  1. For the benifit of others reading this thread , yes there are several different models in the Pride GoGo series of mobility scooters. However the models that http://www.Carevacations.com and http://www.SpecialNeedsatSea.com rent can be either the 3 wheel Pride GoGo Elite Traveler HD or the 3 wheel Pride GoGo Sport depending on the port of embarkation.

If KrusierKat purchased the 2 scooters new on the internet the model that was most likely purchased was the 3 wheel Pride Travel Pro which sells on-line for $599.00.

NO! it is the Shoprider Hero! Check it out.

  2. Medical evacuation back to the States can easily cost $50,000 +

You will need to be able to pay for your medical treatment and get reimbursed. Can you do that?

If you are to sick to cruise or break a leg leaving your house can you afford to loose the price of you airfare & cruise?

One of your parents or heaven help you a child of yours is in an accident and seriously ill. Can you afford to loose the cost of your air & cruise.

Are you sure your medical insurance will cover your broken leg from falling off a curb in Venice?

Your boss called and has cancelled everyone vacation, no exceptions!

Most medical insurance only covers inside the US. Call customer service at your Med Ins and double check.

    All things to think about!

Call Steve at "the trip insurance store" or the people at "insure my trip".

We insure thru Steve and also have an annual Medical Evac Policy at MedJet Assist.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

The only problem with Steve @ trip insurance store is that they do not handle pay with final payment policies such as Nationwide, etc. All their policies require payment up front! Insure my trip handles both types!

  3. To expand a little on jertoms's responses...

If you are a 4 star mariner (or above) one of your perks is laundry service at no extra cost. For the rest of us there is a self-service launderette and/or stuff a bag and/or sending individual items.

As it stands now, any visas that are necessary (at least for US citizens) will be obtained by HAL and the cost added to your onboard account. Very painless!

If you haven't done so, drop by and visit our very active roll call. This is proving to be a popular cruise with a fantastic itinerary.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2350261

Not all visas are provided by HAL! You will be responsible for China & India.

  4. We are booked for a 100 day World Cruise in 2018.

We live in Florida and when I read the small print at the bottom of the information sheet, one company stated that the insurance was for 60 day max for Florida residents.

I am certain that there are other Floridians on these boards who have taken World cruises and wondered with whom you might have insured.

We are booked with Cunard and the Cunard care only gives 50 K for medical evacuation. That might be good if you are in the Caribbean but if you have to return from China or Australia, it might not cover the cost.

    Thank you in advance.

Suggest you use Insure My Trip, which if you put in the parameters will give you all the applicable policies.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  5. Due to increased molbility issues involving my legs, I will probably need to use a mobility scooter in order to continue cruising. I am unfamiliar with this and could use some advice. Do people bring their own or is it better to rent a scooter in port cities. I'm sure everyone has different needs, but I could sure use some tips. Thanks.

There are a number of things to consider re rent v buy.

    How long is the cruise?

    Do you cruise often?

Do you need a scooter at home?

A scooter can be purchased for less than $600. We have 2 Shoprider Hero 3 wheelers. They have a very small turning radus. Take a look on the internet for specs & costs. Last I looked, Vitality Medical & Walgreens were low priced.

    ENJOY!!

  6. I did email Carnival and here was their response:

"We have noted your reservation, we will be able to accommodate you with foods with no sugar, flour, cheese, dairy, corn and potatoes. However, most of our meats are pre-marinated, but you can have our wild caught fish and produce.

Once you get onboard please speak to the Maitre'd and we will further assist you with meal preparations and with the lemon water."

I typically drink a smoothie either for breakfast or lunch that consists of plant-based protein powder, a shot of apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, almond milk, chia seeds, and a few frozen strawberries. I'm just going to bring my protein powder and I'm betting that they have all the rest of these ingredients - maybe not the chia seeds, but that will be okay. I also drink at least one glass of lemon water a day (natural detox).

I'm not too keen on fish, so I will probably go ahead and eat some of the meats on the menu. Marinades shouldn't bother me and I can't imagine there's too many bad things in it (except sugar?).

I can't wait to try Guy's Burger Joint. I will just have to ask them to serve it without a bun and double check what seasonings they use in the meat.

I have looked at the ship's menus and it looks like there's something I can have at every meal in the dining room. Bumming that they don't offer King Crab Legs!! They have shrimp, so I may be able to order plain grilled shrimp?

Salad dressings might be an issue, so I'll probably stick more with steamed veggies.

My bigger concern is when we're off the ship. I think I will just bulk up in the morning on eggs and then check with the Maitre'd to see if I can take a cup of almonds with me to snack on during the day.

Well, I feel for you, as I know how difficult such a restricted diet is, especially on trips like this. I would say if you have an even more specific dietary need, go ahead and email Carnival.

    Happy Sailing!

Many ports will not allow food to be taken off ship. Check before you do so!

