Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Easy walk - maybe 5-10 min, all flat ground. Not overly busy and lots of people were coming and going to Canada Place with their luggage! We had one suitcase and one carry on - very manageable. I would definitely do it again!
  2. Just completed a 10 day Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver with Princess and I'll agree the terminal there is set up oddly with a lot of back tracking. We arrived VERY early as we fly in day of, arriving at 8 am. We took the Skytrain to the port and were there by 9:30 am. They were still disembarking passengers, so there were a LOT of people and a lot of lines of people not knowing which line they should be in...and staff not knowing either. We were in one line waiting to drop off our luggage since we just walked over. Staff there changed their minds three times saying where the actual start of the line was it actually became comical. Many people too didn't have their luggage tags so that added to the wait. Fortunately we did have our tags so dropped off the luggage on the first floor, then you had to go up to the second floor to check in with Princess, then back down to the main floor in order to clear customs. US customs was fast as they use the terminals where you scan your passport and fill the form online and you get a print out. Then went to the last stop where is where we would be able to board. The ship that docked that morning must have arrived late as we were told by 10:30 am they were still cleaning the ship and we would have to wait. So we got moved twice into "sit and wait" areas. By 11 am we allowed to board! With all the walking around from one end of the terminal to another and one floor to another, I probably clocked 5,000 steps 🤣 - as they say "there must be a better way!"
  3. Had an unexpected surprise during our 10-day Alaska trip (June 13-June 23). I have used the laundry facilities with Princess many times and am familiar with the set up for purchasing tokens. I was in the laundry room and purchase $12 in tokens to do two loads of laundry, and two loads in the dryer. I had my first load in, and was about to do my second when another passenger saw me and said "oh you don't need tokens any more, its free!" and she got me to remove my token. Sure enough, the machine worked without it and so did the dryers! The only thing you needed tokens for was to buy laundry detergent or fabric softener (which I brought from home). The odd thing is, some passengers knew about this , but many did not. Those of us in the laundry room kept stopping people from buying tokens and helped spread the news. I was a tad miffed that I now just spent $12 US for nothing and there is no signage in the laundry room or in your cabin saying the machines are free. I used the chat function on the Medallion App to request a refund and I was advised to go to Guest Services. I headed over the next day and there was no problem getting the charge off my account. Just wanted to get the word out to any of you travelling on the Crown - curious if this is happening on other ships as well?
  4. We disembarked the Crown Princess June 23 and had a 11:30 am domestic flight back home to Edmonton, Alberta. There was one other ship disembarking that morning. I'll admit I was nervous if this was doable to catch this flight but my optimistic husband said we would be fine😀 . I'm pleased to confirm everything went smoothly! Here's what we did: We chose the walk-off option. We were given "Group C" which meant meet at the Explorer's Lounge at 8:05. There were two groups ahead of us with meeting times of 7:45 and 7:55. However when we arrived at 7:50, there was just one general line and no one was asking which group you were in, so we just joined the line. Line started moving just before 8 am. Canadian Customs was quick - line kept moving and we handed in our declaration card and by 8:09 we were outside, street level in from on Canada Place Terminal. Walked to Waterfront Station, bought our tickets (note: tickets were noticeable cheaper on the return leg since the Vancouver airport adds a tax on the tickets when travelling from YVR to Waterfront (so we were told by a staff member in the station helping out). Skytrain is the way to go in terms of ease of use and cheaper than a taxi if you are ok with managing your own luggage (we had one suitcase and one carryon). We were at the airport, checked in, luggage dropped off and in the departure lounge by 9:10 am. Our flight didn't board until 10:50 am. I had even pre-booked our security spot for 9:45 am which we didn't need to use as we got there much earlier than I expected. Security line took about 10-15 minutes. Just wanted to share as I know this topic comes up now and again. I can't speak for how smoothly this would go if you were returning to the US or flying international.
  5. I too have a 11:30 am flight on the day of disembarkation; plan to do self-disembark, SkyTrain to airport. Flight is domestic to Edmonton. According to Port of Vancouver website, you are clearing Canadian Customs when you disembark.
