  1. Radiance of the Seas, October 19, 2009, 5 night Mexican sailing has some great single rates on balcony cabins.

RoyalCaribbean.com has the following for a single E-2 Balcony cabin:

    Price Breakdown Guest 1 :

    Cruise Fare$549.50 USD

    Taxes/Fees$59.74 USD

    Package Total$609.24 USD

Crown & Anchor Platinum and Diamond/Diamond Plus discounts can reduce fare by $50 or $100 respectively.

    Happy Sailing :)

Hi Jack! :D How are you?! I see from your sig you've been busy. Lucky you!

WOW! Just checked; just so I could drool LOL! Knew I couldn't afford a cruise this fall (first time I've only done one cruise/year since first for 50th bday)... but those bills have a way of catching up. Glad it was the TA in April :)

So I'm Vegas bound w/friend I met on one of the singles cruises back in '04 week of Labor Day. $150 for 5 days for room; air miles for one way a/f and $99 back home - at least that fits in my budget for now!

Have a great time! Wish I was there!

  2. Response to both "Pats"...

Checked the Conquest. Due to airfare and transportation cost to port, cruising out of Galveston is more expensive for me than out of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. I've learned cruising out of "Port Canaveral" is more expensive too cuz of the transport $ from Orlando.

Keep up the good work informing us of good prices tho :D

  3. **bleep** Can't name specific websites - CC "no-no."

That said, I like that website, but their 'Singles Discounts' cruises tend to be pretty limited, have a lot of high-end and long cruises; whereas sometimes sale prices on other lines make the 150-200% cruises a better deal. (Keep in mind you at least don't have to pay the port charges for a second person; saves a little $).

badlknee is right on about the Carnival 1A's - they can be really dirt cheap! Also, look for cruises less than 90 days out, "off-season" and (often) repositioning cruises.

Personally I have always found my best deals here :).. so be sure to share if you find something decent...... and HAPPY SOLO CRUISING!

  4. I just came back from Alaska on Radiance OTS and it was wonderful. Check Frontier Airlines for good rates. I think they fly from Midway and they have different levels of service, depending on whether you want the basic flight or a package that includes DirecTV and your baggage fee. It was the cheapest I could find, and they seem to have specials on their website that don't make it to Kayak.

    Liz

Thanks Liz! I've never even checked out Frontier; I will now! Glad you had a great time!

  5. Well, compared to the usual 200% single supplement it's a good deal ;-). I don't know, to me, paying well under $150 per day for my own outside cabin doesn't seem so bad. Traveling solo I find it's hard to get under $100 per night all in, especially if you prefer an outside, has your experience been different?

Hi NW! congrats on your cruise -- if you're happy with it, that's what's important!

I've seen some great prices on Alaska cruises, but flight from Chicago make it almost double! Since your cuise is in the summer and you're in the NW that may be a great deal. My budget restricts me to non-summer and non-holidays.

    Have a great time!

    Nancy

  6. ...

BTW, I continue to seek my dream: 10 day cruise, balcony, single, under $1000. Am I dreaming ... or having a nightmare?

Hi! Wanted to give you hope: I just did an 11-day TA (Miami-Dover) in a single balcony for $950 on NCL Jewel. I also paid under $600 for an OCV for 9-day Barcelona-NY on NCL Gem 1-1/2 years ago.

Since you've been on CC for a long time, I'm sure you know this, but repos and TA's have the best deals. Also off-season cruises and those with less port stops are cheaper; and prices lower after final payment. After you book, make sure you keep checking $$ for your cruise; you can often get upgrade and/or obc.

It looks like you cruise Holland often; it's my understanding they're pretty good $ for singles.

Even if you already know this, it may be helpful for those solos that are new to CC.

    Happy cruising!

  7. Hello - also from Chicago (well, Barrington) and cruise FREQUENTLY. Just got back from Asia (solo) and will be cruising again from 07/18 to 08/12 Canada/New English/Greenland/Iceland/Scotland/England and back to Chicago through Amsterdam. Got a good deal as far as good deals go for month long cruises! (I'm in education)

Welcome! Another solo Chicago cruiser here! I still work, so vaca time is limited, as are funds - but there ARE deals out there for solos like us! This thread is amazing!

    Nancy

P.S. I did a repo NYC to NOLO on Spirit in October -- I LOVED the Spirit; but then I prefer smaller cruiseships.

