If such things interest you and you have the time with El Yunque, there is a big outlet mall at Rio Grande, where the toll road ends on the way to El Yunque...
This is good to know because we are going in a couple days ahead of our Cruise just to see El Yunque. Do you know the name of the outlet mall?

You can get lobster, but it will be a $20 charge as part of the Steakhouse Selections. We just sailed the Fantasy last month. We loved the ship, but did not particularly care for the port of Progreso.

"Steakhouse Selections" is just a part of the menu that has steak (obviously) items but in other words there is no separate steakhouse restaurant? Was there any additional cost for the steakhouse selections?

OP, I feel for you. We are leaving for our first 7 day cruise in a week. I am prone to sea sickness, sea legs, etc. On our last cruise, which was 5 days I took meclizine everyday and was okay.
For this cruise I am already equipped with my non drowsy Dramamine (same as meclizine?) but will do like I did last time and start taking it the night before the cruise sets sail and maybe even for the flight. Though we are flying in 2 days before our cruise sets sail.
One thing I am glad about our 7 day cruise is that we are stopping in 6 ports. I say 6 because we don't even start sailing until 10 pm the first day.
But OP hope you are okay on your cruise. :)

Interesting thread. Just getting past the first couple of pages...
Never pack 15 pair of shoesHow long was this cruise?

Cruise during Spring Break (US & Canadian) when there are nearly 700 kids on board. I learned my lesson, it only took once. Most horrible cruise ever. I opt out of cruising at that time or take a very long cruise not likely to be packed with kids.
What cruise line was this?
Roll callsWhy not?

We are Cruising the Fascination next month out of San Juan and we had to register a check in time of 1:00 (that's all that was avail) so I was wondering if FTTF was still worth it. But from what I found is you can check in earlier than that registered time if you have FTTF. So we will keep ours. And since we are flying in a few days ahead of the Cruise we will then go straight from our Hotel to the Ship.
Yes head of the line is great!

Which tour are you considering?
Tour #1 stops in Marigot for 60 minutes (plenty of time for a snack, not a full meal) and at Maho for 45 minutes, same comment.
Tour #2 is at Orient for 90-120 minutes, so plenty of time for anything, Marigot for 30 minutes for a very quick snack, and Maho 45 minutes for a snack or better.
gary
We would probably go with Tour #1 because actually what we've decided we would like to do is go to the Hard Rock cafe. Hopefully it's close to the Port.

We're doing late dining, this time after doing a couple of early dining cruises. We simply got tired of when we came back from excursions then had to rush for dinner.
-
Thinking about booking with Bernard's as well but wondering if on any beach stops or any stops will there be a chance to get something to eat? We're not so concerned about swimming as we will have a diabetic in our party.
-
So since we haven't purchased a beverage package for our upcoming Carnival Cruise then we can bring our favorite cups to dinner? And it sounds like we should fill them with a beverage say from the buffet?
-
There are no assigned dining times the first night, it's open seating for everyone.
Thanks for that. So people just start lining up at about 5 or so...?
-
I've heard that they close the Dining Rooms about 8:30 to make sure everyone gets to the drill... So I'm THINKING it'll be about 9:00..??
GT
What if you have late dining? It just gets disrupted then you go back to dinner?
-
Thanks for that. Hoping for better weather in March.
-
Uh oh you can feel the rocking?! Now I'm scared as I'm already prone to sea sickness
What was the reason for the rough seas especially in January? We're going in March...

Thanks for that!

We did the Harrison's Cave tour through RCCL. The tour was run by Foster-Ince. The bus was clean and comfortable, and the driver narrated as we drove to the caves. The island is pretty and reminded us of Kauai (minus the mountains). The caverns are very interesting and the guide was excellent. Very professional. Now, if you've been to Carlsbad Caverns as I have you won't be wowed as much, but I still found the tour fun and interesting.
Harrison Caves are on which of the Islands?
I'm not familiar with the tours that NCL offers, but when we were there a few years ago we did the volcano hike. We moved at a quick pace to get to the top and there were some sections that were a bit of a climb as opposed to a hike but it was well worth it once we got to the top. Beautiful. Be sure to bring water and if they offer you a walking stick, take it. You may not need it for the first half but you'll appreciate it on the top half of the volcano. We were pretty muddy once we were done but it was a great alternative to the many snorkeling tours in the Caribbean. And the Volcanoes are on which Island?
Thanks

I know the taxis are a flat rate inside San Juan, but I'm not sure about out around the island. I rented a car to get to Rio Grande - it gave me freedom to go outside the resort area for food and activities.
If you are going to do a tour of El Yunque instead of DIY, check with the Concierge services at the hotel you book to see who they use for any El Yunque tour and if they pick up at Hotel. Or, if you book on your own, just ask before putting down your money.
I would definitely NOT wear those Nikes unless you want to re-color them brown
Will definitely check with the Hotel to see what touring company they recommend for El Yunque. Thanks for that tip as well as the one about the sneakers. This may make me keep the old ones until this trip.
Anyone have any link for where the Carnival Fascination will be docking at what port in San Juan? As well as a link for taxi info...TIA

We are looking into getting a room at the Wyndham. I thought I read that taxi's are a flat rate, is that true? Because our next concern will be getting from the Port to the Hotel then the airport.
And I hope that our touring company we sign up with will not have any issues picking us up from our Hotel.
And now to look into shoes with traction maybe because I definitely wanted to see La Mins falls. My new Nike Air (in white ) that I am getting for Christmas don't sound like they are for this job...
-
Not sure what area this is in but how about hotel located around Plaza las Americas.:)
-
We took our time at the falls but if i remember it took at least 5 hours with the hike. We were taken to the visitors center and after 5 minutes i asked to continue on. Might be good for some but i was more interested in other things, by skipping the center we were able to also hike to another fall and pool.
Hoping to do something like this. Looking for a Hotel to stay at that is nearby.

So in summary if you can get just a pass you have access to; pool? beach? restaurant?
Whereas if you purchase the day room pass you get access to all the above? And can you do room service since you'll have a room?
Just not sure what else to do in St Kitts...
-
The website is Puerto Rico Cruise excursion here is the link to the tour. Pretty easy to find them.
Since your staying maybe you can tour to the airport like i did!
If you book let me know how it went. Just would like to know if their service is still good, want to use them again when i return.
Thanks for that link. Will definitely contact them.

I have done the hike and is pretty nice. What was great was when i entered the water and walked under the fall. That was what i liked the most!
I used the same company for all my tours, were the least expensive out there. That said i did a private tour and did pay a little more but was still way less than the other quotes i got. The best pat was they kept my luggage for us during our trip which saved us alot of time.
What touring companies did you use, as we are staying a couple days after our Cruise to specifically do this.

Was thinking about taking the Skyride to Paradise Point. Anyone ever done this? How long is it and do you have to reserve ahead of time?

Going on a 7 day with 3 additional days staying in our Port so hoping the sneakers I'm wearing as well as the pair of sandals and flip flops are enough. As well as the swim shoes.
