But never the less the ride and view regardless of weather is amazing and really worth it -

If offered as a combo deal with another excursion i.e. Mendenhall & Tram check out the

value in that - - - Don't quibble over the few dollar difference between advance purchase

and other methods of timely purchase - perhaps the best way is buy the ticket when you

    are ready to ride !

Plan on at least two ride cycles while at the top - more for the hiking excursions.

Thanks, we're planning on going up regardless of the weather.  We missed it last time we were there.

If you can book that tour directly with the provider, DO SO.  So many complaints on the TripAdvisor boards about lack of communication with providers and no customer service.

Always book direct in case there are weather or other issues that require a tour provider to get in touch with you.  Putting any middleman in between means you have a real chance of a message not getting through and a day being wasted.  Plus middlemen make money off of this, too, so you usually save booking direct

Thank you I always try to book direct even if I've looked them up elsewhere.

What day of the week will you be going into Manhattan? If it's a weekday I'd suggest booking your tour for no earlier than 10 am so you can avoid the height of rush hour traffic. Traffic can be heavy and unpredictable at any time so you have to build a time cushion into your travel planning.

What type of tour are you considering? You mentioned mobility issues, so is this a bus tour? Frankly, Manhattan is a place best seen on foot. On a bus you'll be spending lots of time sitting in traffic looking up at buildings.

Our full day will be Wednesday May 17.  The tours I have looked at are mini busses open top or closed that meet in midtown. The itinerary does have several stops that range form 10 min to 30 min. I think we will be fine if we get to get out several times.  There is a 10am time slot which would be perfect for us how long should we factor in for a Uber or Lyft?

Uber or Lyft . Or the car services Carmel LImo or Dial 7 .

Very, very unlikely for any NY City tours to pick up at hotel in Elizabeth, NJ. I'd say absolutely not, but then someone will tell me there was such a tour in 2002 and insist there might still be one 20 years later.

FYI, the name of the cruise port is Cape Liberty, not Port Liberty . The only reason I mention that there is an area of nearby Jersey City called Port Liberte so if you asked a taxi to take to you Port Liberty you might end up in the wrong place.

Thank you. Does the plan to meet a tour in NY at 9 or 10am from maybe Embassy hotel sound doable?

  5. I know I read this on one of these threads but I cannot find it. We'll be staying near Port Liberty and will have one full day to explore New York. We're seniors one with limited mobility, can walk 20-30 minutes but not all day. I need to be sure we can get someone to take us to NY to the meeting place of most of these tours.  Or do any of the hotels near Port Liberty on International have tours right out of their hotel? Please help before I book my airfare.

I’m a new poster on CC, but followed closely as we led up to our 5/30 sailing, specifically to have my covid related questions/concerns answered. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. Our family of 4 is home now with 1 positive case and 3 negatives. The rest of us are retesting this afternoon. Thankfully my husband’s case is mild, like a cold.

We masked in crowded areas such as the Windjammer and in terminals and avoided elevators when possible. I wish we had worn N-95’s. One tip I do have  for the main dining room…request a table by the window. Our first night (MDR on deck 4) we were at a centrally located table surrounded by others (including a cougher). I felt like the tables were too close together and was very uncomfortable. We had requested a window table when we boarded and were given a window table in the MDR on deck 3 for nights 2-7. This dining room felt more spacious and I was much more comfortable with the setup being against the window.

OP, great review of the ship! I would have loved following along before our cruise. Great details and info!

Did you have Traditional or My Time Dining? What was the name of the fining room on deck 3?

Usually as fast as you can walk. It is either facial recognition (smile at the camera until you get a green light) or a quick flash of your passport to a CBP officer. The slow part is getting off the ship (often slowed by those who “know better” and try to carry their own luggage off the ship, bumping and stumbling all the way down the ship’s halls, gangway, and terminal).

Just to clarify I meant in Victoria for our excursion at 6:15

  8. Is it better to buy the ticket through the RCL cruise planner, when we get on the ship or at the tram? Someone posted they were glad they pre purchased their ticket because when they got there, there was a long line.  If it matters we will be going up rain, fog or shine.  Missed it last time not going to miss it this time.

Lorey, Think about doing Chihuly the same day as Needle and Mopop since they are so close and doing PPM, aquarium and harbor cruise the same day since they are close. If you have to skip any of these don't miss Chihuly and PPM. sightcrr

I'll have to rethink that. I just didn't want to do too much on the day we get off the ship. We can drop our luggage & have the PPP food tour booked for 10:30 since our hotel check in isn't until 3:00. I also have to make reservations with the CityPass for some of the places.

After the quilts we went next door to Klondike Doughboy.  While preparing for this cruise I heard it was a must try.

A Doughboy is like a flat funnel cake. You can see them being made.

We saw how big they were so we decided to spit it between the 4 of us.

That was a big mistake to split it.   These things are sooooo good.   Do not skip getting one....or two.  Do NOT share.

When you are in Victoria I heard you have to try a beavertail at the Beavertail store downtown.
