  1. We spoke with Anca quite a bit on our 7.1.16 sailing and at this time she hasn't even set a date for her return. She is expecting to take an extended vacation (she has earned it) and X seems to realize she is a special concierge and giving her some leeway here. She has a new nephew at home in Romania and she was looking forward to spending some time with family. While we aren't the type of people to usually use a butler or concierge but Anca was at most times insistent upon doing something for us. I can't imagine a better concierge than her.

  2. Sushi On Five is not included in the unlimited speciality dining for top suites.

It is also not free for suite guests during lunch when Luminae is closed. By now there can't be many people left who booked their cruise before the Luminae hours were changed anyway; past time to get over this.

It was included for guests in Royal and Penthouse suites on the 7/1/16 Silhouette sailing. Maybe it is a ship by ship decision but Anca confirmed it before we dined there and our bill was $0.00

  3. It depends on which suite you will be in. In the Signature, Royal, and Penthouse suites you should have unlimited specialty dining in which case you would have access. Sky and Celebrity Suites would not have access. We just sailed in a Royal Suite on the Silhouette and tried Sushi on 5 on the last sea day and were underwhelmed but others seemed to be enjoying it. They accidentally printed a bill before they realized we had unlimited specialty dining so make sure they know as well.

  4. I thought this was odd as well. We are on this sailing and it seems like there were quite a few cancellations at final payment time. I'm not sure if the recent events in Europe dissuaded many from going.

I looked at the same itinerary leaving on 7/25 and there are fewer cabin categories available and prices are much higher. So I guess it is just a timing issue?

  5. Thanks for the updates. As to your comments about the clientele, so many who sail the Transatlantics are of like minds and the love of consecutive sea days. It certainly got in our blood without any effort at all!

We have close friends your age who disembarked the Constellation Transatlantic in Rome this morning. In their email the said they cried having to leave the ship!

    Continue to enjoy...... ;)

Disembarking in Rome and crying? Hopefully they have some time in Rome to eat and walk just to make sure they adjust back to land ok![emoji6]

  6. No reason for the Casino to stop it. I would guess they would allow you to do it all day long. I would be willing to bet that the person that keeps making the suggestion has never really done it either.

I do not play roulette, but say 38 numbers which includes two greens? 2/38 or 5.27% opportunity to donate all your chips (OBC) to the casino?

I'm not recommending this to anyone unless they are comfortable losing it all. I would suggest that you only do this if you have non refundable OBC. I'm a gambler and too much OBC isn't ever a problem. As I mentioned play this bet only on the table with a single green 0 to get to 2.702% odds of losing al of your bets.

While I personally haven't done this as I would rather just play the table games as I regularly do I know people who have done this and it is about the best chance of getting cash back from non refundable OBC.

  7. Thanks for replying.

Do you get your "stake" back as well. In other words would they give you $50 in real chips and your $50 promotional tips back?

    Sorry to be so dim.

They should be swapping your promo chips for real chips on the winning color but you will likely have to remind them. There is no minimum play thorough multiple on promo chips. So, once you win the winnings and original bet should me in actual chips. Same case for promo chips on blackjack.

If you do this please make sure you use the table with a single "0" green like in Europe. The more common American roulette table has "0" and "00" further reducing your odds of winning the red or black bet.

  8. As the title says, has anyone upgraded to a Celebrity suite after the cutoff date for the free 1-2 specialty dinners and still received them.

My original booking was made well in advance of the cutoff date. I recently upgraded to a Celebrity suite and retained the same booking number. I was curious if I would still receive the dinners since the booking date is technically before the cutoff date or if they separately track an upgrade date.

  9. 1. Royal Suite and Penthouse get unlimited dining in specialty restaurants included in the cabin fare.

    2. I believe all course by course service in the room is from the MDR menu but I think this may depend on your butler.

    3. If you are booked in a suite you can eat n the MDR, Blu (Aqua class restaurant) on availability basis, Luminae, and as mentioned above any specialty restaurant if booked in RS or PH.

    4. I think you are correct that the suite perks are currently included and Go Best are the same perks you will receive.

  10. Andy, in your next cruise, find the Casino Host at the beginning of your cruise, and tell him/her that you would like to be rated. Hopefully, they'll follow your play during your cruise.

Their publications say a minimum of $50 average bet for at least 2 hours per day. The new system now in use on allot their tables tracks your play when they swipe your room key and manually type in your first bet amount and buy in.

I can tell you that you don't have to bet $50/hand. I rarely do unless I get on a hot streak but almost always play multiple hands and for many more than 2 hours/day. Ymmv, but it's not terribly difficult to be a "member" but the staff does play a big role in your invite and I truly believe how you are rated. I have had great casino hosts and some less than great, however the dealers and managers are always friendly and generally great people.

  11. What is a blue chip member and how do you become one?

Blue Chip club is the invitational gambling club of Celebrity for those who frequently spend too much time time, money, or both in the onboard casinos.

