  1. We have done the train trip from Munich to Budapest a couple of times. It is a great ride. The trains were usually fairly full until you get to Vienna then they empty out significantly. If you are taking the day trip, recommend you reserve seats when you buy the tickets.

I believe your cruise overnights the first night in Budapest so the day train trip would be an option. Recommend you call AMA and see if you can check in after 1500. I don't think it will be a problem.

  2. My wife and I are taking the whole family on a cruise in November. We booked onboard so each of the cabins gets $100 OBC.

Will Royal Caribbean move all the OBC credits to my cabin so we can use it for a surprise we have planned?

If so, how do I arrange it.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. We took the cruise a couple of years ago. It is one of our favorites!!! The year we went, the tulips were a little late blooming but they were still incredible.

Like all Uniworld cruises, the ship, staff, and itinerary are top notch.

Only problem is the stop in Antwerp. Too many diamond stores and prices much better than in the states. Had to increase the Belgian GNP.

We are thinking about taking this cruise again it was so good.

  4. We had no problems getting "too large" suitcases under the bed. Just had to put them under from the sides not the foot of the bed.

As far as the two movies. The CD said it was an option that they had. They didn't plan any other shows and nothing was cancelled.

I've got to say again, and again --- the crew were great. They were happy to be heading south after our cruise. They were looking forward to warm weather.

  5. My wife and I were on the same cruise. We were also surprised that they showed movies two nights rather than have a live performance (one movie was 56 years old - Gigi).

We had a lot of maintenance problems in our cabin. Couldn't get the heat turned off the first few days - we had to open the balcony door to cool down the room. The last two days, there was no heat at all and maintenance never came to fix the problem. No sewer odor but we saw crew cleaning out the sewage lines a couple of times because people were flushing things that shouldn't go into a toilet.

That said, we found the staff to be absolutely outstanding. Our cabin steward was great. So was our waiter, assistant waiter, and head waiter. Everywhere we went, we were met with smiles and hellos.

We found the food to be as good or better than we have had on any other ships.

Were we a little disappointed with the cabin maintenance on this cruise - yes. Will we stop sailing on RCI - no. In fact, we are on another cruise in January, which we booked after this one.

  6. I agree with Jazzbeau. We took the Douro River cruise with Uniworld in September. It was out tenth river cruise overall (more than one company).

I compared my experience on the Douro with a couple of the negative reviews and can't believe that I was on the same cruise.

Take every review with a grain of salt and go on the cruise. You will be happy that you did.

  7. We liked the hop on hop off bus. There are two or three different companies that run in Lisbon. We got to Lisbon a day early and taking the bus gave us a "lay of the land". There were overlaps but it gave us a chance to take pictures that we would have missed if we took the cruise lines tour only. I would take the hop on again if arriving in Lisbon early. I wouldn't if arriving the same day as the start of the tour.

Uniworld (and AMA) use the Tiara Park Atlantic. Nice hotel in a quiet location. If you book with the Tiara Park and let them know you are on a Uniworld cruise you will stay in the same room.

Weather was pretty good. They called for rain every day (like they do here) and it only rained one day other than our arrival day in Lisbon. The time it did rain it was only for twenty minutes or so. If you go to weather dot com and plug in Porto you will see long term weather reports. Check the percentage chance of rain. They usually say 20% so they are right if it rains or it doesn't. We didn't bring umbrellas. If it even hints at rain, every souvenir store will be selling cheap umbrellas.

Have fun on your cruises. The Douro is a great trip.
