  1. Yes, there are people who go against the guidelines and wear shorts to dinner. I have seen it both ignored by the staff and have seen guests turned away. I have no idea what the ratio is. Once people are seated no one can see anyway.

I certainly don't want to be breaking any rules. Just trying to find out what the norm is.

  2. I don't recall anyone wearing jeans in the dining rooms, except the first night. I think mostly Docker style pants with polo shirts or Hawaiian shirts or dress shirts.

My brother wears dress shorts to dinner every year, every cruise (except formal nights and Grande). All the other men in our group wore slacks. Then again he's 6'3", 250 lbs so I guess no one would say anything but I admit he looks neat. He gets new sneakers just for the cruise too. Lol.

BTW, many people change after dinner anyway.

So did your brother get away with dress shorts. My husband wants to bring hisTommy Bshama dress shorts and matching shirts.

  3. Can someone please offer guidance on the dress code for the Anthem. Can men wear dress shorts in any of the venues?

Also. What is the appropriate accepted dress for men in the Grand. I know jackets are required but does one have to wear dress pants and a long sleeve button down shirt. I had hoped to,avoid this restaurant but based on the reviews it appears this is the only one with decent food.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. I agree. We did this - had two tables for 6 right next to each other. It makes it much more manageable when the waiter brings in the food, especially with all the special requests.

Your travel agent can put in the request thru Celebrity and link all your reservations. They normally put together seatings around 2-3 weeks.

Thanks that's sounds like a much better idea.

  5. Looking to take my son on a 9 night cruise on the Anthem of the seas out of Bayonne NJ July 2017 for his high school graduation. For a family of 3 in a balcony cabin it would cost me about $6500.00! I'm thinking that's a whole lot of money. Would anyone pay that or am I the only one who thinks its a lot?

Too expensive. I have a balcony on deck 7 in June and only paid $3000. I originally paid $3500 but got a $500 price reduction after booking before final payment.

  6. I am not really concerned about the decor of the dining venue. We will be in a group of 8 enjoying each others company. What I am disappointed in, is losing the different menus that we would be experiencing each evening. We booked all our restaurants and we asked our travel agent to link our reservations with the others so we would all be seated together, she said that RC told her that they don't link reservations for purposes of DD. She told our agent for us just to tell each restaurant when we arrive. Our TA said she insisted they do it, but told her the best they would do was to note on our reservation that we were with 3 other couples.

That did not sit well with me, so I emailed RC Dining and a day later they responded and linked all reservations so we would be at 1 table for 8.

Now this. So I wonder what is going to happen to our reservations at the Grande and Chic? Also now that Solarium Bistro is for suite guests only, where

are they going to put us that night?

I could only expect that when they make the announcement official, their whole cruise planner web site will crash with everyone trying to adjust their reservations. Or we could make changes now like someone else did to avoid the rush. But then what if the information posted was not exactly what they are doing. I truly believe the poster, but what if the Maitre d was wrong?

Same here. We are 8 all RC linked all of our reservations together too and it took me 3 hours to get it done.

  7. If this does come to fruition, do you think they would offer some OBC for folks (like me) who already have their Choice reservations complete and chose the Anthem due to Dynamic Dining? I've got 10 nights of reservations I had to plan. I figure I'd take some OBC and then use them towards specialty dining to offset RC's cluster of a dining situation.

I agree. It took my group 3 hours to make those reservations with countless follow up calls. I booked this ship because that concept appealed to me. I haven't sailed on Royal since 1994. I booked this cruise because of the flexibility and choices available. Now Royal is taking them away. I had my reservations about the Anthem and almost cancelled but decided to go ahead. I will be very disappointed it I end up having to eat in Silk evey night.

  8. After talking with the Maitre'd of all restaurants this evening, I can confirm that Dynamic Dining will be coming to an end. When I tried to get her to commit to a date, she said it would be after we disembarked the ship which will be April 30th.

The 2 dining rooms on Deck 3 will be Traditional with 2 seatings and the 2 dining rooms on Deck 4 will be MTD. Yes, Formal Nights will be reinstated on Anthem. Coastal Kitchen and the Solarium will be for Suite Guests and Pinnacle Club Members. Suite Guests and PC Members can also have Traditional or MTD.

When I asked the question "WHY", I was told that there were so many complaints from C&A Members.........and this was all levels, and not the higher levels as was posted earlier, that Upper Management listened and is making the change to satisfy its guests.

This change will only affect Anthem and not Quantum or Ovation.

Thank you. Can you advise on hiw this will work. We booked reservations at different restaurants. Will we then be MTD people without reservations. We are a group of 8. Will it be a problem eating in MTD?

  9. "If" they change to Deck 3 being Traditional dining with 2 seatings and Deck 4 being MTD.......all dining venus will use the same menu that will change nightly. Formal Night will also come back into the picture and the number will depend on the length of the cruise.:(

Can you please advise what the formal dress requirements are on Royal. We usually cruise Celebrity. Thanks.

