If I need the internet package and that's all I need?  That would be great!!!  So it will only cost me the daily internet charge?

Who is your cell provider?   If for some reason you don’t have WiFi calling. There are other options.

If you mother has a cell phone you both have iPhones you can call over WiFi using FaceTime.

Or download what’s app and use that again assuming you both have cell phones.

The other option is to download the google voice app and signup.  It’s free to make calls with over WiFI but I’m not sure how RC identifies there internet as Voice doesn’t work from some countries.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

700+ (and counting) people on the Diamond Princess have tested positive, and they were

    largely confined to their cabins.

What method of transmission do you suggest in this case?

Any hard surface the first infected person touched.  It could be there was a super spreader (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.livescience.com/amp/coronavirus-superspreader-south-korea-church.html) on board that went to Windjammer and touched a lot of utensils.

The incubation period is 1-14 days (some reports have cases linked to over 20 days).  So the folks on board could have all been infected around the same time prior to the quarantine being put in place.  They just didn’t all show symptoms.  80% of cases are mild and look like the common cold.

Or a member of the crew (food staff) could have been asymtomatic and it spread through their handling of food/kitchen items/plates/trays..

  3. Here are a few options.  Some extreme others make more senses.

    1. stop sailing completely

    2.  not allow anyone on board that has traveled  to/through a country with an outbreak of greater than X people unless 30 days has passed (15 days could also be an option)

    3. Sail but at the first sign someone has (runny nose, fever, cough, stomach issues or any other type of cold/flu symptoms) isolate immediately and kick them off the ship at the next port of call.
    4. Combination of 2 and 3

    5.  Roll the dice do basic screenings and hope for the best

Well she's just left Port Klang in the last hour.  Destination is stated as Singapore ETA 0700hrs 4 March 2020.  We are booked on 4 April 2020 sailing so will be the next scheduled cruise for the ship.  I find it hard to believe she is just going to hang around for the next 5 weeks.   Surely they must be considering repositioning?

To where though?  I’m sure they’ve had discussions but...  Australia already has Spectrum for a few months.  There are now issues in Italy and who knows what could be next.   A breakout could occur in North America and then what?   There is one report of a person that returned home to BC Canada from Iran healthy and came down with symptoms.  Unfortunately 80% of people show symptoms like the common cold and you are contagious before symptoms present themselves (unlike SARS where a temperature is found before being contagious)

It will start getting warmer in Asia in the next month and hopefully the virus dies quicker in the heat and humidity.  So they may just want to wait it out.

I'm guessing Royal wish they knew what the future holds for the ship.

Yup and now with an outbreak in Italy they may need to calculate what to do with Cruises in the Mediterranean if things spread.   There are still too many unknowns so RC is taking it slow.  It’s unfortunate for those that need to travel to catch a cruise but no one could have predicted this.

  6. 1) If gratuities aren’t included then 14.50 or 17.50 (suites) a day per person.

The rest are if you want them.

    2) Any Specialty drinks you consume or get a drink package 9.99-70 per day (search boards for drink packages). Each persons different I don’t see a need for it.

    3) Specialty dining can be 21.99 for lunch to a few hundred for the unlimited specialty dining plan

    4) Internet per device

    5) The Key (see sticky at top of board.)

I think one of the reasons that the remainder of the cruises from Singapore could be cancelled is the due to the updated details on the R.C. website in the past 24 hours to include Singapore and Thailand for the specialized screenings. Not sure how long they take but everyone would have to be done at the start and end of the cruise and also getting off and on in Phuket, Thailand.

    • There will be mandatory specialized health screenings performed on:
      • Any guest who has travelled from, to, or through Iran, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, or Thailand in the past 15 days.

This could be a good reason but soon it maybe a lot more countries.  Italy has had a jump in cases to 30! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nst.com.my/node/568013/amp

We’ll definitely do that. Probably bring a glass with us to dinner and then drink a glass from the purchased bottle. That’s our plan right now. But someone told me you're only suppose to drink that wine in the cabin? Not sure if that’s a rule or not though.

No you can drink it anywhere (by the pool I’d ask for a plastic cup).  You can ask your cabin steward for glasses and a corkscrew.

