  1. I booked this cabin on Tuesday. RCCL Vision of the Seas 7 night Southern Caribbean cruise for February 15-22, 2009. $523 including all taxes for a single Large Oceanview Stateroom. This cruise goes out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic which cost me $517.30 airfare from Nashville, TN. Ports are Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, and Guadaloupe. I thought this was a great price for a single oceanview cabin. :)

Thanks for including the airfare cuz that's (obviously) a big expense on repo/TA. Great deal; thanks for sharing; have a wonderful time!

  2. Hey you two!

My radar says that this is a fantastic deal that you can't beat if you shop around a bit. I'm getting really close to biting the bullet on this. :) Isn't this as good as the December 2008, Norwegian Gem inside rate? Oh, I've got a FreeStyle Cruise Credit for the deposit and want to check on the union discount too.

Jack - you got a balcony for $620 on the Gem:). I got ocv for under $500. But that's probably as good as it gets!

Hey! Where's Dallas on this topic?

I have a $250 deposit on NCL.......... it's just sitting there  waiting for me to use it!

  3. Hey Jack! I've been looking at this cruise too! so has Pat in PA. It really is a good deal! Would be great to do another TA with you! Unfortunately it's 2 weeks off work and I can't book anything $ just yet.

Maybe they'll come up with even better like on the Gem  - that I can't refuse :p.

Let me know if you book! Have a great time on the Mariner -- you dawg!

  4. Yep, you'll find me in the bar watching the storm ;)! I saw the scarry pix (they were scarry!) from a TA 2-3 years ago (could've been the QM2) and I was somewhat disappointed we had such a smooth TA crossing :p.

I've been on a few cruises where the white bags were placed around the ship, but (knock on wood) I was good!

Would love to do another TA! I love all those sea days!

  5. Ya know, I love cruising so much I've cut many things out of my life and only book the CHEAPESt cruises I can find...... but I'm an only child and I ..just.. can't .. share a cabin. Even when I've traveled with single friends we have our own cabins - or rooms (in Vegas).

I've definitely given it serious thought, but you go on 1, maybe 2 cruises or vacations/yr. It's doesn't seem to be the time to 'test' that sharing a cabin 'might' work; even with someone you enjoyed cruising with in the past.

    Just my 2 cents :shrug!

  6. You're right about the NCL no single supplement fares: the Oct 28 NY - Miami 12 day repo dropped as low as $799 with 0% supplement for a balcony cabin. I got in a little higher, but am definitely keeping my eyes open for similar bargains.

Agreed! I got a great deal on a balcony on NCL Spirit 13-day repo NY to New Orleans in October (08).

Is that for the '09 cruise? I've got cruise buddies on that one.... (Pat, you wanna rebook?) :p

  7. That does look like a great deal Nancy

Too bad for me it isnt for solos

I would love to see Spain, Italy and France

It is always so hard to get roommates

    to share

    Maybe someday ....

You never know, it could turn into a great deal for solos....

Right Jack?! That'd be so cool if we could do this TA together too! If I could keep my feet on dry ground til then I could do it up right (a bit pricey to visit those ports!) ... I just can't see not cruising til next November :confused:.

On the NCL Gem 9-day TA last year Jack got a solo balcony for about $630? and I got a solo OCV for under $500.

When did that deal show up, Jack? around September?

    HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

(p.s. Great to hear from you Jack!)

  8. I keep looking at the following cruise. It's probably currently 200% for solo, but check w/ your TA. I flew to Barcelona via Aer Lingus (via Dublin)and it was $300, so airfare is affordable.

NCL currently has an OBC special.

I did the Gem TA last December and it was one of my best cruises. Make sure to check out the Roll Call if you book!

  9. So glad you're thinking of me :p. I keep checking the prices, but still too $$ for me.... and I hate that NCL doesn't offer any kind of ocb if the price goes down. I've thought about booking an inside  and hoping to upgrade for free/cheap, but??

How was your Thanksgiving? Better hurry up and get to chicago and visit the radio station(s) - another one bites the dust: Steve Dahl was let go Friday (I KNOW you remember him from the 70's [different station -- the LUP?!!). So far everyone at US99 is still there, but you never know!

    Great to hear from you!

  10. Hi Love2Cruise! Your new signature works :). Definitely looks like you need a cruise! Your dream cruise is a rare possibility! But last December my friend got a balcony on NCL Gem 9-day Transatlantic for $616! Balconies weren't availble when I finally booked, but I got an OCV for under $500. That's the best deal I've EVER seen for a solo! Keep looking (and reading this board!) You can usually get good deals on Repositioning and Transatlantic cruises.

BTW if we find a deal like that, I'm going too :D!

  11. Nancy I want to thank you on how to subscribe to this thread. When ever I think of it I check in.

I have started cruising again, and went with a friend last year, and then by my self this spring. I really like having the cabin to my self. I don't have to share.

Keep the bargains comintg. thanks to all who have posted.

You're so welcome! It really helps me to get an email when there's a new post.

I go for the deals, but I HAVE to have my own cabin! It certainly would be cheaper with a roommate. I've considered sharing (with people I really enjoyed on a previous cruise); but I'd rather they have their own cabin next door :p.

I agree! Keep those single deals coming! There will probably be some good last minutes ones in Jan/Feb, and again after spring break....

    Welcome back to cruising :D

  12. ...I have a couple of caveats and questions:

-- A number of the posts here mention cruises which are in the very near future. ...

    -- I am on a number of cruise-related email lists ...

-- Given the state of the economy what is the current feeling about cruise prices for the near (year or two) future? Have those of you who keep up with researching cruise prices noticed a substantial price influx in the past couple of months?

-- While I'm somewhat of a hermit, enjoy my privacy, and very much look forward to my first cruise on which I am the only cabin occupant, I certainly wouldn't be adverse to the idea of meeting a few Cruise Critic solo cruisers. Perhaps a few of us single/solo folks could plan a cruise together some day...

    Duane in Las Vegas

Welcome back Duane! Here's my 2cents on some of your questions:

-- A number of the posts here mention cruises which are in the very near future. Unfortunately a good majority of the deals are close to or after the 90-day 'final payment' date. I've found NCL (often) and Princess (occasionally), and (?) Carnival have some awesome deals during this time. I can't speak to all these lines, but I do know that NCL DOES NOT give onboard credit, upgrade or other perks if you book and the price goes down. However if you paid $xxxx for your cabin and that will now pay for a better cabin, you can ask for an 'upgrade'.

-- I am on a number of cruise-related email lists. The only site i know that ever lists any solo specials in a group listing is *************.

-- state of the economy - I haven't noticed any difference in future cruise prices.

-- While I'm somewhat of a hermit, enjoy my privacy, and very much look forward to my first cruise on which I am the only cabin occupant, I certainly wouldn't be adverse to the idea of meeting a few Cruise Critic solo cruisers. You're talking to someone who totally understands that! (LOL, there's actually a post here about "is it ok to want to be alone?") This may sound lame, but when I find a cruise/price/etc that appeals to me, I check out the CC message board for that specific cruise.

Just look for a group of people that sound fun and interesting to you; by all means don't limit it to singles. I just enjoyed my two best cruises ever, and while there were singles among them, it was the group of people that made it special!

  13. I also suggest Aer Lingus. I have a flight ORD to DUB for Dec. 1 for $225 (plus some taxes). GREAT DEAL! (short flights in Europe are usually really cheap - under $50). It cost me more to fly to Puerto Rico one way!

    Good luck!

    Nancy
