  1. RIP Dynamic Dining. It was a bad idea from the start., that's why it was never extended to Oasis or Allure during the dry dock modification. It's too bad Oasis still stuck with the awful decorating they did for DD.

They should have never even tried to put it on Oasis. Just left it on one class ship that was made for it.

  2. Nothing except:

    RipCord

    NorthStar

    270

    Sportsplex

    The Music Hall

    Jamie's Italian

    Michael's Pub

    Wonderland

The Quantum class ships still have much to offer that isn't available on other ships.

There's restaurants on all their ships and actually, my worse meal was in Jaimie's. I bet they'll be adding Wonderland to other ships as well. Music hall is nice but all their ships have a room where bands play. They just have different names. North Star - if you do it once, you don't have to do it again. It's not s big deal. Two 70 is a nice room so I'll give them that. All the other stuff doesn't hold any appeal to me. Honestly, my favorite class ship is Radiance Class, but others might like all the gimmick things on this one.

  3. No...you will have the "choice" of those two for the 12 nights of your cruise. You won't be assigned a dinning room with MyTime. [Yes, I have heard Chic and The Grande are nicer]

Not sure about that. Our friend will be calling Royal tonight because evidently they changed some show times as well and we're already booked for them.

  4. I spent about 70 nights on Quantum and Anthem. I waited on line once for Grande out of all those nights. I pre-booked all my reservations and never had a problem. I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

Most people didn't have to wait in line. We made all reservations as well and never waited in long lines. People find anything to complain about and unfortunately, Royal listened to the Whiners who shouldn't have even been sailing on a DD ship if they wanted traditional dining. All they had to do was make reservations for 6 or 8:30, but then they cried because they didn't have the same waiter and the waiter didn't know what they drank every night. What babies!!!!Don't get me wrong, we don't mind traditional but that's why there are different ships with different experiences. Now Royal has nothing innovative, new or exciting in their Quantum Class. Same old menus as all their ships plus I won't be happy getting stuck in Silk for 12 nights. Personally, I think what they are doing is a step down from their other ships. We always do MTD on other ships, but at least we're in the same nice dining room as everyone else.

  5. I think you are right. When they announced the classic option it was the first sign that Royal were wimping out of their original plan. They listened to very early criticism too much and tried to please everyone, diluting the idea. They should have stuck to their guns and if people preferred set dining times so much then there was the rest of the fleet to choose from.

We were considering another Anthem cruise, not now. If we are stuck with the fleet wide menus then I'd prefer to eat them in a big MDR and definitely not sat in the 'womb' aka the Silk restaurant with its inappropriate decor.

Totally agree! We're stuck on this one because we're pass final payment date but won't be booking this class in the future. We don't use Sea Plex, we don't do IFLY and we don't use Flow Rider so DD was the 1 thing we liked about the ship. I'd rather spend my money on other ships. Other ships even have nicer and larger pool areas.

  6. I give Royal a lot of credit for listening to their customers. No format is going to please everyone, and I'll admit that I'm biased in thinking Royal has made a good move here because we hated DD when we were on Anthem in February. But really, the feedback has been generally negative, and I think a lot of Royal for listening to it rather than stubbornly sticking with the concept that they had clearly invested time and money promoting.

It might seem that there's more negative feedback, but that's because they are the loudest and most vocal. People who are happy don't usually give feedback at all! We loved DD and now that they are doing away with it we won't be booking Quantum class ever again. I d much rather be on a ship with a large beautiful MDR instead of eating in 1 small dining room for 12 nights. We always do MTD on their other ships. Only booked Anthem because we enjoyed DD on Quantum.

DD worked great for us on Quantum. Yes, we made reservations just like we do for MTD and we never had a problem and never had long waits to get into dinner. So because people complained instead of booking ships with traditional dining, those of us that loved DD lose out. This ship was built for DD concept - I say it's to bad they are backing down because they are still going to get negative feedback and have already been getting it on another Social Media site where RCI has a page.

  7. I understand your frustration with the change but you "value the company" yet you're disappointed with the entertainment, sick of the menus, don't want to be trapped in the same venue for 10 nights, etc. Really seems like you would do better to jump ship and try something new.

The menus that have been posted here do have some of the items that were on Anthem this past week when we sailed. They do also have some of the same items we have seen for years on the other ships we have sailed. We are glad we got to try Dynamic Dining but we weren't overly impressed with what we saw. Silk was not great, worst service we have had in a long time and food was ok. We also went to Grande, American Icon and Chic. None of them really blew us away. Yes, they had some different things but not as many differences as I had seen on the menus posted from earlier in the year.

We really enjoyed Jamie's and went back for lunch our last day because it was so good.

Don't set yourself up for a frustrating vacation, if there is that much that you think you will not like, cut your losses now. Breakaway seems like a great ship to try too.

Everyone's opinion of food is different. It's very subjective. For instance, we loved all the food in the 4 restaurants. Jamies my least favorite but I may give them another try.

  8. If it wasn't for the ports it would be an easy decision. As someone who values the company I am disappointed that Royal is changing the experience for people who already gave final payment. What's the rush, why not wait until sometime in 2017 when people can properly adjust their cruise with adequate time or book the new experience?

After going back and forth we were finally set on and looking forward to Dynamic Dining and the Anthem and the new experience within a company we love.

Same with us. This was announced day after our final payment date. They definitely aren't going to be delivering the product we paid for.

  9. We are frequent and long time Royal cruisers. The past menus were so predictable we could decide which menu would be on what day in the MDR. Last May we cruised Anthem, and were really impressed with the additional menu offerings with Dynamic Dining. We even hoped Royal might even adopt some of the ideas and menus in the MDRs of other ships. Most people ask us about the food after a cruise. Now we will have to say same as usual.

