Thanks very much. Fortunately I’m not the one paying $7k for their cruise. DS and DiIL are. They decided that with pre-existing they’d get partial or zero with insurance depending on how close to departure should he have another CVA. I suggested keeping it for med evac alone but it’s their choice. I shudder at the thought of a DVT taking a 3 hour flight prior. I just want to be able to enjoy my cruise without being shackled. He’s fortunate the kids are MDs. They’ve urged him to back off on this but it’s not going to happen- he’s demanding and they can’t say no. Sure appreciate your care and concern😀

Sorry to rant a little but the OP has ranted as well about this.

Let's address your DS & DIL, as you stated are both physicians, who are being super selfish not accepting the legitimate risks for another CVA and the collateral damage if another happens on the cruise......   you stated there's a 40% risk of another stroke in the first year and their selfishness could possibly subject innocent passengers, including children, to witness a medical emergency..... strokes are super scary if you've ever seen one.

What a wonderful thing that TWO physicians would take a relative, AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE, and potentially impact a child with nightmares witnessing a stroke..... not to mention the delay to air lift him from the ship thus disrupting 3,000 other passengers and maybe missing excursions or ports because they can't say "no to daddy"

IMHO: I think spitting in the sink is less disgusting than 2 physicians consciously allowing this trip to happen.

I'm saying that people in the profession are a special breed, with incredible compassion, and will instinctively help, very different from your Auto Tech or IT person. I agree that boundaries should be set and honored.

I will strongly disagree with your statement about "the profession" and the OP's multiple threads and posts will back me up.......  she's been giving very specific details about her son's in-laws and how she's trying to avoid even having dinner with them. If "the profession" was so compassionate she and her husband would be welcoming the cruise to help the "disabled" have a wonderful cruise.

I know plenty of nurses and I would rather have an auto tech or IT person attend to me medically than some of them.

That's what I thought but OP didn't specify if they were #3 or if all cancelled.  I'm in a similar medication change scenario and it's just 2 in the stateroom.

Just to follow up / confirm...... I called CAS today concerning PBP promo: cancel passenger #1 or #2 then both get cancelled, cancel #3 then no one else is impacted ....... the OP must have moved herself to #3 to keep #1 & #2 intact.

IMO, get ready for it, you will be stuck attending to this man more than you would like. You and your husband are both professionals in the field that this man needs, which to me means, your instinct to help will kick in. Think about it, someone needs help and yells "Is there a doctor in the house", you know a doctor isn't going to ignore the call. People in your profession are a special breed in my eyes, and just can't turn thier back on someone in need.

would you assume your friend the mechanic is responsible for your car if it breaks down or the IT brother in law to come running if your laptop crashes or the financial consultant cousin to set up you're retirement plan or maybe you're an awesome baker does that mean you're on the hook for every celebration to make the cake.....  no one should be stuck doing anything just because they have a skill set that someone else doesn't.

Boundaries and expectations should always be discussed and honored.  If you don't stand up and say "no" thus enabling the behavior of others to expect your role then that is on you.

It's one thing in an emergency situation but not to be someone's personal valet and attendent on a vacation.

I think your post is heartless, lacking empathy.....IMHO, of course!😉

I have complete empathy, compassion, and understanding on how one can get locked into plans .....  however, there is a point that someone (and usually me in real life as well) needs to say exactly what everyone is thinking or too nice to say it.  The OP has described how horrendous and disgusting the father of the DIL is and has posted some pretty aggressive details about him across several threads....  so, with those details across multiple threads it was time someone just said it..... not to mention many other posters are saying the same thing (but maybe much less direct).

IMHO, of course!  I am actually questioning if the cruise is real and the OP is just trolling the board with a crazy scenario.

Promotion is for passengers 1 and 2. Cancel means neither get package. Third passenger would pay for the package. No one in the cabin has the package now. They can pay for beverages as ordered.

  7. Yes, you may make reservations and not attend as a no show without issue. There's your answer plain and simple.

But because you're making reservations and being a no show...... you could very easily impact another innocent passenger who wanted to dine at the time of your no show but couldn't.

Put your big girl pants on and tell your DS / DIL you're making your own plans..... this is your 3rd or 4th thread concerning your Nepalese issue. According to those threads your "DS knows and your DIL has a whiff" of your hatred of her father so why pretend.

Oh save us the performative wokeness. The epicenter of the outbreak is in Wuhan, China. There's a reason there are travel restrictions for people leaving from China right now and not Argentina.

