  1. We are going to be in Key West at the end of this month. We are interested in walking from the ship to the site - I know it's on Front Street. However, I have spent a couple of hour's trying to figure out how to walk there. Google is a bit confusing as to where you should walk.

Has anyone walked this from the ship and can you give directions as the best way to do this - when we were there last year we never found it by asking directions as we went. We kept getting turned around and finally had to give up and get back to the ship. I have a feeling we walked all around it - kept gettng turned around in parking lots etc.

There has to be a place right there to buy tickets and get in

  2. Taxi. Your hotel is about as close to the port as you can get. There's a taxi line right outside the HAL terminal.

If you need something to do that night, grab the Water Taxi. The dock is right by your hotel. Seeing Fort Lauderdale by boat at night when the Christmas decorations are up is not to be missed.

We have stayed several times at this hotel in past year's. However, the last 3-4 years they have been sold out when we were cruising. We always see the water taxi and I've never been able to talk DH into giving it a try. However, I hadn't thought about the Christmas decorations maybe being up this year. We will be there the weekend prior to Thanksgiving this cruise. Do you think the decorations will be up that early?

That would give me more incentive to talk DH into going.:)

Can you buy the ticket's right there at the hotel - do you know?

  3. Yes, this is why a Taxi is pretty much recommended from many of the hotels including the one you are staying at .

    Have a great cruise.

Quick and Safe Transportation - I called them it is a bus shuttle from what the man told me and 6.00 a piece. We would rather have a private transfer for the same rate.

We over pack being we drive to Ft Lauderdale - it's easy to take more than we need - DH is just as bad as I am. I truly am trying to take less this year. However, then we decide to bring our own wine and pay corkage - that add's an additional piece of roll on insulated wine transport. DH just informed me he want's to bring 3 or 4 - 12 packs of soda, and I take a 24 bottle pack of water (have learned in recent year's that this helps with swollen ankles). That will mean an extra 3 pieces basically. We just tape the water and soda together and slap a luggage tag on them. But it is cumbersome.

Granted on debarkation day we won't have as much left when we take the shuttle back to Budget for our return home.

We have decided to use the 25.00 stuff it laundry bag so maybe the luggage will be down to 3 rather than 4 large pieces this year.

Along with our two roll on flight bags

Hope the taxi driver doesn't just keep moving when he see's us:eek:

Thank you all for your help and tips. I have the number for Yellow cab and will call them directly to arrange for pick up at the hotel. We like to get to the port fairly early so will most likely have them pick us up at 10:30 to head over.

  4. We will be stopping in Key West on November 28th. We were there for the first time last year on the Eurodam. Happily we are returning on her again this year.

We did the HOHO trolley last year and Hemingway's Home.

This year we Know we want to do Truman's Little White House for sure.

I've heard it's a couple of block's from the pier. However, we couldn't find it last year. Wondering if you can point us in the right direction to get there. Also, thinking the museum may be a nice stop as well.

We aren't there in the evening so will miss Sunset again.

Also, are there any good grocery or wine/booze shops close to the pier?

Thank you - I know this is a very old thread - I saw that you live in KW so thought I would ask.

  5. We are staying at the Hilton Marina prior to our HAL cruise out of Port Everglades.

The Hilton referred me to Quick and Safe Transportation to set up a transfer from the hotel to the Eurodam.

Wondering IF anyone has used them or has recommendations for another shuttle service - we have only two passenger's but we don't travel light so need a decent size vehicle. With space for 3 large suitcases, 1 medium, 2 flight bags a wheeled, a case of wine, case of water, and case of soda.

I KNOW we take way to much

But, DH is just as bad or worse than I am - we drive to FLL so it's easy to overpack:o

  6. they said he wasn't available???

After reading the experiences here though - next time I will say "then call somone who knows".

As it turned out when we drank it at home it was terrible wine. So maybe it was the Wine God's not wanting us to pay anymore for the wine  in corkage fee's.

I believe what happened to the wine it had gotten too hot. We bought it from a store that was close to the pier in Key West - the gal had all the doors open in the shop and it was HOT. We should have paid attention to that - another lesson learned.

We ended up buying some additional bottles on the ship from one of the guy's in the Lido area who was selling a two bottle package. It wasn't the greatest but it wasn't priced badly either.

For our upcoming cruise on the Eurodam we have decided to buy what we know we like and just pay the corkage up front. It still turns out to be less expensive than what they charge on the ship even after paying the corkage fee. And, we can keep it cool in our insulated wheeled wine bag.

And, if we happen to run out then I know the magic phrase to use next time - THANKS

  7. At any of these points, were you given the option of paying corkage, or was handing over the wine the only thing you could do?

We to asked about corkage at that time - I felt that they weren't informed - you could tell that this wasn't the normal crew handling the table at that particular time when we came back on the ship. We asked them explicitly to check with their supervisor (whom was available at the time) they said they would - even wrote it down - but we never heard back. They did deliver it that last night of our cruise.

  8. We tried everything that has been suggested above. We went to the store and purchased bottles during the first leg of our cruise - hoping it would be delivered to us on the last night of our first week. IT WASN'T!

We then tried to bring on 2 bottles of wine from Key West on the second leg of our cruise - NOPE they took it from us.

We questioned this being we were now on the second week of our cruise - saying that we thought we were allowed 1 bottle per person per cruise week. They were not allowing that - it was all delivered to us on the last night of our entire 15 day cruise.

I can appreciate that different crew member's and or ship's may handle it differently. However, being you're also sailing on the Eurodam thought I'd share our experience.

  9. WOW - that is my SIL and BIL with the flags in the bottom picture you posted!

THANK YOU - they will be so HAPPY when they get back and have this picture - that is just AWESOME:D

BTW we were talking to her while they were leaving port - I did ask about their balcony - she said it was a great size so maybe it's just the angle of the camera.

  10. I finally got them both to work on our large screen THANK YOU for your help!

I have pretty much isolated SIL's balcony too

Now, I may try to hook my laptop to the larger screen TV to see if I can see them there - that'd be cool as our large monitor is till only 22 inches. Got it WORKING NOW on the 42 inch screen - wow is that clear!

I have been cruising since the 70's and I still get goosebumps when I see the cruise ships :D

  11. My SIL and BIL are sailing today on the Oosterdam plan to be there. I was thinking portfever.com

IS that where you all watch it or should I be on another better site?

We had thought about going but then decide on the B2B 15 day on the Eurodam when we were able to get our fav balcony for Thanksgiving.

Can't wait for sail away of the Oosterdam

I just found the links that are listed - is one better than the other? Darn I can get the Port Everglades link to work but something is blocking my Ft Lauderdale link to work. I can't figure out what is wrong in my browser cookie blocking to make the one link not work :-(

  12. However, when purchasing the HAL cruises we use the Barclay card we do get double points for anything that is HAL billed.

With our Chase card we use it every month and redeem on Amazon or directly as a credit to the bill.

I actually signed up to take an online course via Udemy on how to get the most travel advantages out of credit cards. Haven't had a chance to take it yet though.
