  1. NCL arrives in Juneau at 2 and leaves at 10 - Are the 2:30 or 4:30 times on Viator going to work out or is it cutting it close for a 5-1/2 hour tour? You only get 1/2 hour on each end no matter which you take. I would think the 2:30 is safer bet.

  2. I found that Mendenhall glacier, whale watching and city tour through Viator for a good price. The reviews are good. I'm looking forward to it.

Thank you - I will check that out.

  3. Even in September I thought it was a little cool. Too cool to wear capri pants for me. I'm a Florida so that may make a difference.

We will be cruising the first week in September. I'm thinking that packing is going to be a challenge. A little bit of everything will probably be needed.

  4. The promo states no specialty drinks and no room service. Would the specialty drinks be the "drink of the day" specials? Margaritas? Rum & Coke? Martini's?

I compared my rate in 2014 to the rate for the same month in 2016 and it went up by $315.00 for the 4 days. We had originally booked an inside but got upgraded to a oceanview. I only compared the inside rate and did not include the $60.00 to upgrade for the 4 days.

  5. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the little boy. Until the full story comes out and they find out what happened, where the parents were and how the child got away from them, I will not lay blame on anyone at this point. That is not my place to do anyway.

A child is fighting for their life and two parents and a sibling are out of their minds with worry and sadness. They need to deal with this as a family. If the little boy doesn't survive they will have this haunting them the rest of their lives.

This should have been a fun time for them going on a vacation after the Holidays and it turned into one of the saddest times of their lives.

Praying the little boy makes a remarkable recovery so this family can move on and learn from this and hopefully other families have already learned for this.

Everyone on the cruise was also traumatized by the events that unfolded. I am sure everyone is praying for a positive outcome from all of this.

Embarkation day can be a little hectic and you need a plan to keep together.

Prayers, love and thoughts are being sent their way that everything turns out for the best. :)

  6. We're going on the Sky 4 day next week and we are the only ship in port on Grand Bahama Island.

We are going to Gold Rock Beach which is suppose to be one of the most beautiful beaches and then going to Ben's Cave while we are there.

Looking forward to our first cruise and getting very excited it's getting real close!!

  7. We're going on the Sky 4 day in less the 2 weeks. I have read that it is one of the more "casual" ships in the fleet.

I really don't want to over pack by taking too many clothes and not wearing them. I have nice pants, dresses, shorts, capri's, tanks, nice tops, etc. all laid out in the spare room. DH has the same (minus the dresses & capris) plus he also has polo shirts.

What we would wear in the day off the ship isn't what we would wear at night for dinner so we already have 8 changes of clothes for 4 days ready to pack. Plus sandals for me and boat shoes for him.

I have read people are wearing shorts and T-shirts in the MDR's. I don't want to take a chance and do that and be the only ones. At the same time I don't want to be the only ones who are dressed up either. I would like to be as casual as possible.

Should I just forget about the dress for myself and stick with the nice pants/capri's? Should I pack him one pair of long pants and leave the shorts for the rest of the time?

I know it's probably an individual choice but we have never cruised before so I really have nothing to compare it to but others opinions and experiences.

It just seems that right now I have an awful lot of clothes to pack for a 4 day trip.

  8. Are you departing from Miami, and on which ship ?

Yes we are departing and returning to Miami.

We get off our ship on Friday morning and the only two ships in port that morning are the Disney Wonder and RC Majesty of the Seas.

The day we leave for our cruise we have Majesty of the Seas and the Carnival Victory in port with us.

I will most likely take pictures of all of them, but really want a picture of the Disney Wonder because I love all things Disney, but really don't think we would ever take a Disney Cruise.

  9. You can take photos of the outside, but you won't be allowed on the ship.

Yes I knew that we couldn't go on the ship but I was just wondering if you can wander around the port area or are led right to the taxi's to leave the area.

I just want a picture or two of the outside of the ship.

  10. The Disney Wonder will be in port in Miami on our debarkation day.

We have never been on a cruise so I do not know how the ports are set up.

Would we be able to go down and look at it and take a few photos before grabbing a taxi off the port?

