  1. I understand that ship time is all that matters to cruisers, but island time is important to islanders. Since the excursion that I am looking at is private, I'm trying to get the timing straight before I go to the effort of booking the excursion. Here is the situation: ship arrives at 12 noon SHIP time. I am to meet the guide at 12:30 - I believe island time. So if 12 noon ship time is 1:00 island time, this won't work. I know I can just book an excursion with RCI, but their offerings are less appealing.

  2. I posted this on the St Thomas forum but got no answers. I'll be on Freedom in March 2016 before the clocks spring forward for daylight savings time. Florida wil be on Eastern Standard time and St Thomas will be on Atlantic Standard time. If the ship is due in port at 12 noon, will that be 1:00 on the island? Trying to plan an excursion and I just keep confusing myself. Thanks.

  3. So if I'm on the beach I'll be able to see them almost as well as if I were on the boat? When you went, were you apprehensive at all before going? I wasn't sure about ziplining, but I enjoyed it once I was out there. Do you think parasailing would be the same? Thanks.

  4. When Freedom leaves Port Canaveral next March 6th, Florida will be on EST. When she arrives at St Thomas, the island will be on AST. So if it is 12:00 on the ship, will it be 1:00 on the island? I'm trying to plan a private excursion and I keep confusing myself. :o Thanks. And will if be the same for St Maartin, also on AST?

  5.

I tested positive for pecans, and the doctor told me years ago to avoid walnuts too, but no mention of tree nuts. But now the physician assistant without testing me wants me to avoid any tree nuts. Never had a reaction to anything but pecans, and that was minor.

Pecans and walnuts are both tree nuts. The term tree nuts is used to differentiate them from peanuts, which are legumes.

Love your screen name by the way. :D

  6. The treatment for pertussis is for the symptoms - any coughing or wheezing may respond to an inhaled bronchodilator while your immune system gets rid of the infection. Antibiotics are given to prevent the spread of the infection to others, especially infants who aren't fully immunized. Immunity after the immunization does wane with time, which is why a booster at age 11 is recommended. The vaccine is also recommended for any adult who comes in contact with infants.

  7. RCCL offers an excursion at the end of the cruise. It leaves from Port Canaveral, stops for an airboat ride and ends at the Orlando airport. I've found one favorable review and one mention that the excursion was cancelled due to lack of interest. If it gets cancelled, what should I have planned as my "plan B"? There will be four adults, 4 carryons and 2 or 3 large suitcases that will need transportation. Thanks for the suggestions.

  8. Trying to keep this a surprise as long as I can. We will be cross packing, so having all of the bags go to one cabin won't be a problem - we have to rearrange anyway. We'll be staying in a hotel the night before - that's when the airline tags come off and the cruise tags go on. It's kind of a ritual for me. It means we are one step closer to actually getting on the ship.:)

  9. My family and I are sailing on Freedom next March over Spring Break. They all know about the cruise, but don't know that I booked connecting balconies. Can I put luggage tags for one cabin on all of the luggage? That way, the earliest they'll find out about having two cabins is at check-in, and they won't know about the balconies until we open the doors.:D

  10. If you've never used a medicine for sea sickness, try a dose sometime before you leave when you can afford to deal with any side effects. Drowsiness is one of the more common side effects, and if you are particularly sensitive to the medication, you may need to adjust the dose or change medications so that you don't miss out on anything. If the medication is once a day, start it the day before you think you might get car sick/sea sick. If it is twice a day, start it 12 to 24 hours before you'll need it. Any earlier and your body will have eliminated it before it was even needed.

  11. I did some flight searches and it turns out that Orlando (MCO) is the least expensive from East Lansing. If I fly out of an airport less than two hours from State College, rather than from State College, it's also the cheapest option. So, it looks like the easiest option will be the best option. Now I have to find something else to research - hotels in Orlando, I think.:D

  12. My family and I will be flying to Florida in March for a cruise out of Port Canaveral. One from East Lansing, Michigan, one from State College, Pennsylvania and two from either Kalamazoo, Michigan or East Lansing or State College. What are the best options for flying in? We will probably rent a car, so some driving won't be a problem. We plan to fly in the day before the ship sails. Thanks

  13. I'm in the same situation for next March. Looking at two stops - Buck Island and Water Island/Honeymoon Beach - on Virgin Breeze vs. Buck Island two-stop - over a shipwreck on a catamaran. Cost is the same. The first option is listed as 4 hours long; the second is 3.25 hours but specifies 1 1/2 hours of snorkeling. I may just flip a coin.:p

  14. The issue with traveling with children with only one parent has nothing to do with whether or not the parent is married - it has to do with custody and kidnapping. The notarized letter from the non-traveling parent is needed as proof that they know that the child is leaving the country. I've been told that some countries won't let you enter without that proof. I've never been asked for it, but I never travel without documention if the father of my children isn't with us. FWIW, he is my husband.
