Ditto NCL in Barcelona
Perhaps attempts by authorities to squeeze tax out of cruisers, and NCL retaliating by saying "Then we won't sell any in your port. The tax that you'll gain will be a percentage of zilch"
JB 🙂
Are you saying you can't get spirits when docked in Barcelona too?

Happened last year in Greece ports. You weren't allowed alcohol and then a few weeks later you were allowed alcohol with the drinks package. Similar but can't say if this will be the same

To be honest I think the Livorno port rules will change again in a month or so and it will be different from what it is right now

Thanks for the warning. Next port is Cittavechia and it looks like no alcohol can be sold while on that port either. Those who purchased packages ($109 per day onboard) and received no warning at Tim elf purchase are fuming. I’m flexible and I’ll be fine with beer and wine in Livorno and we actually took the option to disembark in Citaveccia so it’s not too bad for me, but some passengers paid extra to have their favorite liquor or paid outright without being given notice of this. I would be upset too if I paid full price for the package or upgraded and did not drink beer or wine. We only booked our cruise two weeks ago and received no notice. If it was a recent change I feel NCL could have notified it’s passengers who bought the package.
Someone posted that in Civitavecchia you are allowed all alcohol if you have the drink package. If you don't then no alcohol.
Let us know if it's the same when you arrive in civitavecchia.
Also would be good to know if spirits are allowed again as soon as you start sailing from livorno, or if it wasn't allowed for the rest of the evening like someone else mentioned

There are several posts in this thread showing NCL IS informing its guests with signage. What more would you have them do?
I think it's more you only get the information on the day. It would be better if it was possible to view all the ports on norwegian's website, and the relevant restrictions (if any) and port taxes associated with each one. But this isn't published.

On Norwegian ships just now, no spirits are allowed when in port of Livorno.
Is this happening on other cruise ships too? Anyone know why? And is this something that will likely change?
-
The fact it says cigarettes as well, it's definitely some tax thing, and Norwegian just don't want to pay it, and save themselves some money. Probably higher tax on spirits.
I guess it might change, if Norwegian is able to negotiate and come to some sort of deal with the port authorities?
-
I don't understand what's the big deal with spirts not being allowed.
And is this going to be the case from now on then for the rest of the year?
-
I take it you can sort the onboard spending account later on once off the ship if there is an issue?
-
If someone is docked on an NCL ship in livorno or civitavecchia soon, can you post what the bar service was and if any restrictions 🙂

Do the ports not make the rules they impose to cruise ships public ? So you know what the rules will be for every port ?
It doesn't seem consistent either, some Norwegian ships have been able to have drinks with no restrictions when in these ports
-
So if it's just to do with fees for sales, surely if you are getting free drinks under free at sea drinks package then everything should be included as you aren't purchasing anything, so NCL should have no fees to pay to any authorities
-
Would be interesting to hear if it's the same for others if anyone else is at these ports soon on a cruise.
-
This doesn't look good 😞.
But based on that one above, it look's like if you have the free at sea drinks package you are still allowed all your drinks?
Don't understand, if you have left and you are at sea surely they can serve liquor ? :S

Hi,
Someone on the Norwegian Breakaway yesterday posted the below. Is this a permanent thing? Any reason why?
We are on the Epic in the summer and have an overnight in Livorno and don't leave the next day till 7pm. Does that mean we will only be allowed those drinks below for that whole time?
-
With the speciality dining package where you get a fixed set of courses at À la carte restaurants (like 1 appetizer, soup, entrée, desert etc ) are they flexible normally? For example say you didn't want an appetizer , could you get an extra desert or something else?
Been looking at Cagney's steakhouse as an example and don't understand why all the appetizers are seafood based. Seems a bit unusual.

@mking8288 has the Epic been good then overall? I'll be on it in July.
-
So still no new show? 😞

Is it officially stated anywhere that you can't request a coffee machine if you have an inside cabin or is it possible to do ?
Thanks

It’s the reward account both RBS/NatWest do, it was spend £500 get £150 back.
it also worked for both parties if you have a joint account so we have £300 pending
Didn't realise RBS done a norwegian offer sometimes, will keep an eye out for it.
For the Amex offer, did you get any email from amex saying that you used the offer once you made payment. Or did the credit just appear? I made payment on Tuesday but haven't had the credit yet

Payment made on Monday to NCL and credit applied this morning very efficient.
Wish I could say the same for RBS rewards account which had a similar offer that is still pending
The RBS account had a Norwegian cashback offer too? What was it?

If you bid and they don't accept it, can you bid again and raise it. Or is that it once they decline a bid and you can't ever do it again?
-
Looks like they updated website and doesn't show up again now

Port of Livorno regulations - Only beer and wine allowed????
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
This is the official comms from Norwegian about this that I got from them.
Our Company is not able to foresee in advance what will be the restrictions prior to sail and arrive in a specific port. All port authorities may apply some local rule anytime, prior or during the cruise for all worldwide cruise lines. Even if we understand that this will impact our guests, we are obliged to follow any local rules and we do hope our valued guests can understand Company position in our matter. Therefore, I am sorry but this cannot be checked as 'urgent verification' since the concerned policy can be only checked once arrived at the port and once the ship is docked.
