I’ve been meaning to write a post about my recent Regent air deviation experience, for my November Voyager trip. We ended up on United SFO to IST via FRA with Lufthansa finishing the job. The return from Barcelona is Aer Lingus to LAX, (we understand it’s not the best, but we )will appreciate the pre-clearance from Dublin.

be glad they didn't give you the TK nonstop old 777 seats.  UA Polaris will be fine as long as you get a decent FA.  and of course the LH flight will be standard European first (Coach with an open middle)

Aer Lingus should have good service.  Customs can be a little busy but not many vactioners in Ireland in November.  they fly the a330-300 which has a funky seat layout  The two 3, 5 K seats have more space If you want to sit together then the middle DG will allow aisle access but as a day flight not that critical.  Of the single a seats particularly, the even rows have more privacy  Glad it worked out.image.thumb.png.3d748c1e0125586fadad4345565d29d0.png

Glad to have it explained!  (Never go to MacDo as we call it here!!)

Hambagahle is a Sindabele word (Sindabele is a language which is spoken in Zimbabwe and is an offshoot of Zulu.   Literally it means "walk slowly".  But it is also used to mean "relax".  Being retired I try to do a lot of the latter but am not very successful at it!  I also lived in Africa for many years when I was growing up.  Now you know everything!

    I learn something new everyday!

Don’t know your exact travel dates but these are the cheapest Business Class shown on matrix.iatsoftware.com and have much better connections than it sounds like you got.

I believe OP is on the SYD - AKL Dec 20 cruise which is holiday time.  Though if they have time they could spend a couple months touring Australia.    I found regent air a good deal to ANZ but sounds like they are gouging them.  I understand the extra 250 for $non gateway city but what if the OP just took the routing they gave him - could it be much worse, and they would save $20K or so.  For that I'd tell regent to just fly me to the west coast or Texas and I'll make my way back to Florida on my own dime.

  4. What out of pocket are you working with how much is the air credit $7000 pp? and they are adding 10,000 pp ?  (4-6K per person per segment? ) That is $17K per person.  I'm seeing some flights outbound RSW-IAH-SYD on 12/17 (12/19arrival) and the return varies quite a bit depending on whether you leave 1/3 1/4 1/5 1/6 but the least price is a 2 stop AKL-LAX-DEN-RSW for around $23,600 for 2 people.   There is a 1 stop to IAH with an overnight in Houston which might be ok for you after the long return flight.  There is an airport Marriot in the terminal.

Well I just did my 210 day booking to/from Australia/New Zealand from USA. Despite the best efforts of the Air Dept agent, the available flights are sub par unless I was to fork over ~ $4-6000 USD per person per segment! Now that I have that off my chest, I was wondering from more seasoned cruisers whether, as time marches on, I can change those flights? As they have me booked with United for all segments, RSW-IAH-SFO-SYD and AKL-LAX-EWR-RSW [the exception being AKL-LAX on Air New Zealand], is there any hope that I could contact UAL for more advantageous bookings? Secondly, these bookings have layovers ranging from 3 to 10 hours. Although the RSSC agent said that I have access to lounges [I'm assuming Polaris due to First/Business class tickets], is that comment as safe as 'money in the bank? I have seen comments where that seems not to be the case for some travellers on some airlines. Thanks very much for your thoughts on these issues!

I'm not sure they could offer you a worse routing - if you don't take it.  With united /ANZ you should have lounge access on the whole trip.  I don't think they have Lite business like QR.  Biggest issue is that is holiday travel time.

We were not wowed by the "Anytime Brunch" class.

Probably because we would not have chosen any of the dishes we prepared ....... either for breakfast, lunch or brunch !

Maybe a transatlantic mismatch of tastes 😉

I don't think I would order any of those items if they were on the menu.  No Mismatch here.

Cooking classes in general appeal to me, but I'm a professionally-trained chef (CIA graduate), and the classes were just a bit too laid-out for me. It was just a matter of putting everything together at the individual stations, as all the prep work was already done. It's fun, but I didn't learn much. A little more depth would have gone a long way.

