  1. I agree that Noro is easily spread at many places OTHER than cruise ships.  You just don't hear about it and make the connection, because people go in separate directions.  I'm very thankful that masks are not required any longer, by anyone.

I was on a 7 day cruise on the Sky at the end of January, my first after 5 years.

I am vaccinated and boosted, and had not had covid before.

I  felt a little off on Thursday afternoon day 6 of the cruise.

At that point I thought that I had gotten too much sun in Mexico, however, as the night progressed the i developed a cough and sore throat and felt sicker. My husband obtained a test from a friend the next morning and we both tested posative.

We did alert the medical center. They sent a team member up to check on us an to do their own test, which confirmed the posative result. We were advised to quarantine in the cabin and to call them if necessary, and to order room service for our means. We were able to order from the dining room menu.

Later on, a letter was slipped under the door indicating that each of us would receive a future cruise credit of $44.00 each, which would be applied to our Captain Circle accounts within 30 days.

The next morning was disembarkation day. We were allowed a room service breakfast because we could not go to the buffet...at 8:00 AM Princess security escorted us off the ship, and we were in our car driving home by 8:15.   Princess staff was professional and kind while this was going on.

Covid can be very serious for some people, however we were very lucky and recovered quickly without lasting issues.

We have a big anniversary cruise scheduled at the end of May, and considered cancelling, but have decided to go ahead, but plan to do more to mitigate the risk.

We only booked shore excursions  and hotels that are cancellable, just in case we need to quarantine again.

I reserved table for 2 for dining.  (We love meeting people, but on our last cruise 2 people at our table told us they had sore throats and didn't come to dinner one night, so we think we may have

    picked it up there)

We plan to mask in crowded areas as well as  tour busses and elevators and on the airplane.

    I

also selected a trip insurance policy that covers medivac, emergency medical care and reimbursement for quarantine hotel just in case we do get it again.

My big takeaway from the experience is that Covid might be less of a threat than previously, but it is not over quite yet.

I would think your natural immunity would be strong in May!  I hope you enjoy your anniversary cruise.

  3. I've only ordered a drink via the app a few times, and I figured the 18% included was enough.  I do order a pot of hot tea every night around 10 or so via room service and I tip them.  I love getting the hot tea in my room every night.  It's a big smack in the face with reality when I come home and have to put the water in the kennel, turn it on and make my own!

  4. We had our first mini bar on our April 1 cruise.  It was like reedprincess said "8 minis of booze, usually 2 each gin, vodka, scotch, and whiskey. 2 beers. 6 sodas. 2 still water. 2 sparkling water."   I called room service and had the regular sodas, sparkling water and still water all switched to Diet Coke.  It came up within an hour or so.

We are also on this sailing and our flight arrives in Miami at 9:20am. What will they do with people with princess transfers? Make us wait at the airport? Or take somewhere to kill a couple of hours?  Hopefully boarding will go smoother than boarding the Ruby in San Fransicso.  What a cluster.  2000 people trying to board all at once.  We walked down to fishermans wharf had lunch and killed a couple of hours.  Walked back and still waited in line for three hours to board.  I almost would prefer to cancel than deal with that again.

We boarded a few weeks ago and no issues.  I know that the cruise right behind ours had delayed boarding and I read that it went smoothly.  I will say that Ft Lauderdale boarding is WAY quicker, smoother and better than San Francisco!!!  They are very efficient.

You mentioned that those who like to imbibe at Good Spirits at Sea should invest in the Premium.  We sailed on the Discovery for 14 days last April and enjoyed Good Spirits every evening enjoying their post 530PM menu.  Are you saying that the Plus package would no longer cover these drinks?

I think that they were saying that they buy the premium drinks there, they may be $20/per drink?   If you are drinking regular cocktails/beer/wine probably the Plus would work just fine!  It did for us.  And you can get all of the coffee you want on the Plus, also.

