It sounds like you're definitely going to need an accessible tour with a lift.   As others have said, you definitely need to contact your cruise line's access department (most have access departments that also deal specifically with excursions; some lines even have separate accessible excursion brochures).

Your cruise line needs to know about your mobility challenges in any event and will send a form for you to complete.

What cruise line are you going on?

Crown Princess and we leave in a week, so no time. I did complete the Mobility form. I have all accessible excursions. Doesn’t that mean they are Accessible?

  2. How far are the gardens from the cruise port? I didn’t get the accessible excursion I wanted with the cruiseline(sold out) so we may need to just book something upon arrival. I don’t need a lift as long as it was a car(no steps). Will there be that sort of thing there?

  3. I’m on the 28th too. I’n Juneau, they changed my excursion time by an hour. I called today and they said they credited my card(I haven’t seen the statement yet) for the excursion in Ketchikan, since we aren’t going there anymore. Good luck!

We made it to both ports ontime!  We docked at 2:30 in Juneau and they

told everyone that it would take about 30 minutes to get the walkways up for disembarkation. They made an overhead announcement when they were ready. My group did not get off right away (about 20 min after their announcement) and we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes.   I’m the Princess Patter is notice that in Skagway, it would take them from about 6am-11am to get the ramps in place to disembark. So during that time you would have to go down stairs to disembark and if you have mobility issues you will need to wait until that later time. So something to keep

in mind if that applies to you!

I’m not sure about meeting excursions because we used an independent operator for our whale watching — Alaska Tales and they were amazing! We got lucky and there were only 11 of us ok a boat that normally has 50 people. We got to see a bunch of whales, sea lions, and even some harbor porpoises which the captain said was rare.

I’m assuming we made it in time/close to on time at 7am in Skagway… I “slept in”  until 7. We are going scenic white pass excursion booked through the ship later this morning, so I can report back.

Overall my group has been having a blast!  We’ve been really enjoying Maria who hosts most of the trivia on the ship. The singers and dancers were really good at the stage productions 2 nights ago. And the food has been great!

Do you think the ramp problem in Skagway is a one-time thing or ongoing? I’m in a wheelchair and have an excursion early, at 8am.

Would the wheelchair have to go on steps also, and how many steps?

Was it in the buffet? We asked a crew member to point us to the tea sandwiches, and they were some sort of roast beef thing on a Hawaiian roll. There were no scones.

We are going on the Regal in three weeks. Hopefully can do it at least once.

I heard it is in one of the MDR’s. I watched a you-tube video.

As an FYI, if you are flying, and happen to be on a 737, there is a wheelchair closet that fits a collapsed manual chair.  On 737-800’s, it is at the front of the plane, and older planes at the back.

If you ask at the airport gate, they are supposed to allow its use.  One issue is that if you choose to ask to use it, you end up usually being last off the plane, as they wait for the aisles to clear before getting the chair out of the closet.
We needed to use it a few years ago when traveling with my dad, and his manual chair broke as we were disembarking from the ship.  We got him off the ship, and when we arrived at the airport, the airline didn’t want us to check the chair due to the damage.  I asked that we store it in the closet on board, since we were in a 737-800.  They didn’t want to but finally allowed it.  There wasn’t really any other way to get the WC home.

it was a stupid plastic part near one of the wheels.  Annoying but repairable once we were back in Missouri.

A WC bag would have saved a LOT of hassle.

I read on another website that the reason they are hesitant is because the flight attendants like to use it for their own storage.

  7. This has probably been asked a hundred times, but I got tired of reading all the Canadian posts. We are going on an AK cruise in 2 weeks, departing on Saturday. Two of us are fully vaccinated(both boosters) and 2 have just one booster. Can the two who are fully vaccinated test starting on Wednesday and the other two starting Thursday? Also Princess recommends Walgreens, but they no longer have the rapid Antigen test. Does Princess accept the NAAT test? Thank You.

  8. We are new to Princess and going on an Alaskan cruise. What are the times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the MDR’s? I’m trying to coordinate with activities. Are there any special meals for the first night? Can you take your carry-on to your cabin and wait for your cabin to be ready or do you have to haul it with you?

  9. The accessible excursions are mostly sold out but if I read correctly persons who don’t need a lift may have to take the regular bus. Do many people book these excursions just for convenience? I will have a wheelchair and absolutely cannot walk. I don’t think my family wants to lift me.

  10. We are new to Princess. When I’ve cruised Norwegian and Celebrity, it was “use it or lose it.” It looks like Princess is different, and they will send you a refund check. Am I correct? Also, for the Crown, how/when will the $100 credit show up?

  11. Are there car services or taxis waiting at these ports? I waited too long and now my wheelchair-accessible excursions are not available. I need a car (not a bus with steps) that will hold 4 people and my folding wheelchair to go to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and Butchardt Gardens in Victoria. Will we be able to get there?

    Hi, All!

I'm cruising to the Caribbean next month & to Norway in June. I'll be taking my new rollator/walker for the first time.

My question: how best to transport the rollator on the airplane?

    * Should I check it as I do my larger suitcase?

    * Or should I wait & check it at the gate, as is done with a child's stroller?

It folds somewhat & I'll secure it with zip ties (or such). Should I also give it a wrap of bubble wrap?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It depends on how mobile you are and how long you’ll be in the airport. Check it if you can use just a cane. I keep mine with me and gate-check it, so I can use it to get to the restroom.

We are very new at this and trying to figure out all the rules etc. Do I understand correctly that a transport chair, a walker or a wheelchair can travel free on the airlines?

What about other items needed? I'm thinking I'll need to take a suitcase full of Depends, chuxs and other items ...I would guess that's just considered "regular luggage" and must be paid for?

I've read that some lines will provide Depends but I would guess that would be much more expensive than bringing your own?

Thanks for any help!! You all have been so helpful!!

Yes, all medical items fly free. We bought a soft-sided bag for the wheelchair/walker(it holds either) on Amazon. We put all the supplies in the bag and check it all. There is no charge.

We will be cruising in October on the Carnival Horizon. Our ports are Aruba, Curacao, La Romana & Amber Cove. We are going with my BIL & SIL (first cruise) and my BIL will have a scooter.  He can walk some w/a cane, just not long distances. I am wondering if it wouldn't be smart to also take a collapsible wheelchair.  We want to do some tours of the islands as they are all new for us, but am concerned that with the scooter we would be limited. Was looking at several bus/jeep/UTV tours, but they don't look very scooter compatible, but could be wheelchair compatible.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great and much appreciated.

We brought a walker and a wheelchair on our cruise in January and will do so again in June. No problem at all. I can’t say about a scooter though. Excursions should be accessible or be prepared to push on rough ground or possibly not be able to fit the scooter or wheelchair on the bus.
