  1. VirginialsForCruise, thank you for the information on San Juan's streets!

I went and bought a fold up cane that I can carry in the basket.  It also has the 3 toed foot, but still folds up.

Were you able to pick up your scooter prior to boarding?  If not, how did you get on board?  If they took you on board in a wheelchair, did you go to right your cabin to get the scooter or if not, how did you get lunch, get around, and get to your cabin?  This will be my first time with a scooter on board.  Thanks again for the information.  Don

  2. I found the reviews for the Carnival Victory (we will be cruising on the Radiance over Thanksgiving), read some reviews and wanted to comment on their review and also ask them a question.  BUT I could not find a way to reply to them?  What am I doing wrong?  It was a Feb 2020 cruise.

Also, they mentioned that a driver's license or credit card was required to lock the safe.  I was wondering if one of those cards you buy at Walmart would work?  My driver's license and my credit card is the things I WANT to lock up.   Thank you for all your help!  Don

  3. Nice video it was interesting.

I was hoping for some video shoots of the menu itself.  Where the video could be stopped and the menu read.  Do you have any videos or photos of Carnival's menus?  Like the MDR breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Or videos of the buffets (the food itself) on the lido deck on different days or times?  Things that would really wet a "haven't taken a cruise for a while" individual, still waiting for their cruise to happen.  Thanks for your time.  Don

  4. I prefer the white completely set. no run what so ever.  Now the yoke has to be really runny.

I also wait until the egg has cooled before eating it...the yoke has a much more flavor to it when cooled.  My father-in-law (Dad) taught me that trick decades ago.  He used to wait maybe 15 minutes to 1/2 hour after Ma (Mother-in-law) put the plate of eggs on the table to start to eat.  I would snag a couple of hot eggs and eat them.   Dad always waited.  I asked why one time and he told me that a cooled yoke had more flavor.  I challenged that thought and he had Ma cook some more eggs in two batches.  The first batch (2 eggs) we let cool and then Ma cooked the second batch (2 eggs) which I ate one of the hot ones right off the bat, then a cool egg.  Dad was so correct...the cooled off egg had more flavor.  I have eaten them that way from then on.  Don

  5. Ok, I am lost...I am looking for the folder or folders with all the 2020 and 2019 cruise reviews in it.  I have found a couple of reviews, but only a couple.  With all the different cruise lines and cruises being taken each week from the states, there should be a bunch of reviews to read under some heading here on CruiseCritic.  I can't seem to find them.  So will someone please clue me in so I can smack my forehead and tell myself how dumb I have been.  Are people just no longer reviewing their cruises?  Thank you for the heads up!  Don

  6. I don't have a favorite, "favorite".  It pretty much depends on the restaurant we are eating at, and their menu.  Some places its might be biscuits and gravy (if the gravy actually has sausage in it, and the meat isn't just waved over the pot and a little might fall in).  Others places maybe fried eggs or omelets, blueberry pancakes or pecan waffles.  All with sugar free syrup.  Of course sausage either link or patty preferred by me over bacon.  I eat a lot of bacon on burgers, but for breakfast I enjoy sausage.  Don

  7. OK you two...Rkacruiser, what is a  poached egg that meets your "expectations"?  What exactly are you looking for in it?

Also BklynBoy8, what is a "proper egg?  What are you looking for in it?

Mine as I said, the whites must be solid and the yokes still runny.

Does a soft poached egg suppose to meet those parameters?  Thanks again.  Don

  8. I love a hash with corned beef and fresh potatoes in the morning with a couple of eggs.  That being said, is the hash in the MDR fresh cooked or some warmed up and maybe even a canned hash?  I don't care for a soft mushy type hash or overly cooked crunchy hash.

EGGS...I have never had a restaurant fixed poached egg...are the whites completely done and not runny?  I want the yokes soft but not the whites.

I usually have my eggs fried medium, but sometimes the cooks rush them and the whites around the soft yokes are runny so I have them sent back.  Always ask for my eggs cooked as a single or no more than in pairs.

  9. Catwoman6226, thank you for that information.  I have heard about a hump before but it seems like Carnivals pier makes it easier?  We will see.  It also sounds like there isn't much to see...shopping and Margaretville for lunch.  It sounds like it is one of those ports where you go to on land just so you can say you have been in the port.  Thanks again!  Don

  10. SERK, totally agree! Yes sir, non of those premium proteins on the buffet line that I have ever seen.  But for every cruiser that avoids the MDR at night means more great eats for us.

    Now back to Guy's burgers.

Guy has his saying of "WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!"  I wonder when along with the burgers and the smoked meats...WHEN they will putting a premium chicken place on board?  Don

  11. Man O' Man, OOPS!  SORRY!  WOMAN O' WOMAN!  Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Thank you the great videos!  It looks like maybe the accessible tour in St Maarten, but NOT for $200.  HUM?  St Kitt sounds pretty good also.  Now it really surprised me that there was not handicap accessable ramps, sidewalks, etc. in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  I mean it is a part of the USA, maybe not a state, but still.  Grand Turk will be one of those..."My foot touched the soil."  He saw 3 cabs in Grand Turk...in 7 miles in length and 1 1/2 miles wide it may have been accually ONLY ONE CAB...the driver just changed door decals twice around the island.  I mean, how long can it take to drive a 20 mile circle?