  8. Nancy,

I upgraded from a 1A cabin that had two port holes. It's the only cabin type on Carnival that doesn't have the 200% single supplement, it's only about 150%. So it's not considered an oceanview however it is, it's actually considered an inside cabin. I know it sounds weird but what can you say. Anyway the 7 day cruise for the 1A which was on the Main deck was costing 805.07 (748.50 cruise + 56.57 taxes/fees) and the balcony (8F) that I upgraded to is on the Spa deck cost $1,154.57 (1,098.00 cruise + 56.57 taxes/fees). So it cost about $350 more for the upgrade. These prices were my total costs of the cruise as a solo/single cruiser.

Thanks. I hope that you enjoy your trans-atlantic cruise and have a great time! I went on one last year and it was beautiful. I know what you mean about the travel costs, they can be killers. Where's your final destination? Italy?

    -Mark

I love TA's and repos! Great deal on raising the ranks from a 1A to balcony!

We end up in Dover, England; which I didn't realize was SO FAR from London (an expensive thing I overlooked, as it costs around $200US (for single) to transport to London ). Luckily I found CC mates to share transit with sightseeing for approx $90 pp :)

  9. In case any of you are interested in a good price for a Balcony, I just upgraded to a Balcony on the 7-day Carnival Truimph 4/12 sailing out of Miami to San Jaun, St. Thomas & St.Martin. The total cost with the single supplement was $1,154 (1098.00 cruise + 56.57 tax/fees). Obviously it doesn't compare in price to a 1A cabin but it seems to be the best price that I've noticed for a balcony. Not that I look that often. lol-Mark

Congrats Mark! Were you upgraded from OCV? Was it a guarantee? I've noticed GTY's get many more upgrades than those that select a specific cabin.

Have a wonderful cruise! I'm leaving out of MIA on the 4/17 :) (on 11-day TA for slightly less solo balcony on NCL (no upgrade) ---- but  don't ask about flight home and tranfers around Europe :p - they truly add to the cruise price; in addition to time off work..... but YIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE!)

Just realized you chose to upgrade. Mind sharing cost for upgrading and from what cabin type?

  10. Hi Marianne! I'm from Chicago (city) too and travel solo. While I love cruising, I'm poor and look only for deals. I love sea days so repos and TAs are perfect for me!

I do have some tactics to getting good deals. We'll keep in touch. (FYI - my own cabin in a necessity for me.)

You're traveling on my favorite ship - the Spirit - in the fall. Wonderful, older, smaller ship. If in the future we both want to go on cruise out of NOLO, we could drive and save airfare. there's also Amtrak, which I took home in October (to see if I'd like it -- I'd definitely do it again!).

    Keep in touch!

    Nancy

  11. Yes, Italy and Germany. I went on my cruise with "Babie" with 3 days prior to the cruise in Rome (fantastic) and then 11-days to Med, which was good, but would never do it again on Costa. Spirit spoiled me. I love that ship and everything about it.

OMG! How'd I forget your cruise with Babie . My 2nd cruise was on Costa (carrib). I was just getting my feet wet; I couldn't put my finger on it, but I didnt much like Costa either. How'd the shared cabin work for you? (feel free to email me).

... I too LOVED the Spirit. I also really enjoyed NCL's Empress. apparently I like smaller, older ships!

Happy (early) St. PAT's day :p

    Nancy

  12. Whohoo Nancy! Glad you're getting to go cruising. Have a ball. Keep in touch! Leaving for Italy and Germany on 4/2 for 8 days with hubby. Don't want to go back, but have no choice.

HI PAT! Great to hear from you. Yea, I bit the bullet - you know how I love sea days!

Glad your trip is right around the corner! You 'don't want to go back'? To Italy & Germany? I'm the opposite... 'don't want to come back!' :p

    Nancy

  13. NCL Jewel 11 nt transatlantic (Miami-Dover) has balcony singles going for $884. I think the double rate is $649. There are no standard insides or outsides available but this is pretty cheap. Only thing is that it makes just 2 stops (Ponta Delgada and Vigo) but if I could take the time off I'd grab this.

Approx $950 for solo BA........ I know - I'm going :D. There are even OCB's!

Our CC group has a number of group activities planned, which makes it more pleasant (for me) as a solo cruiser. Over 50 people for the M&G. Grab-bag, cabin crawl, Murder Mystery (organized by fellow cruiser, not NCL), etc.

    Come join us!

  14. Just catching up on things. That transatlantic looks like a great deal and I'm going to think about it. Right now $1100 for a balcony...not bad at all! Hope everyone here is doing well.

Hey GF, let me know what you decide! I've got the itch to book this big-time. But finding a flight home without spending a night in England is causing me some problems and I can only miss so many days from work.

It'd be great to cruise w/you and Jack again!

    Nancy
