  1. I've never understood why Royal Caribbean (and other cruise lines) won't compromise on Formal Nights. Many of the ships have multi-level dining rooms. On formal nights, why can't they designate one or two levels for formal and the remainder for casual? It could be a booking question and they would know exactly how many levels they would need for what. This way, everyone could peacefully enjoy their vacation. Has Royal Caribbean ever done a passenger poll to find out what their customers actually prefer?

  2. I am looking for a way to have children or others buy gift certificates to be used as OBC by their parents on a cruise coming up January 5th. The cruise has been paid in full. Royal Caribbean seems to have a very strictly controlled gift certificate policy that appears to make them difficult to use. Evidently, you have to use them ten days prior to the cruise. I guess you would have to mail them in but I'm not sure. You would think they would be like cash - take them to the customer service desk and have them applied to your onboard account. Is this correct and is there any better way to give folks a Christmas gift to be used on a cruise?

  3. We sailed on the LOS out of Galveston around January 29th 2017 and we definitely did book through the RCL website prior to the cruise. I just looked at the RCL shore excursion website for Falmouth, Jamaica and I didn't see it listed either. It is the most expensive way to book but it does have some benefits. If you're interested, you should call RCL. I believe it was called something like "Hilton Rose Hall."

  4. I can't comment on how you book. When we went in January, we booked through the ship. While I normally don't book shore excursions through the ship (too expensive) this time I did because I was a little concerned about personal security and getting back to the ship on time. After all that, we really enjoyed Hilton Rose Hall. It is beautiful place with flower gardens, beaches, pools, etc. We paid $50 for a cabana for four hours. It was right near the lazy river and someone brought drinks and food for you. No standing in line! When we go back to Jamaica, we will certainly go back to Rose Hall!

  5. Probably not directly on topic but just idle curiosity. I'm going to be on the Navigator in January, sailing out of Miami. I wonder how many differences there are, on the same ship, between sailing from England and sailing from the US? Do prices vary? Does the menu change? Does the beer and other drinks change? Any other differences?

  6. This is always a frustration of ours. My wife and I both use CPAP machines at night. You would think like any hotel room, there would be sockets by each side of the bed. It can't be a safety issue because they are willing to give you huge extension chords to use which, in addition to being electrical, are also a huge tripping hazard at night when you're walking around in the dark trying to not wake your wife.

  7. A 12oz can of soda is around $4. Premium coffees in tne $3 to $5 range, Fresh squeezed OJ around $4.

Thank-you, Clarea! Throw in some bottled water and the convenience of not having to sign a slip for each drink and I believe we'll get the Refreshment Package. Now we just have to wait and see if there is a sales price for it!

  8. Normally I book shore excursions online because they're less expensive, BUT, I have some concerns about safety in Jamaica, so I booked this through RCCL. Rose Hall Hilton is easy to book online and is much less expensive than doing it through RCCL.

  9. On our last Falmouth stop, we went to Rose Hall Hilton and it was wonderful! Beautiful gardens, relaxing lazy river and good enough food. It was very nice. I don't know if there's any connection but I just read that RCCL is pulling a few ships out of the Falmouth port because of various issues.

  10. My cruises on Navigator and Liberty during this past January and January 2016, the only time one server mentioned the survey was just to remind us to complete it. There was no request for any particular score. We stayed in a JS but I don't know if that made any difference. Sometimes these posts make it sound like it's nothing but continuous pleading for scores and that just hasn't been my experience.

  11. It would be nice if Royal Caribbean (and other cruise lines) had some more proactive interaction with its passengers and other potential customers. It could be done through Cruise Critic, FaceBook or even on its own website. Going through Cruise Critic, there are so many questions that are never really answered except through rumor and second or third-hand information. I'm sure they don't want to be nailed down and held to the answers given but, come on, even the President of the United States has a press secretary.

  12. We've been on a number of Royal Caribbean cruises. In the past, I recall the on-line Cruise Planner having Specialty Dining Options and Beverage Packages available for purchase many months in advance of the cruise. Currently, I am booked on the Navigator for a Jan. 5, 2018 cruise (280 days!) and neither are available. Yesterday, I was on the phone with Royal Caribbean Customer Service about something else and I asked when they would be available. The guy told me not until 90 days before the cruise date. I wonder if this is correct. Not to be rude, but he could barely speak English.
