  1. I checked my account today, and my FCC under my latitudes account was for half, and the other half was applied to my wife’s latitudes account, even though we were booked under the same reservation. I plan on filing for a refund as soon as the form is available. Does anyone know if both my wife and I need to apply for the refund separately, or just me since it was paid for on my card?

I stand corrected on the timeline for a merchant to respond - it varies from 20 days up to 45.

    https://www.chargebackgurus.com/blog/dont-run-out-the-clock-understanding-chargeback-time-limits

NCL can respond that they are processing refunds per their agreement and that could close the dispute.  Somebody has already posted on another discussion that their chargeback (Amex I think) was denied and they are waiting for the followup letter with the reason.

Per what “agreement”? For there to be an agreement, both sides need to consent to it. I never agreed to have to wait 14 days to even officially fill out their form to request the refund, and then wait another 90 days minimum to actually receive my refund. This was a one sided, arbitrary, timeline established by NCL that I never agreed to as the consumer.

It's all relative, I guess.  For folks who are actually battling illness for themselves or a family member, cruising seems like the last thing they would be worrying about.  I don't really want to touch on the fact that if you don't have an emergency fund built up, you probably shouldn't be spending $4K on a cruise because that's another story.  No one should be spending their last dime on a vacation.

I just struggle with the fact that, at a time when folks should be collectively coming together to show what is right and good about this country, there are people who just look for ways to complain (even about relatively insignificant things) instead of looking for ways to HELP.

While I definitely support having an emergency fund, how big of a fund do you think your average person has? Personally, I keep 6 months worth of expenses in a savings account for emergencies, but a lot of the “experts” recommend at least 3 months. So, say someone thought they were being responsible by having 3 months saved up. I know people who were laid off nearly a month ago due to Covid19. Now, couple that with having to wait 2 weeks to fill out the form for a refund, and another 3 months minimum to actually receive the refund, and you’re looking at 4.5 months minimum. See how that can be a serious problem for some people, and how that 4K is huge?

While that is correct, it doesnt not mean that its ok that NCL keeps the money for 90 days. If they cancel, money should go back to the owner asap, give it 2 weeks max. Yes, people shouldnt NEED that money, but that doesnt mean NCL has the right to delay it as much.

Very well said. Not to mention, on top of the 90+ days we have to wait for a refund, we also can’t even fill the form out until April 13th and that’s when the 90+ days starts. So, in actuality, it’s 104+ days. I feel like I’m providing them with an interest free loan.

Nothing dishonest about it. Its not like they hide it. Credit card chargeback will not work. They dont deny the claim, they just says it will take some time.

They dont do this to piss you or anyone else off. They do because they have running expenses. If you lost your income for several months, wouldn't you  also try to delay payments, so you have food on your table for you and your family?

They should treat any money received from customers as nothing more than a deposit, and not revenue until the cruise has actually taken place. It’s no different than any other business. It’s cliche, but you can’t count your chickens before they hatch. They should have enough cash on hand to cover refunds for future cruises in scenarios like this. If they don’t, that’s not a smart business practice.

Not UP to 90 days, on NCL's website it says AFTER 90 days!!!

Guests who do not prefer to take advantage of a future cruise credit will receive a refund to be payable after 90 days from completion of the Refund Form below. Refund requests must be submitted by April 27, 2020 for all suspended sailings.

Wow, good catch. They worded that very ambiguously. That could mean that upon day 90 after completing the form, you would receive your refund. Or, it could mean it will be at least 90 days after the completion of the form. They covered their bases for either scenario with their verbiage.

  7. While I practice patience as much as possible, I also understand how some people are a bit on edge. These are unprecedented times, and I’m sure for a lot of people, they’d like to get the ball rolling on a refund as soon as possible. After all, this is no small chunk of change that we’re talking about when it comes to what a lot of people have invested in these cruises. If someone unexpectedly lost their job, that 3-4K (assuming average cruise booking) could go a long way to keeping a roof over their head.

They are putting off cancelling cruises until the last minute, hoping YOU will cancel first. If you cancel, they don't have to refund your money. If they cancel, they do.

Yep, pretty obvious. They’re just delaying the inevitable and most people have caught on to their tactic at this point. They’ll cancel like a week before the 12th and then get hit with a flood of refund requests.

Actually Celebrity has also extended suspension into mid May and Disney extended from end of March to April 12. Disney announced that both parks are closed until further notice so you can expect extension of cruise suspension. Carnival is supposed to address extension on Monday and I heard that NCL will likely be addressing the 4/12 cruises the same day.

When you say “addressing the 4/12 cruises the same day” do you mean on Monday, the same day as Carnival?

The 14 day Florida rule will stop all cruises.  No one can take 15 days off BEFORE their cruise.   I am wondering when NCL will make the extension public!

I can get quarantined for 14 days---but the flight crew turns around and goes back?

What is the 14 day Florida rule?

Well that would be pretty awesome Hahahah.  I just hear some of the rhetoric from certain parts of the government, airlines are still flying although very reduced.

Airline travel can be considered essential in many cases. There’s nothing essential about a cruise, as much as we all enjoy them.

  12. With Royal Caribbean shutting down until May, I don’t see any scenario where NCL resumes in April. The optics would be horrible for them if they resumed in April, the virus infected people on the ship, while other lines had postponed. People would drag them through the mud (rightfully so) and say that other lines knew the dangers and closed, while NCL ignored the risk.

  13. Hello,

First time poster, long time lurker. I’m booked on the Breakaway June 23rd through the 30th, and after looking at the weather forecast, I’m a bit discouraged to say the least. This will be my 5th cruise, and I’ve always gotten lucky and had great weather. The forecast shows high wind and storms/rain for most of the itinerary. What I’m wondering is, when a place like Harvest Caye shows 80% chance of rain/storms, is it typically rainy all day this time of year, or similar to Florida where it rains for an hour and then the sun comes back out? My wife and I are taking her little brother and sister with us who’ve never been on a cruise before, and I’m really holding out hope that the weather cooperates. Any firsthand experience with cruising the western loop this time of year is much appreciated!