I'm sorry I don't know about the Anytime Brunch.

Considering it is a couple of hours I wouldn't expect a degree from it, but I've enjoyed the ones I've done and learning about mixing flavors and trying things I might not have been exposed to.  Just wondering what was in this particular class.

Probably a dumb question but which website would be the best one to see all international flights on all the airlines. Thanks

I like expert flyer - but I have a subscription, but you can get a free account and have a limited number of queries and alerts.  I can look at and set alerts if seats become available, equipment schedule changes...

ITA matrix by google is another more basic site.

Was just on Explorer.  Since first trip, it has been retrofitted to have a foot controlled stopper on closet door.  Definitely did need to engage the stopper on some nights.  Still had issue with whistling balcony door (twice out of 30 nights) but housekeeping and engineering checked frequently and fixed as soon as problem presented itself.  I was a very happy camper.

the door stop fixes were definitely needed. I don't mind some of the creaks and whistles as long as there are no slams.  Kinda makes cruising a unique experience.  Similar to camping, I still like sleeping with the windows open and hearing the jungle sounds (except the howler monkeys, they are a bit annoying but usually only howl in the early morning.)

  10. I certainly would agree that Regent Customer service/Managment is poor at best.  I'm surprised we don't have any data points from the other ships Explorer and Splendor on our suite reviews.  I would think they would have used the same materials, or wouldn't those other ships have encountered issues?  I did experience some issues in the PH sliding doors in rough seas which a rubber stopper solved.  That is just a given especially at the front of the ship with more movement.  I guess I expect some creaking on a ship all part of the experience for me and I can sleep through a lot (Especially with a few scotches or bourbon late night.)

I assume regent has some other data points on these suites across the three ships.   This was probably a bad fit for the OP and would be better in a midship suite or aft.  Not clear if they have sailed up front on other lines.  But until we know if this is grandeur specific issue it won't be clear.

Thanks Lonedaddy, I was able to book Culinary Class.

Awesome hope you enjoy as much as we did actually very entertaining, funny and interactive.  I think all three times our instructor was John. I’m sure others know who I’m talking about.

  12. The have many toiletries you might need but so do local ports cheaper.  They have some clothers you can get if your luggage doesn't arrive (bring a carry-on with some stuff especially if you have size issues, big tall petite....)  DW was disappointed as they didn't have many items in small or XS.  The watches are decent but nothing terribly unique.  The Bellari boutique has some nice pieces and unusual designs if you like jewelry but make sure you negotiate and don't fall for some of the gimmicks reminiscent of big cruise lines.  The two-color adjustable gold chain is nice to travel with.

We are also taking a Grandeur cruise in March ( might be the same cruise). Can you tell me if you did it on Your Account on the RSSC website or through your TA? I am not able to see how to do it on line.

go to your account and select the manage my booking and it will bring up something like below select the customize button under the culinary arts section.  If it is bookable it will be there.  (your TA can book as well be here you can read the descriptions and times/dates.image.thumb.png.069e65ece32fbfdfaa02601bb2fb76da.png

I'll repeat what I said earlier, on a dozen Explorer-class cruises, Culinary Arts Kitchen classes have always been offered.  So, be patient and keep checking!

Perhaps the regent agent should have stated that.  I would think it's a money maker.

From what I read, each of the prior threatened strike days (starting from April 30) were cancelled or postponed due to continuing union talks.  I would not sweat this.  On the other hand, we fly through LHR in July and August, so maybe I should worry.

You should worry anytime you go through LHR.

Tbh, we went through on a Border Force strike day the other week at Heathrow Terminal 5 and it was the quickest ever. No lines and the machines (for UK, EU, US, AU) all worked a dream. Took less than a minute!

Maybe works better when the managers are coming in to cover!

I heard they brought in the army to cover, and they staffed every booth.  Not sure that is going to happen this time
