  1. Speaking of etiquette ... just a few notes .... climbing over my wheelchair to get in the elevator, dropping your kid in my lap so there is room for you to squeeze in or fart in my face (think about it ... being at butt level isn't a perk) and laugh is pretty poor etiquette as well.

Let's all be kind to each other ... it's not hard and you're mom would be proud of you.

Thank you for bringing some logic back to this thread. And, it sounds like those things happened to you - outrageous.

  2. People would be surprised how many who can afford to book suites sail in regular cabins. The type of cabin folks book many times has nothing to do with how much money they have.

So true! The wealthiest people I know sail in inside cabins.

  3. I like this post but it is a touchy subject. In my opinion and what I've learned in my short time on earth, money talks. If you pay more for this special stateroom, just like if you pay more for 1st class on an airplane, or pay more money for better seats at a concert, you should get what you pay for and any of the perks that come with.

I've never been in a suite but I aspire to it! A 1%-er! I'm working hard to achieve that level of affluence where I could justify that splurge.:)

And like the other person said, I'm sure these suite guests (most of who are retired) are not chomping at the bit to ride and HOG the flowrider over and over, lol.

  4. I think it was brave of you to share your story and you did it in a true reflecting tone. So often I hear people gripe. RCI "WOULDN"T LET ME ON"!!

I'm truly sorry this happened to you and it sounds like a combination of events led up to that nightmare. It sounds like you didn't even stay in Fort Lauderdale but went home. I'm so sorry for you I missed a family flight to the bahamas once and everyone went but me and I had a meltdown in the airport. I was travelling from tallahassee, joining them in Miami. My mom had my passport in Miami but they wouldn't let me board because I didn't have it. ARGH!!!

  5. I am excited to go on oasis of the seas again in June. To keep that momentum up I've been watching videos of people on the cruise or that have cruised. Some of these are room tours. I just watched one and the passengers were opening the desk drawers to show the space then they opened a few and nonchalantly said "this is where I keep my dirty underwear and dirty socks"

I'm not a squeamish person at all nor a clean freak but I found that to be a total gross out. I honestly never thought of wiping the desk drawers down before i used them and I've taken umpteen cruises but after seeing this person's video, I will not be using these drawers without cleaning them myself with wipes or something. I don't know why someone would use the desk drawers for their dirty undergarments.

  6. Just wondering as a health care professional asked and I have no experience with this and do not know. So I said I'd ask the "experts" on CC. Now I remember why I rarely ask a question on these boards...

you are the one who claimed it was you in your original post.

I'm always leary of going to the ship's doctor for fear of being quarantined!
  7. It's true...we just got off Allure on the 15th and the whole time, I was a little miffed at the lack of enforcement of at least SOME of the dress code "rules" on Formal Nights. It's 2 nights...2 nights to dress up and look pretty...but people still insist on coming in the MDR with shorts, tshirts and flip flops...next to men in tuxedos and women in gowns. It's frustrating :(

I get it...the cruise industry is changing, no one likes to dress up anymore. But it's 2 nights...2 nights! At least wear khakis or pants...ditch the shorts, tshirts and flip flops for 2 nights...

I agree with you! The waiters will never enforce it because they want tips. Also the people truly dressing in shorts and tank tops and ball caps, on Formal night in the MDR - you know they do it on purpose....they are trying to get a rise out of people who choose to dress in tuxes and gowns.

I think on formal night people should make effort. I frankly would be uncomfortable in such a beautiful setting dressed sloppy.

  8. I don't want water or tea without ice - ugh! I drink water 98% of the time and wow, what a chore to get ice in Europe. I always asked nicely but you'd have thought I was asking for a kidney.

When I first went to England in the 80s I couldn't find ice (nor anyone wearing denim) but my most recent trip in 2012 Ice was EVERYwhere (not sure of other areas of EU) Also, people wearing Jeans..... I was in London so maybe that is why.

  9. Our standard requests:

    *2 extra feather pillows

    *ice twice a day

    *robes

    *2 extra bath towels

    *extra hangars

    *remove sodas, water etc.

*beds apart (we always ask beforehand but they're usually together)

    *2 wine glasses

*egg crate mattress topper (if needed)

    Harry

That's a lot of requests but they make sense. How much does that cost you in tips if you don't mind me asking. I usually tip the steward $20 the first day (on top of pre pay) and ask that the ice bucket stays full. I would say the above would be worth $50.00

  10. As an FSU alumni and I have a niece that is going there right now, I can tell you spring breakers (the partying ones) for the most part are not going on a cruise. Panama City Beach is dead to spring breakers too from cracking down on alcohol. It still seems to be South Padre Island and Mexico (cancun) for spring break. You will find some college students travelling with family on the cruise, but not the rowdy typically drunken college parties.

  11. IMHO...until a child can tell you where it hurts I do not think he/she should go on a cruise. It.s all about an emergency situation for me. However, on my last 3 cruises since January I have seen many more infants than toddlers on ships.....so no one seems to be concerned.

I agree, your children are your most precious treasures. Why put them in harms way unnecessarily?

  12. We had MTD on the oasis 2 years ago and never had to wait more than 5 minutes. We ate in the MDR every night but the first night. We are in the entry level of the C&A club, not Gold Card people. We are going again in June I truly hope the wait is not an hour as others have posted.

  13. We were assigned a forward room on our last cruise and ending up loving it! The cabins are also soo much bigger than shown due to the slope of the ship. We loved it so much we booked another forward cabin by choice this June on the oasis-deck 10. you will not be sorry. On the oasis though you will have to close your curtains at night, captain request. Our layout was with the sofa by the window.

Another reason I love the forward room is my favorite parts of the ship (Oasis) were forward so it was super convenient.

I agree would not book a balcony room with a toddler.

  14. Sheesh. Who the heck cares what these people make? Are they providing a service? Then respond accordingly. Whey do people always have to bring salaries into it?

By the way, porters are not stevedores. Stevedores are the men and women loading and unloading cargo ships all day every day. The men who take your bags curbside are simply porters...nothing more.

    Exactly!!!

  15. Come on now. Don't lie to prove your point.

Someone making 40k a year absolutely does not qualify for assistance. A family of two cannot net more then 16k a year to qualify for snap (it hasn't been called food stamps in many years) A family of four cannot have a net income of more then 25k to qualify. To use your salary amount they would have to be a family over eight people.

Here is the income to qualify for SNAP

    http://www.benefits.gov/benefits/benefit-details/1244

So a family of 3, husband wife and child who make under $40,000 can get snap. A family of 2, Husband and stay at home wife who make less than $31,000 get snap.

I apologize for calling it food stamps, I'm a bit older and that's what they sued to call it. Thanks for correcting me about SNAP.

  16. What's your source on the wages? It has long been said that porters are unionised long shoremen making very good cash.

That's from the state of florida welfare website, and i have a relative that works in the "snap" office. that is what is is in 2016. Actually someone making under $48,000 and a family of 3 to be exact! $40,000 and a family of 2 is poverty level. google it BeachChik don't take my word for it.

And my whole point was encouraging folks to be generous. I was making a point that $10.18 as a salary and who knows if it's 40 hours a week is not exactly raking in the dough. What does an extra dollar hurt you?
