Nothing dishonest about it. Its not like they hide it.
I just received my cancellation letter from NCL today. No mention or even a hint that a refund is available. Only FCC. That's called hiding it. That's dishonest.

... the category I'd like went from $5K to $6k since last week! So if I had received the 20% deal it would be for naught. FCC if I cancel is worth 20% less than last week.
Even I can handle that math. The raised the price of the cruise 20% at the same time they offered 20% off. I'm shocked. Shocked! They really do think we're stupid. And they may be right in a few cases.

You should be excited and happy you are actually getting a refund.
I should be excited and happy about getting a refund for services not performed? Is that part of "cruise life"?

I thought the deposit would be forfeited.
Seems a small price to pay. If that cruise goes (doubtful), I bet it's at least $100 cheaper than what you have it booked for.

But living without any regard for others, apparently.

Especially with your proclamation of NEVER sailing with them.
I think they are just confirming to themselves that's the right decision. Which it clearly is.

Friendly Fraud is another cruise thing one is expected to put up with?

Maybe a river cruise.

Maybe not dishonest, but second rate. Anyone rebooking with these guys are nuts. If I pay you to redo my kitchen and later you say you can't do it, a reputable person gives me my check back. A chump tells me to fill out a form than wait 3 months. It's my money you've had for 3 months. You've given me nothing for my $4,500, give it back.

Welfare of all crew is the responsibility of NCL. Regardless
Yup, just more victim blaming.

The takeaway that is still sticking with me is the assertion from some here that poor treatment from a cruise line is just part of the "cruise life" and one needs to suck it up. If that's the case, the "cruise life" is not for me. I'm still hoping my cruise gets cancelled so I can take my money and not rebook.

Wouldn't it be interesting to hear NCL's side of the story? I wonder what they would have to say.
I'm sure it would very legal and corporate rubbish.

On think in times of crisis like this is you can weed out the scummiest cruise companies out of the herd. Of all, NCL seems to be the absolute worst. Remember whom you go with the next time once all this clears out.
I agree. I'm also stunned by the folks that seem ready to blame the victims no matter the situation.

Sorry, but there are dead people on many cruises. This is the world cruise. It's not surprising. I was once on a sailing that had 6 dead. People die. There is no report of cause of death either.
Four people dying on a ship isn't right or normal.

The 20% off is a trick. They've jacked the rates up so high that you're actually getting a bad deal even with the 20% off.
I don't think folks understand this. All the tips, hacks and past experiences guiding when to get the best prices are gone. The entire cruise world is changed, there will be a new normal. I don't know what the new normal will be but I do know that the cruise you want now will still be available in the future, for less.

I would like to thank everybody on this board for their insights and information and this seems as good a thread as any. Based on said insights and reading all the good and bad, I am hoping I get a do over and my cruise on the Encore gets cancelled. That's not a boat for me. That picture with all the lounge chairs on top of each other gave me chills even before the Corona hit.
I picked NCL for my 1st cruise because I was attracted to the freestyle aspect and wanted to sail out of NYC. But if I book another cruise I'll know better what to look for and it won't be NCL. I don't trust them. Their response to the crisis has always been to follow the others and make their offers not quite as good across the board. I'm going to go with one of the cruise lines that stepped up in this crisis, not one that shirked away.

I can't believe there will be any cruises leaving from NYC for a good long time. I'm sitting tight and requesting a refund as soon as my cruise is cancelled.

Cancel, and if the cruise does go ahead, just book again. Will probably cost a lot less .
Exactly. I just looked up no-brainer in the dictionary. It used this as an example.

NCL has been a follower, not a leader. If I'm lucky enough to get my money back, I'll think long and hard before booking another cruise. And it won't be NCL.

I don't know but I wonder if they wait until your cruise date before they issue a refund.

You seem to want to put a negative slant on 'quid pro quo'. Guess what? It is how business is done, all over the world. Has been like that for centuries. It's ok. I blame the fake news media for feeding the ignorance to the masses.
Except this isn't business, it's our democracy. And the deals are supposed to be for the good of the country not to make one guy look good.

Take the money, you can always book later. That extra 25% in FCC is just a mirage, even if they don't go under. Prices will be lower in the future in an attempt to recapture the business. My take is that so many cruisers out there are habitual and ships will be docked long enough for many to get out of the habit.

This, friends, is the selfish millennium attitude that is going to kill a lot of people. Very sad.
Huh? Until Monday their president was calling it a Democratic hoax. Let's not blame those who listen to their president. We still don't know how bad this because we don't have nearly enough testing yet.

What are the chances my 5/31 Encore out of NYC will be cancelled?
