  1. Like  others have said - LAYER.  Also bring sunglasses for while you are in Glacier Bay.   I have been to Alaska when it was in the high 70's and another time it was 60's and rainy.

Enjoy - the scenery is so beautiful!

  2. A couple of years ago we were on the Liberty OTS for my birthday.  Nobody said anything to the wait staff in the MDR; but when it came time for dessert they brought out a piece of chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and they sang Happy Birthday to me.

  3. for my upcoming cruise on the Caribbean Princess - I had booked an obstructed view.  Had a couple of upsale offers to a balcony; but turned them down.  Then was offered an upsale to a mini - but turned that down also.  And then right after final payments was do I got a FREE offer to a mini - that I did take.  Then a couple weeks later I got another FREE offer to another mini and I took that one - liked the location better.

  4. Royal Caribbean's "Sun Viking" - it was in the late 70's early 80's.  There were 750 pax

I can remember walking laps on deck and you got a Royal Dollar for every lap, and you could 'buy' Royal Caribbean merchandise (fanny pack, t-shirt, pens) with the Royal Dollars you collected.   By the end of the cruise it seemed like EVERYONE was wearing one of those yellow t-shirts

  5. WOW this thread sure brought back a lot of memories.   I do remember the horse races and friends/family coming on board to see you off, and standing by the railings waving and the streamers.

I also remember my first cruise on Royal Caribbean; it was on the Sun Viking and in the after noon the would be big group of people and you would walk on the upper deck.   For every lap you completed you were given a Royal Buck and you could buy Royal Caribbean stuff with it (it was like Monopoly money)…….you knew that IF someone was wearing a YELLOW ROYAL CARIBBEAN t-shirt they had walked so many laps.   And they had walked ALOT of laps if they had a Royal Fanny Pack.

And you use to be able to visit the bridge without having to pay for a behind the scenes tour

  7. This didn't happen to me; but I heard it on an elevator on a Royal Caribbean Ship.

These 2 elderly ladies (about 70 I would guess) get on the elevator and one says to the other "I really thought this was the SUNDAY elevator" and the other ones goes "I did too - because the SUNDAY elevator took us right to where we wanted to go. Now we will probably be late for dinner because we are on the MONDAY elevator."

It was all I could do to not bust out laughing.

For those that are not aware on Royal Caribbean ships they have the day of the week on the floor (on panels) and are changed daily after mid-night