  12. There has never been a fee for Blue Chip members and when they started enforcing it since other passengers were cashing out OBC the Blue Chip members are still exempt if you show them your card. The promo chips are a whole different discussion that make me crazy. Unless you ask them every hand they will leave the promo chips and only pay the winnings in actual chips. The fine print nowhere says there is a play through minimum on promo chips so they should be swapping the original bet for actual chips for any hands won.

Also, pretty decent deals on the European sailings in today's email.

  13. Actually it didn't, but did vary by ship. There were some coffees and some teas that were not part of the Classic, at least according to workers in Al Bacio. This was my experience on Summit in 2014, & Solstice a couple of years ago.

I have had all premium coffees included as a part of the classic package on 3 separate sailings/ships. I don't know about premium alcoholic coffee drinks though as I don't order them and obviously that would entail the possibility of an alcohol over the classic limit.

  14. Despite what some say about Blu, the food is regular cruise ship food, much like the MDR

While it is still prepared relatively en masse, there is definitely more attention to detail and I think that is what ultimately leads to better execution than the MDR. It is just a number of eyes/plate game.

We have sailed AQ once and throughly enjoyed it. It isn't enough difference to pay significantly more for but when the opportunity presents itself we will choose AQ. Part of our TA's Black Friday sale allowed us to go from 2d veranda to AQ, we had to give up half of our $600 OBC. Given 12 days in the Baltic I'll be enjoying some time in the heated loungers!

  15. All right. We were also on this cruise. I don't have time to read each post. Here is our peace about this cruise...

Last year we were on this same cruise at the same time, sans girl child age 9. It was so well done that we rebooked and decided that girl child should attend.

Let me say the good stuff first. The Fun Factory was fantastic with exception of a young man named Yony. He let her out without our permission, us having paid the additional fee before the "free" time was up. Our daughter did not want to leave. Upon her leaving she was harassed by the "happy people" and shoved around the hall when her key card didn't work. A very sweet couple came out of their room 3 doors down and saved her. It should have NEVER happened EVER in a million years!!! After that night Yony was never left alone with her again.

The family veranda two doors down from us was empty due to a family not making it to port in time. One of the groups of " happy people" had a burst pipe in their room on the first night. They were awarded that room. Those young boys were the most disrespect arses I've encountered in a long time. They even exposed their private parts to our young daughter.

One afternoon as we walked our daughter to Fun Factory, there was a couple, a "happy couple" as Alejandro would say, just outside the door. The young lady (girl?!) was spread leg on a lounge chair. Young man (boy?!) laying face down in her open crotch area. My husband turned my daughter and I around immediately. He confronted them asking that they take it to a room and children were on board. They were extremely gross. Staff was called. No help was given!!!

On the last night at 12:30am there was a huge hall party in our hall. Except the only guests from out hall were the kids in the family veranda. Kids were pounding on doors screaming yelling etc. Called security and it literally rang for 15 minutes. No help. When help finally did come because I left to room to find help, they did NOTHING to help.

The kids from that room went in to crank call our room and several others all thru the night. We unplugged our phone. Today I got a bill for unplugging our phone. Thanks for that Celebrity!!! Much love to you also.

We did chose to have as nice a cruise as we could. There were many nice kids mingled in. And problem was not the kids with drink packages. The problem was kids with rum runners. Maybe if they secured the ability to bring rum runners on board it would be helpful.

Ok, that is a much more concerning situation than any of the previous posters. I would be irate if that happened to my family.

As I mentioned before, my wife and I are loyal Celebrity cruisers and are willing to accept this as an outlier to the many other wonderful trips we have had with them. However, it seems like the staff, especially the officers really dropped the ball here. Almost to the point of negligence as it becomes clearer how very aware of the problems they were. I can't believe Celebrity's official poster hasn't acknowledged this thread yet. If nothing else, an apology would go a long way considering how poorly this sailing was managed.

What is even more interesting is the reviews from those that just disembarked the cruise immediately after ours and had nothing close to last weeks debacle. I really believe if they would have just enforced their code of conduct from day 1 this would have looked like a different trip for many of us.

Also, has anyone heard back from Celebrity yet? I sent an email off several days ago to the new CEO and received the auto confirmation but haven't seen anything else nor heard that anyone else has.

  16. they seemingly did enforce it by removing people from the ship.....we are all there to have a good time....and what a person does at 20 is different than at 60....the line has a hard time balancing the issues and trying to provide the best experiance for all.....even how you view the code of conduct would probably be different than how someone in a significantly different age bracket would. As to the product being delivered....they did deliver.....another passenger annoying you does not make it Celebrity's problem unless they allow it TOTALLY out of hand and mak no effort to tone things down.....they are cruise ship operators ....not police

If you weren't on the cruise then I really don't think you can understand how totally inept Celebrity seemed to be. They were unprepared and completely unable to take action besides making the same announcements regarding drinking age and dress code in the ship's public areas. You can announce the rules all you want but if you don't enforce them, you can't reasonably expect them to be followed. In fact, the envelope tends to be pushed and the situation usually deteriorates.

Although I have sympathy for those involved when bad things happen like this, I have to agree that the growing entitlement culture is pretty unsettling. There's a difference between negligence, inaction, etc. and sometimes, 'stuff happens'. Where that line is drawn is an individual choice I'm sure, but it seems to me that increasingly, every instance of issues must be someone's fault and therefore what can I get for it.

