As Jareds mommy too advised, it's only soda from gun. We found it convenient when sitting at bars with friends, they had SBP, we did not, but we'd want to sip on something to be social. We purchased wine package to enjoy at dinner, and between the two, did not feel deprived at all (I think our friends may have been jealous that our wines were better) We're doing the same on our next cruise.

You may want to purchase the $50 (it cost $25 on line before you go) soda card. Use that for your sodas and pay as you go for other items.

Maybe you can recover it in “recently deleted”?

I’ll continue to give extra cash that the crew member can spend as they wish, and a candy bar. As to the candy bar, the crew member can keep it, toss it or give it away.

Enjoyed your blog very much. Thanks for vicariously taking me along.

I give cash but sweeten it with Kit Kats. I had heard they’re popular with the crew.

Thanks for all the info , we are going with a one way rental .
We did a similar post cruise one way rental, Quebec City to NYC. The drive wasn’t bad at all. We drove home and returned the car the next morning all for one day rental. Hey, you may even want to see if someone wants to split the cost with you.

If you have a Delta Visa card, you can make use of the Delta Lounge at the airport for, I think, around $25/person. They do have snack and breakfast items but not a hot made to order breakfast, a bar and coffee bar available, comfortable seating, and places to recharge electronics, and maybe free wifi (not absolutely sure about that). It was well worth the $$ when we had long waits for the flight back home!
I read that Delta has changed their rules on Lounge usage. You have to be on a Delta Flight.

Thank you both for the shopping recommendations. I mapped out Ralph’s to the cruiseport. The mile walk each way might be a good thing before going a a cruise. Will have a few days before we embark so can check out Rite Aid’s selection. Ralph’s does make it easy since selection is on line. Again, thanks.

I was typing as VennDiagram was posting. Once corkage is paid you can bring wine anywhere.

Great! Thanks for you quick response.

Can I drop luggage off in a.m. and embark later in day? I'm hoping to drop luggage; go to purchase some wine and then go through boarding process. How early would I be able to drop off luggage? Thanks.

Haven't eaten in specialty dining, but both husband and I prefer HAL MDR's food over NCL MDR's food.

I believe the Volendam uses the old locks while the Niew Amsterdam uses the new locks. You may want to take that into consideration when deciding.

I, too, would have expected a whole lobster. I don't know if I'd be disappointed, but would be surprised getting two tails.

I've taken both New England and Alaskan cruises. I loved them both but Alaskan cruise has much more of a Wow factor.

With respect to the wine not being decanted, corkage is usually paid while embarking, possibly wine steward/sommelier was uncomfortable decanting since corkage had not been paid. Certainly communication should have been better when bottle was delivered prior to dinner. Maybe OP did not realize that each adult is allowed one bottle corkage free but it's only for in cabin consumption.

You could also try Holiday Inn Express Downtown. One of their room rates includes cruise parking for a week. You could see if the time is extendable. They have shuttle to cruise port. Note, I haven't stayed here but have booked for my upcoming cruise.

Great, thanks.

Purchased a soda card, but sometimes need a Pepsi. Is it cans or bottles that can be brought on board? Any size restriction? Thanks

Thank you, all.

I booked cruise on line (Black Friday sale) I'm thinking about switching booking to local TA, more to give her the business than to get perks. What will I be giving up? Of course, final payment is this week, so I know I have to act fast if I'm going to do this.
Corkage/Wine Steward Gratuities
in Holland America Line

Does wine steward get any of the corkage fee as gratuity? I'm bringing my own wine on board and paying corkage. I don't want to stiff the wine steward. Any advice from someone who has brought their own wine aboard would be appreciated. Thanks.
