  1. my notifications weren't popping up so I missed a lot of the responses.

THANK YOU to those who were kind enough not to treat me like an idiot. It's those people who reach out with actual answers that make people want to come back ... Cheers to you!

Because I AM an idiot... fwiw, I misused the term headliner.

I actually was thinking of the big show like Chicago or Hairspray (it wasn't listed as an entertainment option so I wasn't sure if THAT was "the headliner" -- apparently not).

But where I was "lacking in knowledge" was realizing these are two different events and not one in the same. Shocking for a seasoned cruiser such as myself, I know...

Thanks again, everyone for the headliner information, because I honestly didn't know there was such a wide array of possibilities for that part of the entertainment. Silly me. :p

  2. I'm helping a friend book an Alaskan cruise... I am loyal to Royal (well, and Disney, but I don't think she would do a Disney cruise)... but I'm seeing that other lines have less expensive pricing for their Alaskan cruises. Personally, I would still pick RCL, but for those of you who have traveled other lines, what can I point her to in terms of one line or the other.

for example... the only thing I know about NCL is that they only serve Pepsi products.... that may sway ME, but not other people... :D LMAO

another example... Carnival is more the "fun ship" and Celebrity may not attract as many "young families" (these are the stereotypes I've heard, not that I know this for sure).

But if you saw a $500 difference between similar sailings, what other than price would sway you to one line over another?

    TIA!

  3. I guess it's not so much about my own true laziness as it is the fact that when I go on a cruise, half the appeal is disconnecting from the world. About the question at hand, if it's REALLY an emergency, I don't want to get a text that says "Grandma died" or "your house burned down". Call me old fashioned, but my first inclination would be to TALK to someone. I'd rather have a 5 minute conversation on the phone than spend an hour texting to try and get all of the details.

    To each their own...

  4. I probably wouldn't suggest anyone in my family text me or try calling because I've gotten hit with roaming charges and won't ever make that mistake again, so the cell phone gets shut off and put in the safe for the duration of the cruise.

I've always gives the 800 number and let the person know that they would have to have a credit card. If it's a true emergency, they won't mind paying the charges.

  5. Ship - Adventure of the Seas

    Deck - 8

    Stateroom # - 8354

Stateroom Category – D1: Superior Balcony

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – No obstructions

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal -- has two chairs and a small table (could also fit the glass coffee table from the cabin that we moved out there to give us more space inside)

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - Aft of Midship, but no issue

Any specific problems with this cabin? - No

Any other comments? - Great location, not far from stairs and elevators. Quiet. Good amount of storage, especially for a family of 4. Slept 4 with mom and dad in queen bed and kids in sofa pulled out. With older kids, they would have preferred a pullman, rather than sleeping together, but it worked out fine.

  6. The only thing in the terminal for Royal Caribbean is a waiting area and a liquor store. Not sure what you are looking for.

    -Kristi

    that's a start :p

I've been to Disney's terminal at Port Canaveral and RCL's at Port Everglades. Both, like I said, are just check in and "waiting areas" to board the ship. I have seen on CC that Pan American has "stuff" and it being a novel concept to me that there would be ANYTHING other than a waiting area, I was just curious as to what to expect (having a last stop for alkie purchases is intriguing, especially when it's not allowed onboard, except for 2 bottles of wine).

  7. We are departing from Pan American pier on Royal Caribbean next month. I keep hearing little bits and pieces about certain amenities at the terminal. I've never been to a terminal that has "anything" in it, other than a waiting area. Can anyone describe what the terminal is like and what's in it? Any pictures? (I tried looking up You Tube but couldn't find anything)

    TIA

  8. Does anyone who has sailed recently know how much the Unlimited Photo Package is if you were to purchase onboard? Through the reservations link on RCL it's showing as $279 (just the digital images), but someone mentioned that there might be a Crown & Anchor coupon once onboard so I wasn't sure if it was more or less... or if I should just pull the trigger and buy it now.

(Sailing in less than 5 weeks)

  9. I would not have been pleased AT.ALL. Even looking at deck plans, it might not be readily obvious that there IS indeed obstructed view.

You should fill out a cabin review for this thread. It'll help others be aware -- http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1223724

(and like someone else posted within here, I wish that post would be stickied, or if they would make threads for each ship -- it would be such a great thing for people to have readily available access to!)

  10. how does Bully take payment? Before the ship sails (i.e., now/at booking)? Or when we arrive and do our tour?

If it's before the ship sails, does he take credit card?

Assuming it's it's when we arrive it would be cash.

Also... what happens if the ship needs to alter the itinerary mid-sailing? Does he keep track of when the ships come into port.

I know this is subjective -- but if you have done this before, have you tipped above and beyond the $45/hr?

  11. only on Page 1 of your trip review and loving it! We are going on Adventure in April, and you have me so excited.

My teenage daughter is reading along with me and she LOVES your dress on the first formal night (post #33 -- http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=31890427&postcount=33). Would you have any information on it -- where you got it, who makes it, etc?

    THANKS! On to reading more......................
