  1. anyone hear from NCL regarding the damage to Roatan port? Just read that it is closed to larger vessels. We are due to sail on Getaway May 6 and just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

RCC has cancelled their stops there.

We will be on the same ship and are wondering the same thing as this is one of our favorite ports

  2. We are in our mid 50's and have sailed with Carnival, Holland, Princess, Disney, NCL and RC. We haven't sailed with Carnival in years and Disney was only with grandson. Our preferred line is NCL followed by RCL. I'm getting bored with the Caribbean but hubby loves it so I thought it might be fun to try a new cruise line to mix things up a bit. We are very easy-going travelers, love freestyle dining and eating alone, love nightly shows in the theater, a little gambling and reading for hours on deck but in the shade. Gave up sun worshiping long ago. We don't drink much other than diet sodas and water. Not a fan of formal nights.

So, having said all that - what do you think? Would we like Celebrity? What should we know?

  3. Hoping someone can answer some of my questions as well. We are cruising on the NCL Escape in October and have the beverage plan. We are also in a balcony room. We are thinking that we might want to relax on the balcony and enjoy a couple of drinks. How do we do that? Do we have to find a lounge every time we want another drink? If that is the case, do we both have to be there to get 2 drinks on our plan or can one of us go and pick up 2 drinks? I hope it's not a stupid question but I haven't seen anything on these boards to help answer my questions. Thanks in advance!

Certainly not a stupid question! I have sailed on NCL before so I can answer this for you. The balconies are small, just chairs no loungers. Just want to make sure you are not disappointed in the size. Some lines the balconies are much larger but NCL and the newer ships run quite small. Anyway, yes, you'll have to go get the drinks and bring them back. And if you have both cards with you we have never had a problem getting the 2 drinks.

  4. Hi Everyone - We left NCL this year for RCL and we are back home at NCL where we belong! We just booked Escape for August but it looks like a few things have changed. Can you confirm?

[*]Room service is now a flat $7.95 plus tip (except continental breakfast)?

[*]The food outside by the pool is now ala carte?

[*]We are given a time slot now to board, meaning it is almost impossible to get a pass to Vibe if you aren't given an early time slot to board?

    Thanks for your help!

  5. We love meeting new people but I find trying to have a 2 hour meal for 7 nights with people I might have nothing in common with to be exhausting so we LOVE freestyle where we can eat by ourselves or with new friends we meet along the way.

We also have very stressful careers so we have no interest in dressing up on a cruise so NCL is perfect for us.

  6. Hi Everyone - Sailing in 2 weeks and cannot wait. This will be our first NCL cruise and we are really looking forward to not having a formal night and the other freestyle things about NCL. We have a balcony cabin on Deck 8. I do have a few questions though:

Does the bathroom have a make-up mirror? I'm pretty blind without my glasses so wondering if I need to pack a magnifying mirror.

Can I bring a tiny small fan with me? It's one of the little 4" inch fans that nail shops use on their stations. It can be a life saver after hubby takes a shower hot enough to melt metal and heats up the entire room.

What dining options are available on embarkation day other than the buffet?

Do you go outside for the muster drill? Do you wear your life jackets?

What time does walk off debarkation typically start?

How far is the dock from the Miami airport?

    Thanks everyone!!!

  7. It's the camera, and charger, and Kindle and charger, cell phone and charger, Ipod nano and charger, sunscreen, make up, face wash moisturizer, hair products, brushes, flat iron, jewelry, walking pharmacy, etc. That is the part that kills me, takes up so much room and weighs a ton. I transfer everything to small containers, etc. but it's still astounding how much "other" there is!