You missed my point completely.....  but happy cruising

There's no real risk (yet), but lets face it lots of cruisers are...to put it politely..."low-information voters." I can see some ugly situations developing on a cruise with a large Chinese tour group as is often the case...someone sees someone coughing or sneezing...and then you get panic.

Let's be careful and not use examples targeting one ethnicity or another.... because there are 5 confirmed cases right here in America and they aren't Chinese......   those "low-vote information voters" may take an example as fact......

Called today to cancel the drinks package which was a good thing.  I had already got a price reduction and either NCL or my travel agency had made an error in calculations then.  There are three of us traveling together so we divide the cost by three.  When final payment rolled around,  two of us paid our balance.  When I checked the reservation a few days later, it showed we were paid in full.  Then I talked to my sister and she had not paid her $267 final payment.  Seems an error was made when we got the price reduction.  Canceling the beverage package gave us a $10 refund.   I'm not concerned about who made the error but glad it got straighten out now instead of later.

When you cancelled it for you, were the other 2 able to keep the promo without issue? Thx

  11. Looks like the OP has her answer concerning on board booking of Shore Excursions.... ShoreEx Desk, app, TV, and kiosk.

She's made it crystal clear she completely understands everything else so why are people continuing to interpret, guess or assist anymore?  BTW, all great advice that has been dismissed.

    asking for a friend...

Thanks very much. We have it all figured out and I’m happy. Everybody’s happy.

Thanks for your thoughtful contribution tho. 😀

If you paid attention.... my post that you quoted..... was actually referencing someone who entered the thread at post 42 obviously not reading the previous 41.   The typical person who shows up late to a meeting and asks questions that were already answered.... effectively duplicating everyone's efforts by reviewing things again.

But since you engaged me and my thoughtful contribution ..... I wonder how your DS / DIL or even worse the gentleman who you venmously can't stand would feel if they happened upon Cruise Critic to explore their own ideas and came across your detailed complaints. 👍 👍

    I have several questions.

When was the last time this man traveled?

Has he ever been on a cruise?
Have your son and daughter-in-law ever cruised before?

Who is paying for your son and daughter-in-law’s Cruise?

    Who invited the father?

These questions may have already been answered. If so I apologize.

From what little I know, I think this problem is your son and daughter-in-law’s problem.

This will be a learning experience for what is yet to come with this man’s health problems. Some very serious decisions will have to be made.

Our onboard upgrade occurred prior to the advent of the online upgrading offers--September 2013 on the Breakaway to Bermuda from New York.

I'm curious as to what you've heard concerning the discontinuation of onboard upgrading.  Does the crew use the online system to fill cabins for same day cancellations/no shows?

They now make an announcement and a sign at Guest Services stating no upgrades are available.....   I'm sure it still happens but it's like a unicorn....... people claim it happens but no one ever sees it. 🦄

the sdp terms and conditions no longer say unlimited appetizers like they did a couple of years ago, probably because people were abusing it.

now the waiter says you're limited to 2 apps and 2 sides with sdp.

so i guess if the poster wanted to order 10 apps, he'll get charged for the difference. (note: i've ordered 3 or 4 sides multiple times at Cagney's and was never charged for the difference.)

as for 'To go', they allow it for dessert.

The T&Cs specifically say "1 entree" for Cagney's, LeBistro, La Cantina for example..... but ommit any reference to the number of apps, sides, or desserts thus the ability to order the number I referenced. Some waitstaff will try to limit these but back down when you present the T&Cs.

The absurd number I used in my example was just to point out that you can't really share food (people do but can be enforced by waitstaff)

  16. 18 minutes ago, Love my butler said:

Nope, it aint.  Once food is placed on the table I can whatever I wish with it.  The waiter has absolutely no business or concern.  At that point, it is mine.  No different than if I got it all to go and took it to my room.  Will the waiter follow me and watch what I do with it or who eats it?

Disagree. You can't have a family of 6 at the table and have one person with the SDP order 10 apps, 15 sides, 1 entree, and 15 desserts to share among everyone.

Unless things have changed or I missed it......... "to go" is not available.

Same idea as the PBP. You are allowed 2 drinks per transaction...... once you walk away those drinks are still under the rules of the T&Cs. If you give one to someone without the package you can have the package terminated.

We are sailing on the Star this summer to Le Havre, Edinburgh (South Queensferry), Geiranger Norway, Akureryi Iceland, Reykjavik Iceland, Belfast, and Dublin.  Is there some way to know which of these ports require a tender?  It's not listed on the itinerary as far as I can see, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?

Google search "NCL Tender Ports" had this as it's first return. ☺
