  1. Thank you to both of you for your swift and wise replies. The last couple of times we sailed from NY, we parked at the port so I didn't pay attention to debarkation time. However I was shocked at the increase to 40$ per day; so ten days would be $400 compared to 52$RT for 2 (if I book early), plus cab to port. I will book the noon bus and walk off. If for some reason, we miss it; I could always pay for another busvia bolt, megabus etc.

  2. Just to add on Acey-SJ, the taxi fare is $8 for one person. Any additional persons is $1 extra on top of the fixed price. So a group of 3 will pay $10.

    My family of four paid $8 going to the fallls jet boat site and $10 returning. It wouldn't have been worth it for us either to walk or to take the city bus. I agree, unless you are going to the jet boat ride (highly recommended) or ziplining, I'm not sure I would go there just to look at the falls. There is also a sightseeing boat by the same company at another part of the falls that I hear is also very nice.

  3. We will be in port 8 am til 5pm. Have a car rented. Other than Peggy's cove we would like to see more of the area. Afraid going all of the way to lunenburg might be pushing it. Do any locals have a suggestion of other drives or towns to visit, doing coastal driving when possible. Would like to do Peggy's cove last (it really depends on how fast we get the rental car) in hopes of avoiding all of the tour buses. Thanks for any suggestions.

    We are not local but recently did a similar route. We got the car around 9am ship time; drove Route 333 to Peggy's Cove, Pan Am Memorial then to Ryer Lobsters for Lunch. A quick stop at the Arcadia Maple Store-(a tourist trap full of buses) then we headed back to Halifax making an entire loop around the Peninsula. We stopped at the Fairlawn (Titanic Cemetary) and then returned the car around 2:30 ship time. We even had time to visit the Maritime (Titanic) Museum and do a little shopping at the pier.

    It was a leisurely day filled with sites for very little money. The only problem going first thing int he morning is that you have to deal with the tour buses and possibly fog. We were aware of that but wanted to arrive for lobster around 11:30 for lunch and to beat those crowds.

  4. Had the unique opportunity of watching our ship sail without us without missing the ship. Confused? Don't be.

    When we went on the Dawn to Bermuda a couple of years ago. For the first 1.5 days, the ship was tendering to Hamilton. The ship then moved to Kings Wharf for the remainder of the time. We were going to ride back with the ship but they actually encouraged us to stay in Hamilton and take the ferry or bus back. What a weird feeling we had watching the ship leave even knowing that we were going to meet up with it later that day.

    But generally we book our own excursions unless they involve water and/or or ways that would make it impossible to make it back on our own should our transportation break or fail to pick us up.

  5. You're making me smile. I too suffered from CC pickpocket freakout last October. DD got a huge kick out of my "safe" purse and my paranoia in Barcelona and at the Trevi Fountain.

    Can't wait to hear more about your adventures. We all followed your "ups and downs" closely.

    Dear Carol:

    I was so fascinated with your story; didn't get to my early morning work LOL;

    In terms of pick pockets in Barcelona, we headed the advice seriously when I visited there in 1991; we observed a pick pocket of a young college student who actually chased down the thief, tackled him and retrieved her purse. It turned out that she was a track star from Harvard. Years later, my friend heard a similar story from a friend of a friend it was the same girl.

    I am not surprised you won the sexy arms (or is it legs) contest; didn't win it on the Mariner as well. You probably hold the record for that award. Sorry to hear that you are missing Mazatlan on your next cruise that ended up being our favorite port with a tour by Smiley.

    Take care