Totally agree! Food we had on Quantum was the best we had on any Royal ship. Been sailing with Royal since 2001.

  10. I don't like it at all :(

We have DD (still on cruise planner) and we planned to reserve most our meals in Grande (don't mind dressing up for dinner).

Now it seems we are out of luck just because we'll have My Time Dining.

What bothers me the most that RCL was selling us one product when we booked and them changed it before the cruise.

This is really bad marketing no matter what's the reason behind it. They already SOLD us the product, took our money and then changed it.

Which cruise are you on? Our final payment for ours was last week and this was announced day after our final payment was due. If they make changes my thoughts are they shouldn't be after final payment when people can't cancel. Our cruise is 11/27 which is the effective date of the change.

  11. Thanks. I guess I'm having a dumb day... So, what's the difference?

The difference is that with dynamic dining, you had a choice of reserving 4 different restaurants each night with each restaurant having an unique menu of its own. With the new way of dining, you will be assigned to just one restaurant for the duration of your cruise and all restaurant menus will be the same across all 4. There will no longer be unique menus for each restaurant. There is no MDR on this ship-instead there are 4 smaller restaurants. For example, if you ate at Silk, menu was geared toward Asian food. That will no longer happen. Very disappointed because we really enjoyed eating at different places each night and seeing the decor of each.

  12. I get where you're coming from, but they did indeed try to hype up DD when it was supposed to come to Oasis Class. And as a matter of fact, when I booked my Oasis Cruise, I was supposed to have DD and it was plastered all over the webpage for Oasis. They pulled that right out from under us, which at the time was a good thing IMO.

FWIW, I'm on the same side of this fight as you are. I think they should've stuck it out. Maybe eliminate Classic, maybe revamp the computer systems, I don't know. I'm just saying that the new set up on Anthem is not going to be that different from the current set up on Oasis/Allure/Harmony (except for the capacity issue, but I'm more speaking of decor). I understand that it will be a series of 4 smaller rooms, but I guess I can live with that.

I know we're on the same side......LOL We really enjoyed eating at the different restaurants when we were on Quantum. It made dinners interesting, especially when your on the ship for 12 nights. We had absolutely no issues eating with our friends every night, we made all reservations ahead of time and linked all of us together and we had no issue changing a restaurant or 2 or time of dinner once on board. We simply told them the night before we wanted to change a time for the following night and it all was pretty simple. We never even had a long wait to get into the restaurant - I'd say we never waited more than 5 minutes if that.

Sure......there were big issues with DD on Quantum and way to many complaints in the beginning. My feeling is it was due to their crappy reservation site and them not having enough staff or enough trained staff in the restaurants. They did give them additional staff/assistance by the time we cruised on Quantum, things were running pretty smoothly. We had no issues at all with DD and after reading all the negative posts, we were pleasantly surprised.

I read a post from someone who was talking so negative about Anthem and she posted "Thank God, they are getting rid of DD". Someone else asked her if she was on Quantum or Anthem, or both. Her reply "NEITHER", but my friend was on Anthem. This is how negative posts keep growing. You have someone who wasn't even on the ship complaining about it.

    LOL

Guess I'm most upset because it's going to take effect on our cruise 11/27 and I hate to be negative, but I see nothing but chaos and confusion for guests on that cruise which will equal lots of "COMPLAINERS".

    Have a great Sunday!

  13. But there were several announcements that Oasis would have Dynamic Dining by Spring of 2015. It was cancelled in December 2014.

Not exactly the same. It wasn't something that was happening and then taken away. Ship wasn't built for DD. There was no hype about it. Quantum class was unique and designed for DD. Royal caved and I'm very disappointed in them.

  14. Yes, I'm serious. We found the food quite good, but the menus at all four already have the same "classic" left side each night, and the right side isn't all that distinct. At least it's not at Chic, The Grande, and American Icon. We didn't eat at Silk. I chose a chicken dish one night over prime rib at one of them, I can't even remember which. Two nights later, prime rib was on the menu at one of the others. Plus, if you don't want anything from the right side that night, you can ask for something from across the hall.

After 9 nights onboard the Anthem, other than lobster tails at The Grande, I cannot name one dish unique to the 3 main venues where we dined, and that was twice at each. Don't get me wrong. As I said above, we enjoyed the food, including Solarium Bistro, the Wind Jammer, James Italian, and even dare I say, Sorrento's.

So no, I do not see this as a major change. But I do see it as an attempt to ameliorate the negativity that has surrounded Dynamic Dining, and placate the whiners.

Believe me, them dropping the ball on this will create more negativity.

  15. The section of Silk that I was in was most definitely Asian themed. Buddhas and elephants sat on shelfs behind my head. So, I'd say its pretty close to being the same.

What I meant was they are the same rooms we always ate at and the ship wasn't built for DD. That's the reason they decided not to do it on Oasis. You either ate on deck 3,4,or 5 so nothing really changed much because your still eating on those same decks and same rooms. Quantum class restaurants are much smaller. Quantum class was advertised as a different style of dining. There was so much hype about it in their marketing.

Oasis class was never advertised as DD.

  16. I was assigned to the Silk dining room on the Allure in February. It was weird, but we got used to it.

The prior May, on Oasis, I was assigned to the Grande. Dining there was nicer because that venue's decor is similar to a MDR.

I guess we'll all just have to get used to it. Maybe in a little less that 4 years time, they'll redecorate the 4 venues during Anthem's first dry dock.;)

On Oasis, it's not the same. The dining rooms are still where they were. There were 3 levels and they just basically renamed them.