Based on the information provided in this case, I would have complained too - in an effort to have things changed. However, I would not have asked for or expected anything else.

There is no sense of entitlement for most of us. Sure, we are disappointed Celebrity couldn't hold up their end of the bargain. I wrote an email to the new CEO detailing my concerns but didn't ask for a thing. Would it be nice if they offered something as a gesture, sure. It would be the wise business thing to do. When a mistake is made by a person or company, the best course of action is to own it and move on towards repairing that relationship and making improvements in order to not make the same mistakes tomorrow.

  17. I was on this cruise. You hit the nail on the head. It was all about enforcement of the rules. Celebrity clearly did not enforce the rules. It is all on them. And I am not talking the regular staff....I am talking about management on the ship. They seemed intimidated and frozen in place. Pretty sad. As I said on our Roll Call - the inmates were running the asylum!

(Having said that, we still had a great cruise! :))

I agree 100%, even though it was probably my worst cruise experience we still had a great time on our vacation!

  18. For all of the non-believers on here stating the OP should have known better, I would like to know how many of you were on this sailing.

My wife and I are Celebrity loyalists (Elite) and under age 30. We love the Celebrity product and generally the people on it. We are not too far removed from our college days but I could write a book on the poor behavior by many (not all) of the college spring breakers on this cruise. We did expect a college party atmosphere on this sailing and were somewhat prepared for a rowdier crown than normal. My wife is a teacher and so our choices this time of year are limited to school breaks. We are also expecting our first baby this summer so this was our last hurrah for a little while.

Like many others on this thread we were booked in AQ and while the service in Blu was impeccable some of the dishes were hit and miss. But I want to primarily address the issue of the behavior of the college aged spring breakers. As has been stated here by almost every poster that was on this sailing, their behavior was unbelievable and inexcusable. These passengers were so rude it was like they were trying to start something up. Constantly unyielding when walking 3-5 wide in public spaces practically mowing you over. Drunkenly shoving through 2 and 4 people deep at the poolside bars to get another drink. Screaming all over the place and more F-bombs than you can imagine. While I'm no saint, the pool deck with families around is certainly no place for screaming obscenities. I am a frequent customer in the casino and even there I wasn't immune from their drunken behavior. Loudly and rudely asking for a bar server to come over when they were clearly already over served. The muster drill alone in the casino should have given the staff grounds to be concerned and come up with a plan of action.

While I'm disappointed with the behavior of the college kids they are college kids. I'm more upset with Celebrity for failing to enforce a code of conduct and ensure a safe environment for all passengers. Instead of constantly making unheeded announcements, staff should have been given the tools to enforce the dress code in public areas. Instead of fueling the fire of drunkenness, bartenders should be equipped and trained to identify passengers who have been served plenty and not fear for making the call that someone is cutoff. This is type of behavior in any land based bar is potentially grounds for a lawsuit and increases the possibility of an accident. It is no secret almost all passengers overboard are a result of being highly intoxicated. Celebrity needed to do a better job of identifying the problems and addressing them head on. On the first sea day, my wife and I were at the pool enjoying the sunny weather. I had a mojito and my wife had a lemonade in the pool plastic glasses and were sitting on the tanning deck of the children's pool when the Celebrity life activities started up. When the competition moved to the pool for synchronized swimming my wife and I were harassed several times for having beverages in the pool while many of the college spring breakers were in the pool drinking beers out of glass bottles. Not a word was said to any of them. I'm not sure if the staff were intimidated to the point of inaction and felt their only outlet of recourse were other passengers but it was very disappointing. I even pointed out the sign on all pools that said "No glassware" and she said its now no drinks as she walked off leaving all the kids with their glass bottles in hand.

I have rambled long enough now but my overall experience was still a vacation that we enjoyed. It definitely could have been improved if Celebrity had just enforced the rules they were so routinely announcing.

  19. Excellent!

Not too excited about this. I'm not a cigarette smoker but have an occasional cigar. The only enjoyable place was the Sunset bar and now that's gone. Given the wind and size of that space and how narrow it is at the very middle of the ship it seemed like an ideal place to keep the port side for smoking.

Sailing this Saturday and kind of bummed I won't be able to enjoy my sailaway cigar :(

  20. Wife and I are both 29. I have been cruising since my early teens and been on Royal and Norwegian. My wife has been on Royal and Disney and by far our favorite is Celebrity. Based on what we have seen/heard in reviews, neither of us have a desire to try Carnival. In fact, we are both very happy with the "blend" and product that Celebrity offers. Our honeymoon was on Royal and while it was great (because it was our honeymoon), we both wish it would have been on X (dates didn't work on X).

We are both pretty outgoing and like to gamble, hang out by the pool and have drinks throughout the cruise at least while in the Caribbean. We have always found Celebrity to be just about a perfect fit for our preferences in nightlife, organized activities, and other amenities. I do wish the food would get back to closer to the days of Michel Roux but overall we really have no reason to book elsewhere.