  12. WOW!  8 cruises and ONLY 3 times in the MDR??  I LOVE the lobster, fillets, prime rib, shrimp, escargot, and all the other premium meats.  I can make a meal just out of the appetizers and meat.  The breads, salads or desserts I can take them or leave them.  So at dinner most every night you can find me in the MDR.

During a cruise, maybe once or twice in the MDR for breakfast or lunch.  The rest of the time...topside for my food.

We booked our first cruise with a veranda deck.  LOVED IT!  We ordered room service most days for a certain time and sat on the open deck of our cabin...ate our food and drank our drinks in our night clothes.  We have always booked a veranda cabin since with the same morning ritual.  But as you said...not everyone wants nor likes the same things.

We have never tried any specialty restaurants mainly because I can get the meals I desire in the MDR.  Don

  13. I will be renting my scooter from the "Carnival approved" Scootaround.  So I am thinking that the crew will take care of it.  But if I had purchased it, I can see your concern.  I am going to buy a folding cane to carry along as you said you do.

Great idea!  Scootaround does have a cane holder to rent, but it only takes the type of standard foot canes.  Mine is a 3 toed foot for more stability.  Don

  14. We will hit...St Maarten, St Kitts, San Juan and Grand Turk during our cruise.  Anyone who used a scooter while in one of these ports, please tell me if you went off the ship or stayed on board.  If you took your scooter off the ship...in which port?  What did you do in that port and where did you go?  Did you take any paid excursions?  Did you use a cab or other type of transportation while taking your scooter along?  I am trying to figure how restricted I am going to be in the ports.  Thank you very much for your responses.  Don

  15. OK where do I start?  The burger photos...WOW...somewhere there is a burger I guess?  I enjoy grilled onions and mushrooms on a double MEDIUM (PINK IN THE MIDDLE) cheeseburger with either mayo or thousand island dressing.  Or a creamed cheese jalapeno sauce.  I have trouble enough with just a double/cheese patty and a couple of other things on top keeping the buns together and everything not spilling out onto my plate.  Hopefully not on me.

FYI you CAN get a MEDIUM cooked burger at Red Robin because I ALWAYS order mine that way and it will come out with a little marker marked MED and it is pink in the middle.  Try it and see.

Now I am off to put in a new topic under Port Canaveral and ask where to stay one night pre cruise with a handicap room and two nights post cruise HC also.

    But I'll be back!  Don

  16. Some really great ideas.  Getting on an elevator regardless of direction of travel sounds like a plan.  Once your on...the only thing then is to reach your deck.  Smart.

Wow I never thought about a 3 wheel scooter vs a 4 wheel scooter and how they handle.  Drive the 3 wheel like a 3 wheel tractor.  Straight at the hill never sideways.  Keeping my feet out will be like years ago riding my bike in the winter, making love to the engine for warmth, feet down like skis or out riggers for balance, taking it slow and easy.  Thanks for the heads up.  I told Scoot around I wanted a scooter with 4 wheels but they said they only rent the 3 wheel kind for ease of ship board travel, i.e. passageways, corners, getting into the cabins. etc..  Oh well.

  17. Wow thanks for the link!  The links wouldn't work for me BUT I slipped over to "youtube" , did a search for Guy's burger and a couple of videos came up.  So thank you for that information.

Made me really wanting a burger!  I will go out today and get one for lunch!

I now see where I will need to ask for two (2) "MEDIUM, PINK IN THE MIDDLE, NOT PRESSED DOWN", with cheese...juicy juicy, juicy burgers on one (1) bun.  Thanks!  Don

P.S.  NOW I HAVE TO WIPE THE DROOL OFF MY KEYBOARD!

  18. 51st FMS, I use a store or casino scooter when available, because I can't do a lot of walking.  I can hobble around the house and I have a cane for limited walking outside, BUT to walk all over a ship would be almost impossible and require going to the MDR for dinner around breakfast time.

I have a HC room booked because the most needed thing needed in a cabin is grab handles in the bathroom.  I have a really hard time getting up and my balance isn't the best.  "Hey babe, can you come here and help me get off the pot?"   Not music to anyone's ear, I sure..  I need to help our marriage as much as possible.

Great idea to take the second elevator.  I will have 4 able body walking cruise mates with me most of the time, so that might help somewhat.

Raindropsalways, thank you for the port information.

Ah, a question comes to mind...you said a long legged man stepped over the front of your scooter and you stopped, BUT WISHED YOU HADN'T!  Is "THAT" because you wanted to teach him some manners OR because YOU WANTED him on your lap?  Ha, ha, ha!  Don

  19. Ha, ha, ha, ha!  WOW, I never even considered that this topic would get the reactions and comment this topic has gotten!  Reminds me of the "days of old" when someone asked about jeans in the dining room or shorts on dress up night.

    THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!

I WILL request two (2) "MEDIUM" cooked burgers fresh off the grill.

    RADIANCE CRUISE THIS THANKSGIVING!

50 years ago I used to grill my burger "RARE" and then 30 to 40 years ago I started grilling my burgers "MEDUIM RARE", but now days I grill a medium burger (pink in the middle and juicy) and request the same when I am out.

    I love burgers!  Don