There are a few other ships on both embarkation and debarkation days but I really love Disney and would love a photo of one of their ships.

  11. Thank you for taking the time to post the information. It helps to understand why the prices do change.

I have been watching an Alaskan Cruise on the Pearl for several months and it just keeps going up. I think it started at around $579/pp and today it is $1029/pp for the cheapest cabin.

I was waiting to take my first cruise before booking it. Two reasons: 1-To see if I like cruising and 2-To get the Future Cruise Credit and use that toward booking the Alaskan Cruise.

Now I am wishing I had just booked it in the beginning.

I am hoping it will go down again.

  12. I just gave the cab driver that address and he took me right to it. Maybe Avis is 89 and budget is 15. There is a cvs a few blocks away for last minute needs. We stayed at the Hyatt and it was about 2 blocks

We are at the Hyatt as well. Did you like it? I did notice the CVS. It has to be the same place the signs in the parking lot say Budget/Avis.

  13. The sign on google I think says Avis, they are right next door (Avis and Budget are owned by the same company). Everything went smooth, in and out about 10 minutes.

One word of caution, Lady in front of us had booked her car for a noon pickup, they told her they did not have a car for her and she would have to wait until it got there. This was at about 9am, so when renting make sure to show up near the time you pick as the pick up.

    Thanks!

We are only dropping off there (picking up at the airport).

I called them yesterday as well. Very convenient location downtown, only about a block or so from the hotel we are staying at.

Oddly the address is 89 SE 2nd but when you google it they come up at 15 SE 2nd....hmm? Very clearly marked as Budget.

  14. We are headed to the Sky in just a few days- we will be platinum on NCL after this trip and have done multiple other lines, so will add my 2 cents when we get back. :)

Have a great time!! Can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back.

    Platinum!! How exciting! Congratulations :)

Our first cruise is next month..... LOL

  16. Getting ready for our first cruise-everything is paid for including excursions & DSC and now I am trying to think of what could be the extras that we will get billed for at the end of the cruise on our on board account. (This is only for the ship, not including expenses in the ports).

    Am I missing anything?

  17. This is interesting.

The route I will be taking on Google says Partial Toll Road and its from Davie Florida to Downtown Miami and lists the roads as FL-924 E/Garigny Pkwy/ then follow signs for FL-826 N/Opa Locka

Not sure which of those listed are the partial toll roads but how would I know if it is a cashless toll or not?

  18. Our plans kind of switched around a bit. We were going to spend time in Miami the night before the cruise and now may be visiting with relatives in another city.

On debarkation day we have about 4 hours before our flight leaves and we thought we would just go to Bayside to grab something to eat and then take a taxi to the airport.

Would it be "odd" to walk around Bayside with two pieces of luggage (24" and 19") for a few hours or take the luggage in a restaurant?

Would it also be safe to do that. This is early morning to early afternoon on a Friday. I have never really walked around anywhere with my luggage before other than to a parking garage across from a hotel or the airport.

Just trying to figure out what to do instead of hanging in the airport the whole time.

  19. Here is the info I got when I rented my car for next month:

PORT MIAMI SHUTTLE CRUISE SHIP - P2F

    89 SE 2ND STREET

    MIAMI, FL 33131 US

    hours Sun 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM; Mon - Fri 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Sat 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

    phone 305-377-4410

I just rented from Budget and googled that location-there doesn't seem to be anything there that says Budget. What are they near?

How was your experience with them?

  20. AT&T::: I foward all my calls to home, and leave my phone open for for text messages only. No cost to recieve texts( we have unlimited text messages) and 50 cents to send message home. I even taught my elderly mom how to text, so she can keep in touch with us. We always relax better when we know all is ok at home.

    Safe sailing

Did you have to sign up for the Global Messaging with AT&T before you left?

  21. Are you aware that you are responding to a post that started in 2005, was on hiatus until 2007 and was just restarted by you 7 years later. Why?

    DON

    I really don't know :o

and why is it in the middle of the Alaska thread?

editing post to say this comment is also located here where it belongs: (now that's really interesting)
