  1. Was on the Allure 4/17 - 4/24. The beds had an egg crate foam topper on them. I really didn't care for it. I think it made for a hot bed. Kind of squishy too. I like a real hard mattress. Carnival beds are perfect for me. The pillows were meh. All in all, I slept pretty good considering.

  2. I highly recommend either Hyatt House or Hyatt Place in Dania Beach, Fl. They are right next door to each other. Across the street is a very large shopping plaza which has lots of stores, restaurants, etc. We did take the shuttle from there to the pier once - I think it cost $11 ea - would be cheaper to take a cab. I don't know if they have "free" shuttle/pick up from the airport thought. These hotels are VERY clean and modern. They both provide free breakfasts - Hyatt House has more of a full buffet but the Hyatt Place has a more than ample breakfast also. Check them out online.

  3. Without getting flamed, I would say no!

Several reasons, although you may think he is behaving, others may not - playing with toys on the high chair, being passed from person to person; all can be very distracting to other diners. Many others may be celebrating a special event, or want a quiet intimate dinner. Specialty restaurants usually take longer than the MDR; again, idea is for a relaxing evening. Tables are not placed that far apart.

All that being said, should you decide to go I think Giovanni's is the most family oriented.

I agree. Although I love children (have 2 wonderful grandchildren 7 and 8 yrs old) if I am in a specialty restaurant which I have had to pay extra for, I would not want to be seated next to children. I'm sorry but sometimes I just like to have adult only time. I think there are plenty of times the parents can go to a nice restaurant while at home and get a babysitter. I hope I don't sound like a mean grouch.

  4. I don't understand what the purpose would be of the cruise line to let the room steward know who has or has not opted out of gratuities. Maybe after the cruise has taken place, okay. But not during/before. Also, I find it hard to believe that any cash tipping is reported and pooled. (and if not reported, they are fired). Sure, if there is a tip jar out at the bar, then these tips are shared, but not if I tip the bartender individually. Anyway, I think people should do whatever they want regarding tipping. I myself find it easier to just pay the suggested gratuities - prepay or charge to my sign and sail and if I feel like it, give additional tips if and when I see fit to do so. That's just my take.

  5. On last month's Freedom cruise, my cabin steward's name was Blessing, and he was a "blessing". So nice and caring. Did a great job all week. Knew our names as soon as we entered the cabin. (Not that it matters to me if he did or not - but I thought that was impressive). I did wonder if that was his "real" name or not - but whatever - he was very good.

  6. Does anyone know if they've started carrying American Spirit brand?

Just off the Freedom last week - no American Spirit - they have Marlboro's, I think Pall Mall, not sure of what others - husband smokes Marlboro lights (gold) which they had. Bought a carton - customs did not check - should have bought more. You can buy a carton on the ship and smoke them there - not like alcohol -.