  7. Some years ago on a group tour to Petra, we hired a horse and carriage. The driver sat with us and drove the horse at full speed on the rocks to the Treasury at the bottom. I don't know how the horse felt about it, but it scared the s**t out of me! You can sit there and view the Treasury.

Never saw any donkeys for tours any further in. There was a camel, but some handlers will add an extra charge to have the beast kneel so you may dismount.

    BEWARE!

You must then wait for the return trip. As you may imagine the driver has very little incentive to take you as he has already been paid. A further tip may be required.

The view of the Treasury was spectacular! Getting in and out of the carriage may be difficult. If you can handle the carriage and the walk to and from it, it may be worthwhile. As for myself, I'd much rather having done it than having to look forward to it!!!

  8. Though you have provided good information the post that you replied to goes back to March 2015 . Additionally the OP states in their post that their cruise was for the Golden Princess out of San Fransisco to Alaska on 7/21/2015.

    Never mind!

  9. I lost my left leg a couple of years ago and now that I am very mobile again, my wife and I want to do some traveling. This summer we are taking the Golden Princess out of San Fransisco to Alaska, 7/21/2015. We want to go a couple of days early and stay in San Fransisco. We have done a little traveling last year but were not overly happy with the Hotel's disabled facilities. What I am looking for is a folding bath / shower stool with a carrying bag. I have looked out on the net and found a number of shower stools but nothing with a bag. If someone has been able to find one I would greatly appreciate it if they could point me in the right direction. We did not get a handicap room as I don't need one. I just can't get the leg wet.

    Much Thanks,

    The One Legged Pirate

Amazon has a shower stool with bag for $40.99. Look under "shower stool with bag" and you'll see it. GOOD LUCK!!!

  10. I will have to start bringing a scooter on board ship now. I will have a Go Go Ultra that is 20.5 width. I was wondering though how wide are the halls that are on the cabin floors. I didn't think to measure that when we were on our cruise in Jan. I have tried searching for the information but can't come up with a number. Can anyone help?

I want to be able to manage to get into a "room" before I go so thought I would see if my scooter would be able to make the turn and get into the cabin.

    tigercat

It sounds as if you haven't purchased a scooter as yet. If, as you say, $ are an issue you might consider a Shoprider Hero. It sells for well under $600, while the GO GO ULTRA is $800 plus. Check out the specs on the Hero. I know Walgreen's price is $579 and others are in that range. Enjoy your trip!

  11. My Mom can walk short distances, but not very far. For our last two cruises, I've used airport agents and cruise ship stewards with wheelchairs to get us to our cabin, where a rented wheelchair was waiting. This time I think I'd rather take our own wheelchair so we'll have it to walk from the Pan Pacific to Canada Place and so I can wheel Mom to dinner in Vancouver the night before our cruise. So I have two questions:

    1. Can any of you recommend a lightweight, not too expensive wheelchair? I have spent some time in a wheelchair and know I want the traditional two big back wheel design, not a transport chair.

    2. Even if we are using our own chair, may I ask for assistance pushing Mom at the airport and cruise terminal? (I know to tip.) I think it might be wise to save my strength for the times assistance is not available. Is that tacky?

    Thanks for your help.

    Vicki

I recently purchased a Shoprider Hero mobility scooter. This would enable your Mom to be self-sufficient in that you would not have to push. Price is $579 at

Walgreens and even cheaper elsewhere. It's only 20" wide so its easy to use. Take a look at the specs!

  12. I have been looking at the repo cruise from Tampa to Baltimore.

We cruise on Carnival & both have GOGO Scooters.

But have never flown with them. How does the whole thing work? Do they take them at check in? Will they be waiting for us at the gate when we land?

I'm so nervous about this but we really want to do this cruise because it goes to the canal.

Anyone out there that can give us details. We fly SW.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Char :)

Usually you are asked to drive the scooter to the gate and then to the plane. At that point the staff takes the scooter and puts it in the hold. After arrival you are usually asked to remain on board until everyone is off and then you deplane and get your scooter right outside the door so that you can drive it to baggage claim.

    DON'T WORRY!!!

  13. Will soon be sailing on the Star Princess and will be requiring a mobility scooter for the first time. I was wondering if you prefer to rent or bring your own mobility scooter. I have found a reasonably priced one on the web, which would basically pay for itself after renting one on 2 cruises.

Also, the one I'm considering purchasing (a 3-wheel) is 22" at it's widest point, basically between the two rear tires. We're not in an accessible cabin, so was concerned about door clearance. Could not locate anything on Princess' website, so called Princess and was told the standard door clearance for a mini-suite is 24", so it should fit through, right ?

Best rental quote I found was from "Special Needs at Sea" and the scooter will be waiting for me in my stateroom when I embark. Any thoughts or suggestions.

    Thanks to all who reply.

I would strongly recommend the Shoprider Hero. Look at the specs-it's only 20" wide. Best price I found was Vitality Medical (special price $571) or Walgreens-$579. Take a look!