  7. We were on her from April 1-8, where I think the Norovirus first occurred.   The precautions that Princess takes is exactly what any cruiseline would do.  I'm sorry you are not happy.   We had a wonderful cruise.  The cruise staff are doing everything that they can to manage the virus, but it is difficult when people won't wash their hands and touch things that they shouldn't.  I read a post about someone on the cruise before you that caught it, felt bad, still went to the buffet the next day, went back to bed because they still had diarrhea, and went many places the next day, while still having tummy issues.  THAT is the reason they can't stay ahead of this thing.

Well, if you believe any of the story then of course he was irresponsible and a leading contributor to any norovirus issues onboard.  Gee...

I didn't pick up any sarcasm in their post, although I do hope that was the case.  If they were trying to make a point about passengers being irresponsible, they missed the boat, in my opinion.

Just came back from Caribbean Princess this morning. I feel ripped off! After eating on Princess cay and dinner Sunday night went to bed. Woke up at 3:30 am with non stop diarrhea until 630 am. Fell back asleep till 9am and it started again till noon. Took an amodium tablet. At 1:45 got out bed vomit. Had told my bartender I hadn't vomit in almost 20 years. Went back to bed

At 5:30pm. I had to eat something went to the buffet had plain rice ,bread and mashed potatoes. Drank lots of water back to bed. Tues morning had milk and a doughnut back to bed. Got up at noon went to buffet had 2 chicken 🍗 and 2 rolls. Went to Outrigger bar to tell my bartender where I was. He was on break. Tried to drink a rum and coke but not into it. Went to buffet had some mashed potatoes and roast beef kept it down sill diarrhea. Back to bed. Finally Wednesday morning I felt about 90 percent better. But cruise now half over.

Why can't Princess fix this problem? They're the only cruises line has this happening so often.

I work in the food business and wash my hands constantly. I've been on over 100 cruises and have never spent a day in bed until now.

Other guest I spoke to told me they also got diarrhea from the food on Princess cay.

I will now be very careful what I eat when I sail Princess as don't think the crew handles the food properly.

I'm sorry, but this is EXACTLY how it spreads!  You were contagious and went to the buffet.  You were contagious and went to the bar.  You were contagious and went back to the buffet.  No matter how thoroughly Princess cleans, YOU were spreading the germs around the ship.

  10. We love snorkeling in Roatan.  We've done it a few times with Christopher Tours and we had them booked again this time.  We have told our BIL & SIL that we were traveling with, how great the snorkeling was and how it was our favorite snorkeling spot.  We were all disappointed we missed Roatan, but we totally understood.

We were up on 16 back the Terrace Pool eating breakfast when we were approaching Costa Maya and we saw The Ruby veer back out to sea.  We knew then that we would soon be following her!

  11. I can't remember who it was, but someone earlier that was upset with Princess for missing the ports and said that they would stick with RC from now on.....I just heard something interesting.

The Liberty of the Seas was supposed to go to two ports - Nassau and their private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.  With two sea days thrown in after embarkation day.  Well, after they set sail they announced that, due to the high winds they could not safely go to either port and they arranged to go to Labadie, Haiti, instead.  They changed it to one port day and all of the rest sea days.  They were not offering any compensation or OBC.

My point?  The weather can and will affect the cruise ships ability to get into port.  It is unusual, but it does happen to ALL of the cruiselines.  It isn't always the strength of the wind, sometimes it is the direction of the wind.

I was disappointed, because I had two excursions cancelled that I really wanted to do.  But, I wasn't upset with Princess and I really didn't feel that the OBC was necessary, but it was appreciated.

SD restaurants are never "booked solid" pre-cruise.  They always hold seats/times back for various reasons.

Well, it didn't work for us! LOL  But, a lot of people had booked with a promo that included a free specialty dining.   We seriously tried and couldn't get in

Once aboard, go to specialty dining venue and say; "when can you get us seats in your restaurant?"  Life magic, there will be a time available.

Not necessarily.   We had 2 recent cruises that The Crown Grill was booked solid before we got onboard.  We checked after we were onboard and we still couldn't get in.  We checked halfway through and it was still sold out.

We did get a table on our April 1 cruise, though.
