  1. whether it be land or sea the plane ride gets to me....i was sick after every vacation regardless of where it was until i started wearing a mask at least on the way down so i didn't get sick while on vacation. sat across from a little boy who vomitted numerous times. the flight attendant remarked it was too bad he was so sentive to air travel. the mom pipes up...oh no..it's not that. he was sick all night at the hotel!. groans heard all around us....i was very smug in my itchy, funny looking mask.

  2. if you feel unsafe in the reg bath and safe in the hc i would think that is an easy choice...that step up is an issue for anyone with balance pr0blems on a moving ship...i know my husband was thrilled when i finally admitted it was time to go hc...HE feels safer...

  3. i posted this on the ncl board as it has SO much important info. i am planning this cuise and have mobility problems. the pics have been invaluable. i posted this at night and it was gone the next morning. guess there is etiquette here i didn't know about. or maybe just bad manners.....i just don't get all the juvenile pettiness between many cruisers....anyway...i think the review should be a sticky.....thanks so much:D

  4. i hope your dear lucy has made a full recovery. i had a beautiful choc lab in my life...when visiting her family i left my boat bag by the door...returning home hours later i found an empty pound bag of hershey kisses...every single one plus foil wrapper was gone!! i quickly called them to see how she was...just another day for coco....not a moment's problem!! so much for choc being poisonous for dogs!!

  5. a lot of this is news to me and i spent a week in a suite on the gem in june. wish the butler had given us a lot more info about what she did and could do. our bump to a suite left me little time to research. we had a 60 sec intro to the suite and she left. our cabin steward,on the other hand, would have tucked me in at night if i'd let him!! he got the bulk of my tip money along with the concierge who was helpful with a wheelchair a couple of days...

  6. i am with you on the wheelchair. i have awful RA and every day is different. on a ship it's my balance that is a safety factor. you don't want to fall and make things worse!! griffin-if you don't get a suite you can still have breakfast delivered. if you are traveling with a companion they can bring you whatever you need. my husband brought me bfast in bed every day. you can ask for wheelchair service if you are having a bad day. we just did bermuda and just walking the length of the ship was daunting much less going out and about to shop, etc at the dockyard. i tell my husband he's lucky i no longer enjoy shopping! don't be afraid to ask for help on your cruise get the most out of it you can! didn't that passport make you feel like a REAL adult!!

  7. i took an upsell from an hc balcony to an hc suite aft-9672 on the gem last week. i was very happy with the aft becuase all the meals were a short walk to the elevator and then i could progress to the pool. of course,i had to use the KIDS pool becuase there were no steps in to the adult pool.( i just don't get that but that's a rant for another day and not just ncl.) the aft cabin was AWESOME!!! so spacious, the bed wonderful, bathroom huge with grab bars everywhere and NO step!! that step has ruined a couple of cruises for me. i never did have the urge to go to the other end of the ship as "the green mile" of cabins was daunting. might be time to rent a wheelchair next time. our concierge did help us off the ship with one several times and that was a blessing. we had a desk area and a vanity area as well as a couch, chairs and a small coffee table. the deck was great-2 chairs, small table and a comfortable chaise. was able to book the original cabin only a month in advance. they did call me the day before to see if i was able-bodied and willing to give up the cabin. hated to say no....but had to. i have a relative who boasts about getting hc cabins w/o needing them. a pox on him!

  8. i belong to a virgin islands message board where i have seen many posts regarding credit cards not being accepted when a quick call beforehand could have avoided the confusion and, sometimes, disappointment. i've started doing that for 2 cards when i travel out of the country and both companies mention they wish more customers knew to do this. can't hurt! i also remember a post here where a cruiser used her debit card and couldn't get the funds released until some time after she returned home causing her many problems with her bills. the concensus was to not use a debit card for cruising.
