shore excursion before cruising? There’s always the chance the port it the excursion may be cancelled. Then you are dealing with a refund.

I’ve never heard anyone advise to prepay the shore excursions.

  9. [quote name=

Recently' date=' something similar happened when a couple put their docs in checked luggage. After the story broke, NCL stood it's ground. Then the PR got even worse. So what does NCL do? They not only gave the couple a refund but also a free cruise. Simply giving a free cruise after the first article could have snuffed out the damage and NCL could have kept the refund money. Why is Del Rio paid more than the CEO of Carnival and RCL? Stupid Board

  10. Guess it's the perception of the reader, SPB is the jewel stop for us, it's what convinced me, all though the other ports are welcoming as well, I guess my second favorite would be the train into Berlin. If I find SPB to be what I expected I know I will never see everything I want too in two days, so a land trip would be on my horizon.

I will check out that ferry if I decide to go again, thanks for the tip!!

I think you will love Tallinn. It was a very pleasant surprise. Totally charming.

  11. This is a very nice gesture and I understand you want guest to give you guys a second chance. However, this is no longer may be fixable this way. It's a little too late the damage has been done. Guest are ready to file lawsuits. Sorry :(

I doubt that very much. And I think the NCL brand will survive. It’s not like the stock plummeted. Stock today closed 5/8 pt down from a month ago on 3/5.

  12. From Charlotte, i make the Jax port in 5.5 hrs, door to door....To get to Charleston, it takes me about 4 hrs....Ergo, 90 more minutes for me coming down I95....that is without the wings extended ;p

Calling you out on that one.

But in all seriousness, we are BEGGING you to keep on traveling down 95. The citizens of the state do not need or want another 7000-8000 tourists here on embarkation/disembarkation days. We’re saturated with them already. Thank goodness we’ll never see mega ships here. That’s what they drained Florida for!!! [emoji78]
