Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Live on the NCL Getaway out of NYC. When arriving to the cabin today, noticed we only had the first day of excursion tickets, seemed odd.. for around 1 hour until the explanation. Have been keeping an eye on the weather and was worried we might have to leave Bermuda the night of the 3rd due to 50mph gusts+ on April 4, which would have been our third day in Bermuda. Just announced we will only be in Bermuda one day, April 2nd. We will have to leave at 6pm, the same day - April 2nd. They are adding two additional at-sea days, and Nassau Bahamas on April 4th. No credit, but were told we could get 20% off a future cruise with a credit, no sort of on-board compensation. Would be nice if they updated the app, so we could book things out of Bahamas for the 4th. Per another announcement just made, all 2nd and 3rd day excursions will be credited. Would have appreciated some OBC, but I think they're doing their best while trying to keep the stock price alive.
  2. I use the Opal (same company) - these are the ones you want. Currently 15% off so $33 or so before tax. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09N72FMH5/
  3. It'll work great. I use it later at night before sleep to stream Chromecast, etc. to the TV while cruising.
  4. It's actually easier. 1) Connect to router (yours) 2) Choose Repeater, and choose the network you want to clone. On my models (GL-Inet) you'll get to choose granular access points by MAC address and SSID, not just the SSID. This way you won't be trying to reach out to an access point way down the hall, rather a closer one. 4) Select NCL Wifi network 5) Connect off your cloned SSID (eg: My Beryl AX) 6) Go to something like AOL.com to get the captive portal, via your mini router device's MAC address 7) Once logged in you can connect multiple devices. It's up to you how you use your internet. Just log off once you're done sharing, and then re-connect when you need. If you get an unlimited package like I do, I roam around the ship with it connected to my phone, logout when back at room, and connect my setup so my fiance can share. Enjoy!
  5. No, no it doesn't. That would be a 'switch' - not a router. This. If you have the ability to navigate your cable box interface it should be easy. Hearing someone call it 'complicated subterfuge' is just sad.
  6. The person who you replied to was me 😀 I noticed this on the 2nd when making an additional payment, around 6-8 hours before they started sending out memos regarding this and ran to CC to see if anyone knew about it. Had no idea the change was made that day! @RedwingHockeyFan Interesting to know they were selling Spa Rooms on the Joy for a while, I don't even see them on the ship's page, before or after Jan. Only odd because the Getaway and Breakaway show Spa categories, albeit none after Jan 2024 sailings.
  7. The Joy isn't getting a thermal suite until 2024. I think by the time they're finished, while it'll have a Thermal Suite, no rooms that automatically come with it. Good on NCL for honoring existing reservations on this.
  8. Just received official notification with the letter posted earlier for our March, 2024 sailing. Nothing so far about Nov, 2024, but hope they're going in order. Worried by Nov, 2024 staff will forget.
  9. If you're looking to check email and a few websites, shouldn't be an issue. If one of you wants to surf Netflix... may want to get the premium plan and test the GL.iNet solution. Buy one, hook up at house, connect to it's WiFi and browse to https://192.168.8.1. PW is on the device. Once logged in, in repeater mode on the left side click 'Scan' - It will show all WiFi names. Choose your homes and enter the PW. It'll be the same on NCL, except you need to pass through the captive portal once to register your router as the 'device'
  10. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09N72FMH5/ This is my go to, GL.iNet has always been solid. Right now 39.90 with a 10% coupon, under 40 bucks all in with tax. I'll be on the Getaway and Breakway next year, so we'll have a pretty good amount to test with Starlink on board. For newbies setting this up, you essentially plug it in, look for its SSID, connect to the device, then go to it's homepage at https://192.168.8.1/ and scan for NCL or whatever other Wifi you want to repeat. Once you captive portal authenticate, you'll be good. Connect your Chromecast, etc. to the device's WiFi name. EDIT: Also, if your ship still has EMC, use this in tandem with a VPN provider. It works flawlessly. No weird caching.
  11. In this case, the router is the 'device' connected, NCL only sees the MAC (hardware address) of 1 device. Your other device(s) tethered to that they are unable to see. Often use it to Chromecast at hotels, or in this case, only need to buy one full-premium internet subscription. Keep in mind they don't reach well, so this is something that really helps with in the room.
  12. He's still using one device, so yup - paying for every cent he's using. It just happens that device can rebroadcast another SSID. I do the same and GL iNet routers are the best for this.
  13. One interesting thing when I made today's payment was in the verbiage of the summary, it said: Please note, in an effort to provide you with the best Freestyle Cruising experience, we have given you a complimentary upgrade to stateroom 14XXX. It was the same stateroom number as before but my room shows as M9-MA, not just M9. So hopefully there's some distinction that shows you were in their previous 'Spa' rooms, or perhaps you may get an upgrade if you call and let them know your room number disappeared. Didn't know they made this change today, so likely it's why your room number isn't showing, but it's good to know I'm not paying down a cruise with less features than before! (thank you again for the PDF, I booked direct, but nothing)
  14. As of Jan 2 / Jan 7, 2024 - these rooms cease to exist, and therefore, I guess we get grandfathered in for what we paid for already 'complimentary' - despite having paid $220 extra per room (as per today for our March, 2024 Club Balcony Suite.) I honestly don't care what they call it, but thank you @D_And_K_gocruising on something official, this has sunk my feelings the last few hours on how much I'd end up paying extra for our next two cruises, but good on NCL for at least owning up to it. This gave me flashbacks of our last cruise when they told us our Haven Spa Suite wasn't a spa room despite the name of it on the door and the website. Had to work with the concierge and she worked with on-shore people just to get us Thermal Suite access after I showed her their own site. I wonder if they were toying of the idea back then 1+ year ago, but finally went through with it. Thanks again for posting!
  15. I sure hope this is true (they hold to it), and thank you for posting! Nearly had the thought of asking to rebook under a different class after seeing the $220 difference per person and 181 days left to sail.
