  1. Everyone seems to rant & rave about the Bistro, but every time I walk past it, there doesn't seem to be anyone in there. I'm not a big fan. Besides, if I want craps, I'll go to Paris.

Is the food that bad !

you may need to be english to understand what i mean;)

  2. Didnt see any stray dogs but saw plenty of 'stray' spined sea urchins , i swear these things were stalking me , everwhere i went they were there .......I soon got out. ( on snorkelling trip )

Also while swimming around , something bumped into my leg hard .....twice:eek:

Its a pretty place but it was far too overcrowded , dont see the pont in the stop tbh

  3. I bought only a few things during my eight days in Norway. The gift shops have to charge tax on top of the purchases but it wasn't outrageous. Most Norwegian cruises sail from England anyway- so you don't really have to stay overnight in Norway. Meals are included on the ship. I'm not much of a shopper and didn't book any excursions (which are in US dollars anyway if booked through the cruise line)- so unless you plan to eat on land and shop for lots of things- the cost of going to Norway wasn't any different for me than going to say Copenhagen! Copenhagen was outrageous due to the exchange rate.

You ought to try Stokholm , now that is expensive , I didnt find Norway overally expensive tbh

I havent cruised there but last year spent a long weekend in Bergen , we did the Norway in a Nutshell from there , very long day , but amazing . Norway is a beautiful country .

While in Bergen I did notice people from the cruise ships doing tours , I would say dont bother , its easy to wander round on your own ( and therefore at your own pace

  4. Why oh why do you have to attack a poster who dares to criticise anything to do with celebrity, just because their views differ from yours doesn't make them any less valid. I admit I read some of the negative reviews with a chuckle , but I hope I wouldn't condemn them for their views.

Two weeks ago we had an unfortunate experience with a hotel room in London , room hadn't been made up , were given another room , problems with shower all weekend it was either scalding hot , cold or both !! Consequently I found I could find fault with every thing about the room and hotel most of which I wouldn't have bothered about , although I think the cost of the room influenced me in expecting better as well . Friends who were also staying there as well loved it and said it was the best hotel ever.................

  5. Thanks for the replies , I had wondered if icy point was because we have picked a very early tour and had been reading that cruise booked tours get priority tendering . But guess the tour companies are well aware of cruise ship protocol

  6. We just got back from a northbound cruise/tour on Millie. I am putting my thoughts to words, and will get a review going shortly.

To sum it up, we had a great time, and the staff were wonderful. The passengers were a mixed bag from a variety of countries, and we did not meet any bad apples. About the only nitpicky thing that I didn't like was our cabin steward did not change our towels if we hung them up on the hooks behind the bathroom door. He only changed them if we threw them on the floor. This struck me as odd, but not a major issue in light of the whole experience.

I posted about the ultimate dining experience earlier.

    Teri

Thats normal proceedure in every hotel ive been in too , hanging towels mean you are willing to resuse them , on the floor means please wash

  7. If you'll list your ports of call here, someone will be able to tell you if they are tender ports or not.

    LuLu

I went to check and site under maintenance:rolleyes:

I'm trying to remember ports, but brain dead at the moment

    Icey straight ?

    Ketchikan

  8. If you're booked, go and look at your itinerary. It will specify either docked or tender for each port.

I've checked the itinerary and it gave the ports but no mention docked of tendered, I will go and look again

  9. We will be on a southbound Alaska Cruise on the Millenium in August and realised we dont know what ports ( if any ) are tendered . My booking details dont mention any tendering , and it has just occured to me that this wont necessarily mean that there arent any !

  10. Another way to save,

Once you have a date and route in mind consider buying multiple tickets which together cover the whole journey. The UK rail system is very crazy

I just tried one for your route London To Exeter + Exeter to Plymouth, staying on the same train.

    £69.00 down to £54.80 saving £14.20

    Easy way to find out...

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/split-cheap-train-tickets/

1 2nd the crazy comment I don't think I've ever paid the same price twice for a ticket to London! I had to comment on your post as you live about 4 miles from me ....small world

OP the train to Plymouth is very scenic , part of the line was washed away during last winter's storms , ( it's ok they've repaired lol )

  11. I am off on the millenium in August and have found the reviews interesting ! ( to say the least ).To provide a bit of a balance I thought I would check the reviews of other cruise lines. I have decided there is no hope for any cruising after i read the reviews for Cunard , if the likes of the Queen Mary are rated as a cesspit ( poetic licence ) at least I can be happy that I spent less money on the rotten hulk of millenium ;)

  12. We spent a long weekend in Dubrovnik a few years ago , you could tell the cruise tour trips , they were the group of people looking very tired and bored .like a lot of ports you do not need to book a tour , do some research and wander round , Dubrovnik is lovely.

We also noticed last year people taking tours in Bergen , Norway.....why? You can walk round it in an hour lol

  13. I know I can be "bad" in washrooms and not wash after using them, but that is only when there are no hand towels to dry my hands (haven't been on a cruise yet that didn't have hand towels). I know it's not as eco-friendly, but my hands actually chap with those hand blowers. I do however put sanitizer on my hands the minute I walk out of a restroom. Yep - I keep a small bottle in my purse at all times.

I, too, find it funny that people will say they will never cruise because they don't want to get noro. Yet, they may be one of the statistics that got it at their local restaurant, but suffered through it thinking it was food poisoning and didn't get diagnosed as noro.

