  1. Yes, I was here early, if you call 1000 such. But not to board the ship until 1230 is unacceptable. Never have had this problem at Celebrity. Wanted to try something new, but I will be returning to my Elite status over there.

So many cruises and only three posts? If you had read the boards, or your roll call, you would know that Princess does not board the same way as Royal or Celebrity. 10:00 is too early for all three cruise lines and Princess is usually the latest to start the boarding...

I'll bet you are having FUN now...

  2. IMO, the best specialty dining experience is the Chef's Table. No more than 12 guests, 5 or 6 courses paired with wines, each presented by the chef with sommelier giving some info on the wines. Great dining experience, especially if Bento is the sommelier/server.

Chops is okay, but I can make a good steak any day of the week, and while Giovanni's is good it's no better than any Italian restaurant I can dine at here at home.

Had lunch at Izumi with a friend (DH is not into Asian/Fusion) and really enjoyed it. I'm sure I would have liked dinner too, but would not go without DH.

Chef's Table is the best in the fleet. The CT Dining Room is beautiful and Bento does a great job. Giovanni's Table has an excellent filet, IMO, it's better than Chops and less money.

The Chef's table is a GREAT value if you are a wine drinker....Bento is the best. He is the employee of the year and will soon be on vacation. After his vacation, he will be going to the Harmony.

  3. i just had a really bad customer service experience with RCL that totally made me rethink cruising with them....

    To the OP...

Before you jump ship (pun intended)

If you booked a few nights ago when the new itineraries (winter 2017/18) were first released there were a couple of issues with the web site. (nothing unusual for us Royal regulars)

    1. On many cabins there was a possible pricing error/good deal that was correct about 18 hours later. If you booked one of those cabins, you got a very SWEET deal. The price is now about $1000.00 HIGHER for the same cabin, so check your price before you cancel.

    2. I do understand your frustration, as a frequent cruiser I know it goes with the territory with ALL cruise lines (at one time or another), but I would gladly pay and extra $250.00 deposit to save $1,000 REAL dollars.

    3. So check your price before you jump.

    Hope this helps you!:):)

  4. I had iPad mini problems on the Serenade in January, for most of the cruise. My OS was up to date and as soon as I stepped off the ship into an internet cafe, all the problems disappeared. Once back on the ship, same old, same old...the internet on Serenade sucks with many Apple devices. Just the facts!

  5. Thanks so much for the tip, Bill! Snagged a hump JS just after midnight . Our first suite, my heart is singing! I love cruise critic.

However, on another thread people are talking about the possibility that Royal could cancel our rooms. Any experience with this?

Only time will tell, but make sure you put down the FULL down payment. Others are being told the 1/2 down payment deal will not apply to these sweet/Suit deals. Yet others are being told they will. I put down the FULL down payment.

  6. Hi Bill ~ I checked the pricing last evening as I wanted to add April 29/17 as a back part to the April 22 Harmony we are already booked on.

WOW $900 more for the same cabin I have on April 22 which I just happened to book opening day as well.

I will sit on that one for a bit.

We think alike...but at $900+ per person for the same Grand Suite, it is NOT going to happen!!!

  7. I could not get cabin 1100 on the serenade so I took js 1602. I could get cabin 1102 for 1,000 less . It is for 10 day cruise . should I stay in the more expensive junior suite or switch to 1102 for the price difference. Will I be sorry I did not stay with the bigger room and balcony regardless of the price ?

I have stayed in both cabins. Size does matter! In the JS will earn 20 points for the cruise, in 1102 you will earn only 10. Also, the JS has a full tub and walk-in closet, 1102 has neither. It is your money, but for the $1,000, I would stay in the JS!