  10. Here's how I would do it-

The Grande - everyone gets a set day to attend the grande, you don't get a choice what day it is, but there's a table reserved for you that day as your formal night, you can show up and queue for it on other days for those who don't show up. 15 minute reservation slot so if it says show up at 7pm, if you aren't there by 7:15 then that table goes to someone who is queueing outside.

The other 3 should have only 4 slots- 5:30-7:30

    6:30-8:30

    7:30-9:30

    8:30-10:30

You can book in any of those slots on any day and change times as you go as long as there is availability. Again, 15 minute hold on each table, then it goes to the next waiting in line.

That way everyone knows what day they have formal night and a majority of tables are all at the same time frame when people arrive at the respective time booked in.

The problem they do have is right now they don't reserve a table, they reserve the ability to be first chosen when the table becomes available.

That won't go over well because you are now forcing people to dress formally when they might have specifically booked this ship to avoid do just that. Those people aren't going to be happy if they go back to a mandatory formal night unless its done the same way Celebrity is doing it where men have to wear a jacket with dress jeans.

  11. Currently on Anthem.

After speaking with several Upper Management Personnel and Restaurant Personnel, there are going to be changes made, but everything is still in the working-out the bugs stage. Since there are 4 MDR's involved in the change, it is not an easy process.

The 2 dining rooms on Deck 3 will be Traditional Early and Late Seating and the 2 dining rooms on Deck 4 will be MTD.

The exact start up date has not been determined, but it appears it may be with those cruises starting on or after April 30th.

If I hear of any updates, since we will be here until April 30th, I will certainly post it here.

Does this mean the Grande will no longer be formal and will there be no formal nights now. Hiw will this affect those of us who are already booked. I'm assuming those to took classic will get the traditional dining. Is that how it will work.

  12. We had a great cruise. Just some bad experience in the dining part. I can tell you that we were told by the staff that spoke to us that the current dining program is not working out as they had hoped and that within the next few cruises they will be turning the current 4 restaurants into "main dining rooms".

Confused. How will they be able To do that when people cruising have already made all their dining and show reservations especially while the ship is sailing t full capacity?

  13. Thank you for your response - I was thinking about taking a cab to Horseshoe Bay Beach and also there is an excursion available on RCL for $33 per person that shuttles you directly to the beach and then taking a cab back but it seems silly to spend that much more for two people. Do you know approximately how much a cab would be, without sharing, back and forth between the Ship and the beach and if they take you right to the beach instead of having to walk down the hill.

I think it's about $34 but it depends on traffic and yes they will take you down the path and there are cabs waiting down there to take you back. The excursion is not worth it especially if you are there overnight and don't have to worry about getting back to the ship for sail away. We always share. People are always happy to do so.

  14. Has anyone been to Bermuda and taken a tour which included a stop at Horseshoe Bay Beach. My husband and I are going on RC in early May and would like to do a tour of the island but with limited time available, we get in early afternoon, and want to see everything at the Dockyards the 2nd day I would like to include seeing that beach and particularly pink sand while on a tour. We are seniors and taking bus transportation to just see the beach would not be an option for us. Thank you

I have been to Bermuda 9 times. The best tour is the 5 hour highlight tour by mini bus. It takes you all over the island. I did it on Celebrity but RCL also has it. It's about $95. I suggest you do the tour on the second day and take a cab to Horseshoe Beach the first day. Just walk to the cab stand and offer to share with other waiting. We always do it. It's about $16. There are a,ways cabs waiting to take you back. Not to be missed. In my opinion there is nothing to see at the Dockyards.

  15. Not "well said". The OP posted. The OP asked for opinions. The OP got opinions. The OP does not get to judge those opinions after the fact.

    THAT is rude.

Cancel before the rest of us go is not an opinion it's a rude comment. I asked for feedback from those who had sailed and yes I do get to judge the rude immature comments that were posted by nasty people who have nothing to do all day but make stupid comments on this board. Get a life.

  16. I did respond earlier on your other thread but after reading responses here and there I think it is best for you to cancel. It doesn't seem like you will be able to go with an open mind so instead will be looking for issues at every turn. Please for the rest of us who will go and enjoy the ship cancel before it is too late.

Sorry if that is harsh but . . .

It's not too harsh it's rude. But your are obviously one of those nasty people who come on here to criticize instead of help. You are also probably one of those people who go on a cruise and complain about everything. But since the majority of please who posted here have been nice and helpful and not like you we have decided to go. Hopefully we won't be running into you on our sailing.

  17. If you've ever cruised before, please understand this ship is very different. The dining is different, the shows are different, even the show schedules are different. Some people don't like change. We will be on her Monday and can't wait! We loved Quantum last April and know we will have a great time on Anthem.

Thanks. Yes I know and I am not your typical cruiser. I always eat in different restaurants and never do the early or late seating. I have made all my dinner and show reservations already. My concern is not really about what happened on the ship on the last few sailings is more about the negative reviews the ship has deceived since its first voyage. However, I'm going to take s chance and stay and hope for the best.
