If you’re looking for authentic, imaginative fabulous food, leave the overpriced, tourist port for a taxi to Mahahual and go to La Chilangoense! Don’t be put off by the unassuming exterior. There are (surprisingly comfortable) tables and chairs by the water, and the food is amazing. For what we paid at the port palapa restaurant for a Mexican beer, small margarita and an order of guacamole we got a delicious, huge mango margarita, beer, a La Repetida tostada (fresh marinated tuna with various crispy veggies,) a marlin taco and a Taco Macho, plus complimentary chips and a bean dip to die for. Jackie, the very personable owner will take great care of you. Lots of beach vendors, all of whom were very polite, took our first “no, gracias” and wished us a good day. Altogether a great experience!

How much was the cab fare and do they have good shade?

  2. Once again, thank you for all of the replies!

Just to clarify for those questioning me "allowing" a 19 and 20 year old to do anything, I guess, allow is not the correct word. It would not be that I did not allow it, it would be about mutual respect and if I asked them not to do it, and had legitimate concerns/reasons they would trust my judgement.

  3. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Just to clarify, the 3 girls are sisters. the 20 and 16 year old are very responsible, the 19 year old not so much sometimes but she does listen to the 20 year old :)

It would only be a ship tour or a tour through a known reputable vendor, and had a guide. Me or hubby would go with them to the meeting place. Would only pick tours that were scheduled to be back to the ship in plenty of time before the ship departs. That is something I do not cut close as I have seen too many people left behind.

Normally we do our shore excursions as a family, but we have been enough times that the thrill has worn off for hubby and me, and we are content to just hang out on the ship. Plus at the cost of the excursions, would love to save the $$

  4. I asked the question on cruise critic for a friend (I have a passport) that is wanting to go on a cruise and asked me the question and since I don't use a drivers license I did not know the answer.

Her concern is this. Several years ago she got a speeding ticket in another state from where she lives, and she says she paid the ticket and forgot all about it. A while back she was stopped by DPS in her state and was told that when they looked up her license it showed that the ticket she had gotten several years ago in that other state had not been paid and was out standing, and that "technically" her license was not valid. The DPS did nothing about it, and just gave her license back to her. Recently she was stopped by a local cop for a routine insurance check etc..., and they never said anything to her about an issue with her license. Her license does not expire until next year so she has no idea if it will show up at that point.

She just wanted to know what the chance was that Carnival would be able to see the unpaid ticket and if it would cause a problem if they did.

Of course my advice to her was number 1 get a passport and number 2 get the issue with the ticket cleared up ASAP (which I get is hard to do as she doesn't really know how to go about it since she no longer has any of the paperwork). She is looking at a cruise in early June, and does not want to pay the fee to get a passport and the extra fee to expedite one :)
