  1. How strange is that being on the same ship

i love cheese but the rest of the family hate it!

The lounge area looks very small so i am not sure how everyone will get a view. I have read that the smoke comes across from the other side, i have two small children so i will not be happy with that.

R u getting a drinks package? it would cost us €660 for ours. i know we will not drink that amount? Do you know if they do different packages for drinks?

    Have you done many cruises?

Have a look at this thread for for info on drinks packages:

  2. WOW two world cruise on the Luminosa.

Now that would be the ultimate B2B cruise.

Doing both cruises in a premium cabin would earn something like 41000 Costa Club points - Costa needs a new top level in the Costa Club.

    Ron

PS. Both cruises start in Savona.

  3. Price drops being honoured by Costa depends entirely upon the region / country where the cruise was booked and the country of residence of the person booking the cruise.

In Europe (EU) once you have paid your deposit then you have entered into a contract to cruise, cancellation of a cruise you will loose your deposit and also incur additional charges depending how many days out you are. Costa is not obliged to pass on any price drop.

That being said in Costa's 2014 Catalogue it states:Das Costa Preisversprechen

Versprochen!

The Costa Price Pledge basically says "If after booking the price for your category falls and all conditions remain the same then you will be refunded the difference,".

Check your Costa catalogue to see if the guarantee is also applicable for your country.

  4. Either as previously stated via train or there is a direct bus from Hamburg Airport to Kiel mainline station (Hauptbahnhof), there run every hour at 5 minutes past the hour, the bus number is 4550 takes about 1 1/2 hours.

From Kiel mainline station, either take a taxi or Costa offers a shuttle service for Euro 4.50 p.p. runs between 11:00 to 16:00 and leaves every half hour.

    Ron

PS. Steamboats good to see you on other boards besides River Cruising

  5. I have just changed our cabin to a premium balcony cabin on deck 8

Below you (deck 7 - Prometeo) are all cabins, so no problem. Deck 9 - Armonia is the Lido Deck, you may heard some noise when the crew move / drag the deck chairs while cleaning the deck.

What is your cabin no. I'll have alook to see exactly what is above you.

    Ron

PS. Does it matter if there is some noise, after all you are on a cruise and on a very fine ship.:)

  6. Toga parties were held on Costa ships sailing the Caribbean but according to recent messages and reviews they have now been discontinued for some time.

In it's place there now seems to be more theme nights in addition to the long time favourite of Italian night, e.g. White Night, Tropical Night.

    Ron

  7. Your cabin has cabin decks above and below, so it should be quiet, you may get some noise from the Sqouk (kids) club which is situated foreward on deck % (Orfeo). You may feel some ships movement (rolling) as the cabin is situated right at the sharp end.

Weather wise you should be OK, but one can never tell, storms can hit at anytime, ships try to avoid storms if they can

The Mediterranea is my favourite Costa ship, try the Afternoon Tea (not bad cuppa), if you want to get away from the crowds for a read, sleep or just watch the ocean go by try the winter gardens on deck 3 (Bacco). The winter gardens run round the outside of the theatre with entrances on both side of the theatre.

    Have a great cruise.

  8. This is not a huge problem but a Costa requirement when buying the All Inclusive Package, it's been in place some time and is even in black and white (which Costa is not known for).

Have a look at the PDF file in message No 2 on this thread:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1985402

    It clearly states

This package must be purchased by all passengers travelling in the same cabin or who are travelling with the same booking number and by all passengers who dine together. The price includes the service charge.

Stated in 6 languages to boot.

    Ron

Such a rule was imposed because on the original All Inclusive drinks packages (X1 and J2) only 1 person in the cabin could buy it. A small percentage of passengers spoilt it for the rest by ordering rounds of drinks at the dinner table and then bragging about it on cruise forums. Even Costa can read sometimes, hence the new restrictions.

  9. Thank you very much for your response. I can understand your writing in English so I suppose that is good!

I live in Orlando, FL. I am 10 miles down the road from Disney World. I am a huge Disney fan, go there once a week and have an annual pass. That being said when I go to Europe, I don't want it to feel like home, you know?! I don't want to be on Mickey Mouse's ship, when I live down the street from Mickey Mouses house and go there all the time! So Disney Cruiseline is out for my once in a lifetime trip to Europe.

I have frequent flyer miles to use for this trip which requires me to fly round trip to/from the same location in Europe. The best flights right now seem to be in/out of Nice. I've also checked Barcelona....the availability changes daily so I'm just checking my options right now.

I will likely have many more questions about actual ports soon! Thank you again.

You may also want to look at Milan airport for Savona, Costa do bus transfers from both Nice and Milan airports to Savona.

Don't worry about the language, English is the widest spoken language amongst the crew, most Europeans will have some knowledge of English (even if it is only school English. If you don't find anyone who speaks English just start waving your arms about and you'll get lots of Italians talking to you.:D

The other good thing Costa does is to sit native English speakers together at Dinner (assigned table and dinner sitting) so you will meet people there.

Go with an open mind with no preconceived idea and you will have the time of your life - after all it is your vacation.

If you have any other questions just ask, most members are friendly and helpful, not so many "haters" as on other boards.

  10. So it is that time of year where Costa will be presenting it's ship deployment plans for the 2015 season.

The first news is Costa will only have two ships in South America, Favolosa and the Pacifica.

Fortuna will be reposition to the Caribbean with possible embarkation / disembarkation in Miami, La Romana (Dominican Republic) and Pointe-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe).

Luminosa will sail from Miami, Mediterranea and Magica will sail from La Romna and Pointe-a-Pitre.

  11. Good to see you back on here Ron. I missed your wonderful sense of humour.

Mairi, thank you. I haven't seen the sea for almost a year, but my feet were never really dry during that time. The great Passau flood of 2013 caused havoc in our lives. DD and family got hit bad and have been living with us for the last 6 months - only agreed to that after I found out that SIL did not like the beer I drink .

As insurance and state support and payout were slowing in coming, we have done a lot of the work ourselves, chipping off platser re-palstering, chipping of tiles retiling, take out windows putting new ones in etc. etc. etc. Two other families (both very good friends) got hit even worse than DD (gorund floor and first floor were devastated). One couple we could help with renovation and got them moved back in a short time ago. The other couple house has been condemned and will have to be pulled down due to help hazards (heating oil seemed into the walls), so now waiting final clearance from insurance company.

So life must go on just as sure as the Danube waters flow under the bridges of Passau. I think that would make a great song "Under The Bridges Of Passau".

I see you were on the Fortuna in Dubai - how was your cruiseß

  13. Not the first "mutiny" to occur on a Costa ship in the far east. In 2006 when the Costa Allegra was reposition to the far east (first Costa ship to do so). The air condition broke down on many parts of the ship, the Captain promised it would be fixed. After several days under tropical heat the AC was still down and that is when the passengers staged their mutiny.

Who wants to join a mutiny and sail to Tahiti.

  14. Welcome back Ron. Stay around this time.

Chuck, thanks for the welcome. Don't worry, now that the great flood and the aftermath has been cleaned up and put to bed, I now have more time on my hands so I'll be around.

    Ron