Nice to see NBC and USA Today actually putting out pieces that show that noro can be caught anywhere. (Although that might be incentive for those "I'll never cruise" people to book a cruise now. Hope they don't book on Celebrity and further slow down the website! :) )

Hand sanitiser is NOT a replacement for soap and water , you are putting other people at risk by assuming this .In fact many hospitals are now thinking that by supplying sanitizer they are increasing the risk of people thinking washing hands with soap and water isn't necessary

  14. I am a surgical nurse who has been on 17 cruises and have NOT been sick.. Know why? I wash my hands before and after I eat. I also make use of the many hand sanitizers that are available on the ships. If people would use some common sense and not be pigs, there wouldn't be half of the sickness that are shown on national news!

Surely that only protects other people from your 'germs '? It will not protect you from what is spread from those who don't follow basic hygiene rules.... it only takes one person to infect many

  15. 15% is added to all bar bills even non alcoholic. How they divide the tips doesn't concern me, Celebrity worked all that out, non of my business it's my obligation to leave that 15% intact and everyone is happy.

It concerns me , I worry that the 'tips'are used to top up poor rates of pay.I suspect that the employees have little protection when it comes to employment rights

  16. That is a great excursion... one if the best we've been on but it has been awhile so I do not remember a food stop.

I am type 2 diabetic and always travel w/ pre packaged granola type bars., with at least 15 grams of carb and protein like peanut butter flavor..also good are ritz type crackers..cheese or peanut butter...small boxed cereal...can't afford to let my blood sugar drop!

Surely type 2 the problem is rising sugar levels not dropping !

  17. There should be NO “free” champagne, period. They could save what, $2000 per cruise every week for every ship? I hope the free champagne goes away. As someone who drinks NO alcohol, I question why that should be built into my fare. I’ll be sure to write in my comment card : No free champagne please.

Want not, waste not. Also, certain religions are offended by free champagne.

So don’t just reduce it by an ounce. Reduce it by 100%. The complainers will complain no matter what.

    I'll have yours please

If we can all list what we would like them to cut out ......can I vote for not sailing out to sea please it will save thousands and I get sea sick :D

Yes I realise cruising probably isn't for me , but I'm going to Alaska so will enjoy it if it kills me .....and I'm sure free champagne will help lol

I love reading the reviews some of the complaints are hilarious , saw one complaining about a south Asia cruise saying the beaches aren't the caribbean ......wow! really ?

I like to expect the worse and always be pleasantly surprised. I have paid 5 star prices so why would I expect a five star ship ?

  18. Bear in mind, the poster is in the USA. In the UK always book the insurance as early as possible as you start having a risk of loss from Day One

I hadnt realised there was a difference when it came to what country you are from and was puzzled why no one said from when you book

Its one of the reasons why we always have an annual policy , tho this thread had prompted me to check if we have cruise cover

  19. I am not sure if we will have much time to spend in Canada - maybe only a few days ... We are just thrilled to make it to one of our dream destinations! Any suggestions on where to spend our time would be appreciated. We love being able to get this help!

It's seems a shame to go all that way just to say you've been there. Personally I would have Canada as a whole separate holiday

I am in the camp that 28 days is far too long !! Have you done many cruises do you enjoy sea days ?

  20. From the Barbados website:

Please note that it is against the law to wear camouflage clothing and to carry items made out of camouflage material.

    and St Lucia:

    Local laws and customs

It is an offence for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing.

A friends small son was made to change his outfit at the check in desk before their flight to Jamaica

  21. You guys are all a bunch of babes in the woods! I started cruising in 1982 on the then-12 year old Norwegian Southward, 16000 tons. A true rust bucket compared to ships of today. We paid $995 for a guarantee inside cabin that was miniscule. We had our 4 month old daughter with us. Let me tell you, it was like a Motel 6 compared to a cruise on an S class ship today.

I also sailed on the maiden voyage of the Galaxy, a gorgeous ship at the time. Many other cruises on just about every cruiseline from the Marco Polo () to Crystal (:D).

There are just as many BAD things about the good ol' days as there are good things--for what we pay today, cruising is a huge bargain, especially in light of all the amenities and the luxurious surroundings.

I for one am thrilled that there are no more hokey Baked Alaska parades!!

That must have been quite a lot of money then . Does anyone know what that would translate into today's money? Or for that matter what these previous quoted cruises cost then

  22. Nothing wrong that can't be repaired...door hinges are rusting so doors to the cabins are falling off. Many of the beds are on the floor due to collapsed bedframes. A few of the rooms still have running water and toilets that flush and they have managed to contain the rats from eating in the buffet at the same time as other passengers. Passengers are catching norovirus as they check in on embarkation and everyone is confined to their rooms for the length of the cruise. (Is this a loose summation of the reports you must have been reading?).

Fortunately, we sailed on her for 28 wonderful days earlier this year in Asia prior to the what must have been the very sudden deterioration you've found in all those negative posts.

Our perspective is that it's a very nice ship, in very good condition and we'd sail on the Millennium again in a heartbeat if it were sailing somewhere we wanted to go.

Good news the rats are still there........It would be worrying if they left ;)

I love reading to reviews (the bad ones are pretty funny at times ) it's curious how people on the same ship at the same time can have such different experiences

Expect the worse and be pleasantly surprised

I'm not sure if the length of the cruise affects the reviews but I've found staying anyway for too long makes me go slightly stir crazy and would guess little niggles could be a major issue after a while