Now if you bring it to dinner the waiter is supposed to charge a corkage fee but from our experience and reading other threads they usually do not.

We’ve also brought a bottle to dinner not finished it and they’ll hold it for the next day as well.

  9. According to a post on a social site that follows quantum a person linked to a post by the cruise director.  It’s been posted the Quantum is on a 18 day sail to nowhere and hopefully will dock in Singapore.  So basically the two 9 days became a crew only cruise.

I’m assuming this is to show the ship doesn’t have any sick crew and then if conditions improve continue to sail out of Singapore.  If things don’t improve it’s anyone’s guess what happens next.

How do the free drinks work in the Casino for Prime Members?  Do you have to be at a machine or table playing, and wait til someone comes and offers you a drink, or can you just go up to the bar and order anything?

All those options work.  The prime designation printed on your card (or sticker) is all you need.  You show it to any of the servers/bartenders in the casino to get a drink.

I live in Minnesota and woke up to -33 windchill.  Obviously we don’t have access to outdoor water parks, so waiting in line with friends and family for 20-30 minutes in order to enjoy a water slide isn’t a burden.  Its all relative.

I’d save the money and put it towards a weekend in the Wisconsin Dell area (depending on how far away you are)

...The company is already losing a lot of money themselves due to the canceled itineraries. They should not have to absorb any of the expenses of inconvenienced passengers when this isn't their fault. That's what travel insurance is for.

    This just in https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.marketwatch.com/amp/story/guid/58A63858-0B99-4AA7-8536-8D8837F620D2

So they already know part of the financial hit. Goodwill is ok but they also have a duty to their stock holders to minimize the losses.

X Millennium has just cancelled all her Asian cruises and will be relocating early back to the West coast of USA.

X Constellation has amended her Singapore-Dubai-Singapore itineraries and will now be doing Dubai round trips.

I wonder if RCI will now also relocate Quantum or Spectrum to USA or Europe.

    Making lemonade...

or hang around take the hit and be first back to market.  Could be a good advertising campaign for the China market we stayed near by to serve.

I'm also interested if anyone from Australia where English is their first language has been on a Culturally Enriching Cruise from Singapore. Like zeppgirl, I'm interested in the quality of entertainment on board. If I don't speak Chinese, will there be any entertainment that I can enjoy?

It depends on the port you leave out of from my understanding.  We took a cruise out of Singapore in Dec and thought it was great.  The main show was in Mandarin but the other venues had English shows/entertainment.

We are supposed to take a cruise from Shanghai in August and I’ve been reading almost all the acts are in Mandarin (Spectrum of the Seas was made for the Chinese market)

I’ve heard cruises from Hong Kong are

more like the ones out of Singapore but haven’t done to much research on them.

When was the cancelled cruise due to start?

The 15th.  Originally a Singapore to Hong Kong cruise (9 nights) and then a Hong Kong to Singapore cruise.  I believe they changed it to roundtrip about 2 weeks ago along with adjusting the ports of call.

Once again rccl is very slow in making a decision. And not giving any info til practically time of sailing. Very frustrating.

Yet had they cancelled earlier and the situation changed for the better everyone would be complaining too.  I think this has to do with the Holland Westerdam and not being allowed to dock.  RCI was probably in negotiations with the port of calls but couldn’t work out a deal.  It looks like it maybe longer than these two cruises.  Reading the last line of the letter “The Singapore market remains of great importance to us and we look forward to returning there very soon.“. What could soon mean?

Dining room dress code? You just lit the fuse. For your own sake, stand well back and don’t take anything that follows too seriously. You’ll be blamed for everything from faking the moon landing to global warming before this thread ends.

Well let’s try and prevent that.   The search function from the phone is horrible imho.

Here’s two good threads to start with.  Maybe a sticky can be created one day for this topic.

  18. Depending on what you want to do with your vacation , the good news is Singapore has a lot of inexpensive flights to other places in the area.  There is a Singapore based site that lets you look for airfare to “everywhere”.  Search google for “sky scan airfare singapore” and it should show up.

They also probably didn’t want to end up like the Westerdam a ship without a port to go to or were already told by some of the ports they wouldn’t be able to dock
