  1. In  Arizona, things are looking normal.  Shelves are stocked.  Restaurants are requiring a mask when you come in and up until you  order, then it can be removed.  Masks are by state (governor) order.  Restaurants have tables spaced a bit, but not so noticeable as before.

Edited to add:  We are all back at church, too.  Movie theatres are open and spaced a bit.  Kids are back in school full time.

You can also pick up a van tour at the dock that will give you a custom tour.  There are a couple of them run by local Tlingits who know a lot about the local culture and history.

We will check that out.  Thanks!

The taxi that dropped us off at Totem Bight gave us a card so we could call to have them come back if needed and that's what we ended up doing. When we were there, we didn't see any taxis hanging out to pick up fares. I'd recommend that you either arrange with the driver to return for you at a specific time or have a number to call. We had decent cell service there.

We had walked around town and visited the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center before going out to Totem Bight. At that point, we hadn't seen any taxis queued for fares near the port so we asked about taxis at the Discovery Center desk and they gave us a number to call. A taxi picked us up within a few minutes (my husband had just enough time to go across the street and by a mocha to feed his addiction before it arrived). If you want to be more prepared than us, you might get a couple of taxi company numbers beforehand.

    Great idea and thanks!

  4. Thank you all for the information.  It is exactly what we needed to know.  We'll take a taxi there and I assuming we can get one back?  We'll see how much time we have left for shopping afterwards.

    Love your pictures!

  5. Has anyone been to the Totems in Ketchikan without taking a tour?  We want to see them but we don't want to do the Lumberjack show or canoeing combined with it.  Is it far?  Is there public transportation like bus or taxi? Is it close enough to walk?

  6. When we were going to Pisa, we rode a train going to the direction of "La Spezia" which was the last stop for that train route... Maybe, that's what she meant?? Like a train heading to Civitavecchia but it will not be the final stop..???

Last February, I was visiting Florence with friends and we kept on looking for the train labelled as "PISA" (as we were going to see the Leaning Tower)... but in actuality the train we were supposed to be looking for was called "LA SPEZIA" which will make a stop at Pisa. We were kinda confused in the beginning but it didn't take too long to figure out! :)

    That could be it!

We decided that we would ask at the Civita train station when we buy our tickets--exactly what train to look for.

    Thanks!

  7. The station is definitely Civitavecchia. You can even look on the Trenitalia website and print the schedule between Roma Termini and Civitavecchia for the day you will be in port so you'll know exactly which trains you'd like to take.

For example, the day we were in port, the trains from Roma Termini to Civitavecchia were very frequent. I searched for later afternoon trains and found them departing at 4:12pm, 4:45pm, 4:57pm (Frecciabianca), 5:12pm, 5:27pm, etc etc...

Good to know! Apparently, when three of my friends were going from Rome back to Civita, the train listed for that said something different and it was confusing. Maybe they changed that.

  8. Upon arriving at the train station, we bought a BIRG ticket (approximately 12E/adult and 5E/child). This ticket is good on all trains/buses/subways. Remember to validate it by sticking it in the little ticket punch machine prior to jumping on the train!

The morning trains into Rome's Termini station are plentiful. I had printed the schedules in advance from the Trenitalia website, so I knew which ones we were hoping to take. For example, on the morning we were heading in, there was a 7:19am, 7:44am, 7:58am, 8:42am, 8:59am, 9:18am, etc etc. All of the journeys ranged from 1 hour, 5 minutes to 1 hours, 25 minutes. There were also Frecciabianca trains coming less frequently (speed trains), however the price was 28E/way, and the journey, still 45 minutes. And my understanding is that these trains aren't always faster, because they frequently are delayed in their arrival times...

So, we hopped on the 9:18am train to Rome's Termini station and arrived at 10:43am.

    ...

What is the name of the station in Civita? Someone said it is NOT listed as Civitavecchia so we are wondering about the trip back to the ship and what termini station we look for.

These are great for the nightstand. Pack flat and when you snap them together they hold everything you put on the nightstand top--keeps things like watches, earrings, etc from falling behind the nightstand and under the bed. I always take off my watch and earrings and put them there.

  10. We were on the Celebrity Equinox and someone became ill and had to be evacuated by helicopter. Now, that in itself isn't strange. But what was unusual was that there had to be at least a thousand people out on deck to watch the evacuation. And when it was done safely, the applause and cheering would have led one to believe they just saw the end of the Super Bowl!

Happens every time! We always like to see our Coast Guard in action. When they do their awesome job, we celebrate a successful evac. They are our heroes.

  11. On our December Navigator, a grown woman passenger, who appeared sane otherwise, wore Pajamas and big animal slippers everywhere, all day (she did change out to different PJs - although they mostly looked flannel). She wore them to breakfast; she wore them to line dancing and trivia; she wore them drinking cocktails, and she wore them in the prominade (and thats just the places I saw her.) Now that was very strange. It didn't bother me either - its her vacation.

We had a lady like that on one of our cruises. Wore a dog or bunny suit the whole time and was mostly in the bar trying to pick up buys.

  12. Jimmy's C-side BBQ is totally worth the wait. I usually take a book and go hang out on that side of the ship before they open so I'm ready to get in line. But honestly................do you have an appointment to hurry off to?

All ships had Lido buffet issues (pre-toasted bread and bagels) so I get grits to dip them in and exercise patience in the omelette line..............or......go to the MDR for breakfast.

I'm not all that fond of the American Table, but I normally order other items (off menu) that I am most fond of.

If you want chicken tenders and fries in the afternoons, stick to the smaller ships like Imagination and Inspiration size.
