Many thanks for all the responses, very helpful What is Roll Call ? This is a special trip to us as we both have a birthday ending in a 0 !! We want to enjoy every aspect of the trip so will take what ever we need. The idea of posting them back is attractive.

We will be taking our first cruise of any type when we sail on QM to New York. We are seasoned travelers but complete novices as far as cruising is concerned I have a number of questions and would be grateful for any help. What are dress requirements for the gala dinners, is simply a jacket and tie enough or will I have to wear a lounge suit or, even more problematic, a DJ ? We are going on a two month trip around Canada when we arrive and will need a completely different set of clothes for that. What on-board activities will I need to book before departure, I understand the English National Ballet will be onboard for that cruise. Will I need to prebook that or anything else ? I will probably have more questions but can't think of them at the moment Thanks

Many thanks for all the above responses., very helpful. I have now booked cabin cabin 5118 on deck 5 I will probably have lots more questions as we are first timers. We are doing this as we both have special birthdays ending in a 0 this year. We have a long trip in Canada planned and we thought it would be a nice way to get there.

I have also made the Aberdeen to Lerwick crossing, just one return journey, it was ok but not great. Different boat to the one above though !

We are planning to book a trip to New York on Queen Mary 2 in August. We have never been on a cruise before and our only experience of boat travel is of ferries, neither of us is a particularly good sailor. We think we should have a cabin as low down as possible and as near the centre as possible. Which would be better cabin 5118 on deck 5 or cabin 6159 on deck 6

My first post so please be gentle ! We are planning a longish trip to Canada next year for our special birthdays and want to return home on the Queen Mary 2. We have never been on a cruise before and need some advice on which cabin to choose. We are planning on having balcony cabin and want something midships as I am not sure we are going to be good sailors. We also something which will be quiet. Any suggestions for which cabin would be best. Many thanks
