  1. We just got the word from our TA that Celebrity canceled the St Petersburg stop on our Baltic cruise for August 2023.  Since this was the main reason we were going, we are canceling the cruise.  There is no way I would spend 1 penny in Russia right now so I am glad Celebrity made this decision early.

  2. I am not booking anything yet for the trip from Venice to Ravenna.  While I don't expect a change, there is still a possibility that the cruise might start and end in the Venice commercial port area.

We will have folks coming from all over and will meet in Venice before the cruise.  Due to the high price of flying into Venice compared to Rome, we will most likely take the train from FCO to Venice.

I booked an Airbnb close to the train station in Venice so it would be much easier for us to take the train to Ravenna than to go all the way back to the airport and take the Royal Caribbean buses.

  3. My wife and I just received our first vaccines two days ago in Dare County, NC.  Unbelievably well organized and efficient.  In and out in 20 minutes including the 15 sitting after the shots.  Every county vaccine site should be run as well.

  4. Today is my 61st day since cancelling.  I called HAL and spoke with a very nice rep.  She confirmed that they had my cancellation but she could not tell me when I would be reimbursed or when I would receive FCC.  She said they were working from home and doing the refunds and FCC by hand.  Needless to say, a refund might be months in the future, or never, so I disputed charges with the CC company today.

  5. Hello,  I live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  It is a very popular tourist site and the vast minority of the people here during the spring/summer season are full time residents.

There are only four ways onto our island; two bridges, driving down the beach from Virginia in a 4 wheel drive vehicle, and by boat.  A couple of weeks ago, the county government closed all accesses to all but full time residents.  This is to save the very limited medical support for locals.

As soon as this happened, some "corvi-idiots" tried innovative ways to beat the rules and bring visitors/tourists to the area.  They tried smuggling people in car trunks, smuggling them in by boat, and even putting a car on a tow truck to smuggle people in.

We have very few cases, predominately from folks who tested before coming down before the restricted entry rules.

People here seem to be following the stay at home rules and the supermarkets are pretty well stocked minus the usuals; toilet paper and hand sanitizer.  I still can't figure out how massive amounts of hoarded toilet paper stops the virus.

Good luck to everyone and thanks to all the medical personnel and first responders.

We are going in 2021 on the 18 day Tahiti to San Francisco Regatta cruise. I would love to go with Patrick but I'm a novice at snorkeling and my wife would just be riding along in the boat to enjoy the day. Does anyone with experience in a Patrick tour have an opinion on whether we would get value for the cost of the tour? Or should we try something else?

By the way, hi Verokaren, we live in Vero too.

We are also going on this cruise.  Two from Virginia and two from NYC.

  7. It is a shame that some tourists going to Machu Picchu have no sense of history.  We visited in 1973 on our own and were the only ones there.  No guides, no security.  We were able to roam around freely and left the site as pristine as we found it.  We haven't been back since and with the new restrictions we won't go back.

P.S.  I have great photos with no tourists in the background.

  8. I have used the Travel Insurance through USAA for many years.  The company they use is Travel Insured International.  You get a slightly cheaper rate booking through the USAA website.

The rates are very competitive and the service is absolutely outstanding.

We have had to make claims a for different reasons.  Once when an airline went on strike and one when we cancelled  a cruise the day before departure due to emergency surgery.

They paid 100% of submitted bills without hesitation.  Great company with very professional employees.
