Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I’m a novice cruiser (about to go on my 2nd ever cruise, on Norwegian) and I am considering booking something on the Meraviglia out of NY. April of this year is a possibility or October/November. The low prices are enticing, but I’d love to find some more info on the “extras” that aren’t part of the fare— specialty dining packages, extra entertainment options, spa pass, drink packages etc. (I’m not a big drinker so chances are good I’d skip a beverage package anyway.) I’ll very likely be traveling solo and would probably go for a balcony cabin at the Fantastica level. Yesterday there were a few extremely low base fares (high $200’s- low $300’s) for a couple 7-8 day sailings, but today those have increased to $400 range. Still a very good deal but I wonder if there was a “sale” that just ended? I know there are always promotions, but it would be nice to know if whatever was available yesterday will come back around. TIA!
  2. No, I’m kind of borderline to making it worth it for just myself, but I’d like the flexibility to try new things without feeling like I have to drink it if I don’t like it.
  3. She stays away from sugar other than tonic water, but it looked like seltzer was included with that as well which she drinks a lot of. I’m sure she’d get use out of it if that’s what they require in this case.
  4. Thank you, I used the chat feature on the website to ask about this and they directed me to the Access Desk as well. It sounds like they will make exceptions in cases like this, so hopefully they’ll be able to help. It’s certainly not the end of the world if I have to purchase drinks individually, but not having to worry about the extra cost at the end would be nice.
  5. Does NCL ever make exceptions to the rule that all adults in a cabin must have the drinks package? I am traveling with a recovering alcoholic (who is not bothered by my wanting to have a few drinks) and I had originally turned down the free beverage package. I understand the need to keep people from taking advantage and sneaking drinks to others but I’m just wondering if they have some option for people traveling with a sober companion.
  6. That’s great, thank you. And is there a maximum stay? I’ll be gone 8 days.
  7. I’m looking at possibly doing this for my cruise next month, but is it safe to assume there will be parking available at the ferry? I’m planning on driving down that morning, so no hotel to worry about, and I’d love to pay $22/day rather than $40/day. Is there tax on top of the $22 or is that inclusive? Thank you, it’s super helpful to be able to talk to people who’ve done this before!
  8. The one I’m looking at is the North Bergen Fairfield Inn and Suites. You can also book this same package directly through the Fairfield website, but it’s almost $100 more.
  9. Anyone had any experience booking a hotel and cruise parking through trinityreservations.com? I’m cruising out of NYC (Manhattan) next month, and since it’s a 4-5 hour drive to the port, I was thinking of driving down the day before in order to be able to board as early as possible. Through trinity I could book a room for 2, including breakfast, round trip transfers to/from the port and parking for the length of the cruise. I’m concerned that it may be “too good to be true” at $340 including all fees. That’s total cost, not per person. Also wondering if I’m just asking for my car to be broken into. They offer several different hotels in NJ at various distances from the port (the one I’m looking at is 8 miles) and they range in price from $340-$500ish, but most of the more expensive ones are farther from the port. It doesn’t say anything about parking security, and I can’t find much in the way of reviews. Taking the bus would actually be more expensive and less convenient, so it seems like a great idea if it’s legit. Would love any info/advice anyone has to offer! Thanks!
  10. I’m traveling on the Getaway to Bahamas in March, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on the outlets in the balcony cabins, specifically the “family balcony” (although keeping fingers crossed for a possible upgrade to a spa balcony). I use a CPAP machine and from what I’ve read the outlets are very minimal. I’m planning on bringing an extension cord or power strip, and I know that it can’t be surge protected. Will a 5 ft cord likely be long enough to reach to the bedside? Also, I’m traveling with another person and we’re going to have the beds separated, is there still a nightstand for each bed? Thank you!
