  1. If one cancels using  Princess cruise with confidence...do you receive the princess protection monies as a FCC.  Anyone know?  Having trouble reaching princess to cancel our February cruise.  Suggestions on how to do that will be appreciated.

I was the first new passenger to board the beautiful Caribbean Princess this morning. It's great to be back. I flew down on a direct Southwest flight from Raleigh-Durham. It landed in Fort Lauderdale a little before 10. I was at the port around 10:30. The cab ride was $17.15 before tip. Checkin was a breeze. There was no line for security. Someone checked my vaccination card and passport, then another person scanned my carry-on luggage. He alerted the wine table that I had my one bottle of wine, and they asked to see it. (I guess to make sure it really was wine.)

Princess did not send me my medallion before the cruise. I received the message back in October that it was too close to the cruise to send it to me. But that was no problem. It was easy to pick it up at the desk. After picking it up, I made it to the Elite boarding lounge. One of the employees tried to get me to sit down in the boarding groups, but I found another one who directed me to the right place. They had coffee, teas, water, and pastries in the lounge. I had to wait about 20 minutes there before a supervisor told us it was time to board. I tried to let a couple of couples go ahead of me, but one of the women insisted I go first. The security person wasn't ready for us, and the supervisor had to come tell her it was OK to let us on. The supervisor also told her that they needed at least three security stations to scan in the new passengers instead of just one.

Several employees were there to greet us as we came on the ship with applause. I walked up the stairs to my Caribe Deck inside cabin. It's a standard inside cabin. My minibar setup was ready for me. My cabin steward introduced himself. I let him know I'd like to trade out my liquor for beer and soda for water. I had the regular assortment of liquors this time (unlike in Alaska when it was all vodka mini bottles). I did receive 1-liter bottles of tonic water and club soda instead of cans of tonic water and bottles of Perrier.

There were two noticed about the excursions I booked in Cozumel and Costa Maya. The one in Cozumel has changed times. I knew it probably would since the ship is scheduled to leave before it would have returned. But it's gone from a 1:00 afternoon to an 8:30 morning meeting time. I have time to make up my mind about going on it. The one in Costa Maya has been canceled.

Almost time for lunch in the dining room. There's not a paper copy of the Patter in my cabin, just three notices about health and a couple of handouts about making specialty restaurant and spa reservations and another about watching the safety video.

The mini bar.  This will be our first cruise with that entitlement.   Can we change for a coffee card and beer? Or wine?   What's the deal?  Thanks so much as we're confused.

Once again I wish to report that this Celebrity cruise has had the most friendly staff and best wait staff on any of our cruises during the past 45 years!

Dear RB.  We are elite plus...have there been any wine tastings or special activities for E or E+??  What about high tea..or low tea.. 😋

One interesting thing about Oceanview Cafe. All items are served to you except; when you go to salad bar you let the server know what you wish to have and after it is completed the server gives you the salad bowl. Then you self serve the salad dressings in the typical containers. Now how is that sanitary.

Now that is crazy..the dressing part.  When will they learn? We recall that Buffet tongs always made us cringe.

Curious what you did in Curacao.  We have an overnight there in April on Equinox - they cancelled B of the ABC's much to my dislike...

Our cruise is only 60% full; 1600 passengers. I would expect this will be last cruise that Deck 6 is used to quarantine

Back when we were frequent cruisers, we found some of the ships were very chilly in the common areas.  We remember freezing on the Edge.  That being said, how is the Equinox especially in the evening.  Would be good to know from a clothes packing standpoint.  Thanks.

Thanks! I’m glad you were able to tag along! We definitely have had fun cruising again on this wonderful ship and to be honest, we’re glad we did it now rather than waiting until our Nov cruise on the Apex. We wish we could always sail on ships that were around 40% of capacity, but we know one day they will ramp back up once the pandemic is in everyone’s rearview mirror. But it definitely has created some memories we will not soon forget, to include some we haven’t mentioned.

Like wondering why an older couple was allowed to have a pair of Yorkshire Terrier “service dogs” onboard the last 2 legs that were at most 15” long, 9” high and on Chic night were paraded around on their leashes near the Martini Bar in tuxedos! We also saw them earlier in a baby stroller. We eventually came up with a theory as to why they were even allowed to be on the ship, but they definitely made for great conversation with the crew. 😎

Perhaps those same owners and Yorkies were with us on a transatlantic 3 years ago.    It was a riot...they even went on some excursions.   Guess we will never know.

Yes, it was Celebrity.  Called “Coastal Cruise to the Pitons”.  You see only the coastline including, of course, the Pitons.  But,  it was a totally relaxing experience…great music on the boat, very nice crew, rum punch or soda was included and Piton beer was for sale.  Nice day.

Did you have to get off the catamaran?  Or could one just stay on?  Did the cat leave from near the ship?  I'm asking because my husband has some walking difficulty.   Thanks.

  8. Our first cruise was in 1989 on the Britannis.  The letter X on Celebrity ships pays homage to Chandris...from which Celebrity was born.  Britannis was a Chandris ship and the food was magnificent.  Fun to reminisce.

Hi - I see that there are no steps going down into the main part of the pool. Looks like 3 ladders. Can you tell us how those work for older people or heavier people? Just cannot believe there is not a set of steps but I am told there is not.

How about the solarium pool...that could work.

Yes Costa Maya—they do have a shuttle.

I have not needed my sweater so far.

You are so kind to reply.  So so happy that there is now a shuttle for the costa maya port and that the ship is comfortable.   Honestly I was having second thoughts about our august 7th sailing.
