One of the mass cruise lines (I wish RCL would try this) should take the lead (like the luxury lines already do) and have a ZERO gratuity policy when you book your cruise, the "gratuities" (which they are not, they are wages for the staff) would be already included into the cruise fare. All of us would be on an equal playing field... no one gets hurt, staff nor cruiser. Everyone would know what do to re tipping without the pages and pages, threads upon threads of posts here on CC. Any extra "tip" given on board would truly be an actual tip given to that individual just like you do on land.
Amen!

Thanks for all the input guys/gals!
Since it will be our 20th Wedding anniversary in the middle of the cruise I may splurge and go for the GS.

One other question ... Can you bring (well behaved) children to the happy hour in the CL or is it strictly for adults only?

I'm looking at booking a suite on Symphony for next May. It will be four us (2 kids) and the KSF is in place so they cost next to nothing outside of taxes.
The prices I'm looking at are: $4,800 for a Junior Suite and $6,700 for a Grand Suite.
Are the perks really worth almost $2,000 more?

Only if your phone is capable of doing "Wifi Calling". You have to enable Wifi Calling on your phone and when on ship, put your phone on airplane mode. Then connect to the internet with your VOOM. Wifi calling should start to work.
Thanks we both have Galaxy S7's and I know they have WiFi calling!

So if I purchase the VOOM package I can text to anyone at no charge (Verizon user with android devices).
I'm considering buying two VOOM packages for the kids (both have WiFi only android tablets) and then just getting the Royal IQ for my phone and my wives so we can text if we separate and use the app to plan things.
I may just tell my kids, "welcome to the 1980's where you go outside to play!" :)

You do realize that when you say "free" it's not free. "Included" would be a better word considering your cruise cost the price of a small automobile! :)
Is a Grand Suite worth $2K more?

My kids are 11 and 8 and they WILL behave or we leave. That's always been my parenting policy and I've raised both of my kids like that. I'm old school (just short of physical spanking) and always have been. Even when our kids were babies if they acted up in public we left so we didn't disturb other people. My kids will sit at the table and behave. There are plenty of places on the ship for them to run around.
